Extra Trivia - Episode 1 Boo Arc Clips

As part of covering the dub trivia for Episode 1, KBABZ decided to go the extra mile and compare every conceivable version of all the Boo Arc dialogue viewed by Gomah and Degesu. This includes... inhales deeply the ViZ manga translation, the Dragon Ball Z subtitles, Funimation's Dragon Ball Z Dub, Ocean's Dragon Ball Z dub, the Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters subtitles, Funimation's Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters dub, Dragon Ball Daima's subtitles, Funimation's Dragon Ball Daima dub, and a partridge in a pear tree.

As part of this, KBABZ put together an imgur gallery of all 82 Boo Arc shots that Daima focuses on!

Spoiler:

• The "Boo Arc Recap" directly takes shots scenes from across the Boo Arc, both focused and in the background. The following is a list of where the scenes and shots that Daima focuses on come from:
  • Dragon Ball Manga Chapters - 446, 447, 456, 458, 460, 463, 466, 467, 468, 469, 475, 476, 487, 494, 495, 497, 514, 516.
  • Dragon Ball Z Episodes - 220, 228, 230, 231, 232, 234, 235, 237, 238, 240, 243, 244, 246, 247, 256, 261, 262, 263, 284, 285, 286.
  • Dragon Ball Z Kai Int. Episodes - 114, 115, 120, 121, 122, 123, 125, 130, 134, 135, 142, 147, 148, 149, 162, 163, 164.
    • To match the slightly shorter Japanese Kai episode numbering, subtract 7. This is because the Japanese edit of TFC cut and merged a few Great Saiyaman episodes in order to hit a broadcast episode count (episodes 101 and the later episode 165 were actually cut entirely, being all-filler episodes ported over wholesale from Z).
• The shots seen in the background of the Boo Arc Recap are very carefully selected to never prematurely spoil scenes from the Boo Arc that haven't been shown yet: they aways show scenes either at or before the point in time that Gomah and Degesu are currently viewing.
• In the Daima recap, the door to Babidi's ship opens to allow him and Dabura to exit. In the manga and classic anime, the door is already open due to the return of Spopovich and Yamu. They and their henchmen are completely absent in the Daima version of the scene.
• Dabura also floats in the doorway to the ship, where in the manga and classic anime, he stands on the ground.
• In the Daima version of the Dabura observation scene, Goku name-drops Dabura directly. In all other versions (manga included) Goku doesn't do this, since he had already said Dabura's name a few seconds earlier.
• Kaioshin's line "It does" / "Exactly", said after Krillin's terrified reaction, is exclusive to the Daima version of this scene. In all other versions, Krillin's line is instead followed by Gohan asking if the smaller figure is Babidi.
• Daima's depiction of Vegeta firing the ki blast at Goku and the Tournament stands is more accurate to the manga: it's fired at a distance and then instantly breaks through Goku's block. In the classic anime, Vegeta does it at point-blank range, points at Goku first before raising his palm, and Goku struggles against and is pushed back by the beam for a long period of time before being forced out of the way.
• On of Daima's recap shots shows Goku punching Vegeta, which he catches. In the manga and classic anime, the roles are reversed.
• The shots of Majin Vegeta flying and firing a ki shot at Goku, who teleports away, has no equivalent scene in the manga or classic anime. It's most similar to a Z exchange at around 5:43 in Episode 231; the major difference is that Vegeta is on the ground, Goku jumps instead of teleports, and the combatants are facing opposite directions. Vegeta's shot seems inspired by his ki shot at 16:29 in the same episode, but is again facing the opposite direction.
• In the Daima shot of the steaming Boo Ball, Gohan and Kaioshin are standing on the opposite side from Babidi and Dabura. In the manga and classic anime, Gohan and Kaioshin are standing behind the other two. That said, this specific shot has no equivalent in the manga or classic anime.
• The panning shot of shocked Kaioshin and Gohan is taken from the manga, however there only Gohan was visible, with Kaioshin's reaction taken from the previous page.
• The shot of Boo, fully formed out of his shell, rapidly rolls around in Z. Daima doesn't do this, feeling a bit closer in spirit to the manga.
• In the manga and classic anime, when Piccolo appears behind Babidi he announces his presence vocally. In Daima, his teleportation is instead enough to make Babidi turn around.
• The summoning of Shen Long at Capsule Corp. is not actually depicted in the manga. In the classic anime, it's actually Bulma who says the password to summon Shen Long. Daima ignores this and instead has Yamcha say it, in the process recycling a manga panel shot from later in the scene.
• In Daima, Boo's line before he obliterates Babidi's head is adjusted slightly to work a bit better out of context.
• In Dragon Ball Z, Boo's punch on Babidi's head is depicted as a splat of blood in Episode 246, but in 247 it's purple blood and pink energy. The Final Chapters combines both and uses a "splat" of purple energy from Boo's fist in Episode 134, which is what Daima goes with. View all four versions here.
• Daima is the first time Boo blowing up Babidi has used a manga-accurate camera angle, with Boo throwing the body away from the viewer. In the classic anime, Boo throws the body at the camera, blowing it up right in front of the viewer; the angle is only shown after Boo has already hit him.
• The shot of Boo bounding through the mountain rocks in jubilation has no equivalent in either the manga or classic anime. The closest is when Trunks kicks him through two rock formations as he and Goten save Majin Vegeta.
• The shot of the Dragon Team reacting in terror is from when Super Boo shouts "GIMME!!!" after first arriving at the Lookout. However in Dragon Ball Z, this shot is used after Super Boo calms down explains what he wants. As a result, Daima is the first time the manga panel has been shown "properly".
  • Interestingly, in The Final Chapters this shot is moved to a slightly earlier spot, when Super Boo spikes his ki and blasts the Lookout with wind. However because it's still re-used footage from Z, the poses and expressions of the characters are still inaccurate.
• The shot of Super Boo cracking his neck at the Lookout's entrance is invented for Daima, as he never does this at that exact spot in either the manga or classic anime. In the classic anime he does crack his neck a lot when first arriving at the Lookout, which likely inspired this specific shot.
• Gotenks' shots in the recap are out of order. His charging headbutt on Super Boo should be first, followed by Boo throwing him into the lookout, and then the Die Die Missile Barrage. They were likely re-arranged for continuity now that these shots are shown out of context.
• The "whip-up" shot of Gohan was not fully adapted in the anime, as it instead kept the shot to shoulders-up. This means that, once again, Daima is the first time the panel has been fully drawn in animation.
• It's a similar situation with Gohan's back-handed punch on Super Boo: in the classic anime, the attack is split across two shots, and is initially behind Boo rather than Gohan. Daima recreates the original manga panel's angle (as you may have guessed by this point).
  • As Daima prefers to adapt manga panels over anime shots, Super Boo's hands are mitten-like in Daima. In the classic anime, Super Boo had proper fingers right away, while the anime saved them for when he absorbs members of the Dragon Team.
• The shot of Gohan kicking Super Boo into the air was never in the classic anime, which instead had Gohan hurling Super Boo out of a battle-made cave. You guessed it, Daima chose to adapt the manga version!
• The first shot of Goku holding the Genki-Dama above him is doctored for Daima: in the manga and anime, this shot is actually used for when Goku prepares to form the Genki-Dama, and thus there isn't any ki around him at all.
• In recreating the famous shot of the donated ki departing Earth for the Genki-Dama, Earth is drawn in more specific detail compared to the shot in the classic anime. In Daima's style, the continents match the map from Daizenshuu 4, rather than using the continents as seen in the manga.
• The Daima shot of Pure Boo catching and then being forced back by the Genki-Dama skips over a big piece of the story; in the manga and classic anime, Boo isn't forced back until Porunga restores Goku's ki and he can turn Super Saiyan again.
• Similarly, the shot of Goku bidding Boo farewell before the last push combines two different panels / shots from the source material. Because of this, Goku holds his salute, whereas in the manga and classic anime he does not.
  • In the manga version of the aftermath shot, Goku is visibly still holding his salute, which Daima adheres to. In the Z version Goku isn't doing this, instead assuming Goku dropped his salute after Goku bids Boo farewell.

Extra Trivia - Episode 1

And naturally, KBABZ noticed even more additional trivia for Episode 1...

Spoiler:

• In the opening shots of Episode 1 at Gomah's Palace, only the first Akira Toriyama credit is given a translation via the subtitles. All the rest remain untranslated, even when watching the dub.
• Pointedly, the recap of the Boo Arc undergone by Gomah and Degesu begins when the Dragon Team approach Babidi's spaceship, skipping the Great Saiyaman and 25th Tournament portions.
• Degesu makes a special note that Goku and Vegeta can fly, despite practically every new character since the Saiyan Arc being able to do it. This speaks to Gomah and Degesu's unfamiliarity with the outside world.
• Interestingly, Degesu never refers to Gomah directly by name until after they realize King Dabura has been killed. Degesu refers to him as Lord Gomah... for now.
• Given what we know about the departure of the Namekians from the Demon Realm, Gomah's rather bored reaction to Piccolo seems to contradict his revelatory reaction to Dende later.
• When the sky goes dark in the Boo recap, Gomah reacts with "Could it be...?". This implies the sky also goes dark when the Demon Realm's Dragon Balls are used.
• Gomah says the Earth Dragon Balls seem to be easy to gather, implying that he doesn't think they're guarded by Tamagami like the Demon Realm's Dragon Balls are. This is of course totally accurate!
• In Toei's provided subtitles, there's a grammatical error where Degesu says "Buu kill his own master Babidi!". It should say "Boo killed his own master Babidi!".
• Gomah expresses shock that Earth is populated by beings as powerful as the Dragon Team, which happens to be the same take that Babidi had when they first showed up on his doorstep.
• It isn't until Pure Boo is defeated that Degesu finally refers to Gomah as King Gomah to reflect his confirmed title. Even the Funimation dub adheres to this!
  • Interestingly, this has the strong implication that Boo would have had a legitimate claim to the throne were he to kill Gomah (terrible as his reign would be). Gomah and Degesu's concerns around Boo foreshadow Marba's later reveal that Boo had previously gone on a rampage in the Demon Realm.
• Dr. Arinsu has a smile on her face when entering the throne room. As we now know she was in fact present on Earth to recover a sample of Fat Boo, meaning there's a fair chance she already knew everything Gomah had just watched. Regardless, she waits until after he's officially confirmed and crowned as King before she enters and plants the seeds of paranoia in his mind, kicking off her schemes.
• Interestingly, Arinsu does not plant the seed of doubt in Gomah's mind about the Dragon Team visiting the Demon Realm until after Gomah suggests he may slash Arinsu's research funding. If our hunch is correct, it implies that Arinsu's scheme, and thus the entire plot of Daima, is the result of Gomah performing a budget cut!
• Degesu is a very competent advisor to Gomah, as he correctly points out Arinsu's self-serving words and that the Dragon Team have zero reason to visit the Demon Realm. Of course, Gomah ignores him.
• The shot of Degesu reacting to Gomah asking if the Demon Realm will be okay, and the shot of Degesu reacting to Gomah's suggestion of using the Earth's Dragon Balls, both use the same animation for Degesu leaning forward towards Gomah.
• When Episode 1 first debuted, it wasn't really apparent whether Gomah's use of the word "Majin" referred to a specific people or not. By now of course we know that this refers to all of his Demon Realm citizens. This makes sense given it's a Japanese compound word made up of "Ma" for demon and "Jin" for person.
• The close-up of Sir Warp's eye as he slowly spins in place is close enough to see the polygon edges of his eye socket.
• Gomah has trouble politely asking the "mini Warp" for more information, much as Vegeta will to Hybis at the end of Episode 9.
• At Trunks' birthday party, Piccolo is once again drinking water since that's all a Namekian needs for sustenance. However he is not drinking alcohol like many of the adults do (it can't be because wine is fruit-based, as his water jug has fruit floating in it). It could be Pimm's, we suppose.
  • Wait a minute, is it normal to serve alcohol at a nine year-old's birthday party?!?
• Krillin's shirt has the word "KAME" printed on it.
• Interestingly, both Kaioshin and Kibito have their own set of Potara Earrings, despite only using one pair to fuse. It's unknown how they each came to have a unique pair again.
• Bee, Satan and Boo's beloved dog, is still a puppy during Trunks' birthday party. Bee appears to be a Labrador, who grow to full size in a year. This may imply that Daima takes place relatively soon after the conclusion of the Boo Arc, as any significant length of time would mean Bee would look like an adolescent or older.
• There's something to be said that Kaioshin (via Kibitoshin), who originally came to Earth to stop the resurrection of Majin Boo, felt comfortable enough to approach Good Boo to try the defusion method. This no grudges, good-natured approach is reflected in his behaviour across Daima, where he frees Panzy of her collar despite have zero reason to do so.
• It takes Kaioshin a good while before he notices that Gohan isn't at the party. This is rather amusing considering he spent a very long time in the Boo Arc with a vested interest in Gohan to solve the Boo problem he originally visited Earth for.
• After a prologue, Goku and Vegeta engage in an aerial sparring match while the show's main theme plays triumphantly. This is very similar to the opening of Super's Broly movie, which used Head Cha La as the theme.
• Goku fires the Kamehameha without charging or calling out the attack's name. It would take until Episode 8 for him to call out the name, whilst fighting Tamagami Number Three.
• Mr. Popo uses a handheld telescope to see Goku and Vegeta's fight from Kami's Lookout. In previous instances, Kami, Piccolo and even Super Boo were able to see around the globe just through the Lookout's mystic seeing properties.
• Neva notably dips his head the entire time Shen Long is present, showing respect even though Shen Long isn't a dragon from Neva's set of Dragon Balls.

Extra Trivia - Episode 12 Errata

• Episode 12 - As pointed out by nineko, Vegeta is the character who went underwater the most in the Namek Arc, having done five times! These include at the end of his first fight with Zarbon, to sneak away from Freeza's ship after stealing his Dragon Balls, recovering his original Dragon Ball near the slaughtered village, during the fight with Recoome, and finally the fight against Freeza!
• Episode 12 - MisteryOne also points out that Vegeta trains underwater in the Granolah Arc of the Dragon Ball Super manga, and later fights Granola himself underwater for a moment or two. While Daima doesn't appear to be part of the Super continuity, it does at least align with Vegeta's relative inexperience fighting underwater at this point in the overall timeline.

Episode 457 - Surprise (Daima episode 13)

As Goku and his companions head to where Gomah is, engine trouble causes them to land on a certain planet. The place they land happens to be a surprise-filled planet where even Supreme Demon Kings are afraid to tread!

Spoiler:

• As it turns out, Daima DID in fact take a break over New Year's. Oops!
• Despite being given an answer of "Most of them" (mostly), Gomah is perfectly willing to strand some of his forces in the other two Demon Worlds by disabling Sir Warp.
• One of the panels Gomah has pulled up shows a chasm of floating rocks above the Sea of Darkness, like the ones seen in Episodes 2 and 4.
• The instance of Sir Warp that we see shut down is the one in the First Demon Realm. This is the very first Sir Warp instance we saw in Daima, back when Gomah and co. departed for Earth in Episode 1.
• Episode 13 is now the seventh instance of a plane mishap, including being stolen (Ep3), engine failure (Ep 6), loss of power (Ep7), shot at (Ep 7), stolen again (Ep9), eaten by a kraken (Ep10) and engine failure again (Ep13). Plane mishaps have thus far occurred once every two episodes on average, with engine failure and theft being tied as the most common causes.
• Thus far, every single plane used by the Dragon Team has had a mishap or malfunction of some kind.
• The engine failure that occurs at the end of Episode 12 is foreshadowed by some smoke coming off it that was visible at the end of Episode 11.
• It never occurs to anyone that most of the plane's occupants could fly out and help guide and/or land the plane.
• After taking a long break since Episodes 1 and 2, the abject GT similarities return once again, where the main group arrives by ship/plane onto a giant-sized world and, after exploring for a bit, have a confrontation with a giant humanoid before departing. Daima's major difference is that the confrontation takes focus over the exploring, there's no Dragon Ball involved, but they are nonetheless put in genuine danger.
• When Goku is flung up into the air, some tall square buildings can be seen in the distance. These are never seen again or even referenced, so it's unknown if they're Megath buildings or not.
• The burst of smoke of the Hoi-Poi capsule lacks the giant BOMB text, in keeping with its later depictions.
• It takes Neva 1 minute and 53 seconds to notice that they've crashed on the Planet of Mega.
• As noted by Kanzenshuu, the original Japanese uses the word 星 (hoshi) for the "Planet of Mega". Hoshi can refer to both a star or a heavenly body such as, well, a planet!
• In Toei's subtitles, Goku says that "if things get hairy, we'll handle it", having little idea how literal things he'll get the hair of the dog!
• Panzy asks Hybis to be a stepping stool, despite the black Capsule Corp. tool box being an available option.
• Curiously, it isn't confirmed that Arinsu actually tells Glorio that Gomah had disabled Sir Warp (although Glorio's responses could be taken to him being careful in light of such news).
• While not being in personal possession of them, Arinsu may be the first person to have control over all three Dragon Balls since Neva created the Tamagami!
• The screwdriver that Panzy uses to remove the screw appears to have a magnetic tip, as the screw sticks to it even when the driver's head holds it in mid-air.
• While it's impossible to know how intentional this is without asking one of the writers, calling it "Majilite" is rather appropriate considering it literally provides light for the Second Demon World!
• The sky of Majilite providing perpetual light for the Second Demon World is a clever nod to the original Planet Namek. There, Krillin learns via Dende that night-time doesn't exist thanks to its three suns. This may have been a big factor in the Namekians deciding to settle down on that planet specifically.
• The arrangement of the Demon Worlds is the reverse of the order seen on the poster. In Panzy's exposition, the Third World is on top, Second World in the middle, and First World at the bottom. On the poster for Daima, the First World is at the top, and the Third World at the bottom.
• Panzy notes that Majilite can provide energy for 30 years. This goes a long way to explaining why Kaioshin's plane failed despite all of Bulma's hard work, given that it was abandoned thousands (possible millions) of years prior.
  • The Namekians meanwhile would not have had access to Majilite when making their ships on planet Namek, explaining why Bulma was successful in repairing the ship used by the Nameless Namekian after the Saiyan Arc.
• Panzy's exposition is the first explanation of the actual physical layout of the Demon World, with each one layered on top of each other like a cake. This is evocative of the Nine Circles of Hell from Dante's Inferno, which is appropriate for the Demon Realm (which has often been confused with Dragon Ball's Hell, which exists in Other World).
  • Meanwhile, the Dragon Ball manga's Hell is closer in function to the seven levels of Purgatory from Dante's Purgatorio, to purge the sins of a dead soul. The main difference is that Dante has the immortal souls in Purgatory work through the seven levels to purge their sins and make them worthy of ascending to the Heavens. The Dragon Ball manga has them reincarnated after purging... but the anime and Resurrection F have their own ideas.
• Panzy also notes that water composition affects the colour of a Majilite sky, explaining why the Second Demon World has a green sky specifically.
• Bulma reacts awkwardly to Panzy saying her father can easily steal some Majilite for her. This is rather amusing when you consider that Bulma was just as likely to engage in this sort of behaviour when she was first introduced!
• Rather appropriately, one of the hamster voice actors is Yūsuke Numata, who most famously played Baby in GT.
• On the prospect of defeating (ie beating up) the giant hamster, Goku says "that's too cruel!", and notably does not hurt any of the hamsters like Vegeta and Piccolo do. By contrast, in the very first episode of Dragon Ball Goku didn't hesitate to defeat (possibly even kill) the pterodactyl that kidnapped Bulma, but as Goku noted in most English dubs of that episode, he "gave [him] no choice".
• Episode 12 is only the second time Glorio is seen actually firing his pistol, the first being way back in Episode 3.
• Despite the contents of his bag falling out, the Megath child isn't seen putting them back before he gets up again later in the episode.
• Much like with the hamsters, Goku makes no attempt to hurt the giant dog, once again leaving it to Vegeta to do that instead. He has no qualms with punching the dog's ticks, however!
• Glorio's smile after Vegeta punches the dog may be because this is the first time any of the group has abjectly saved him.
• Goku once again mis-pronounces Glorio's name, but in a world-first, Glorio doesn't attempt to correct him!
• Goku states that he won't be able to make it in time to save his friends from the giant dog, despite having the ability to teleport to where his friend's ki signatures are.
• Episode 12 is only the third time Goku has used the Kamehameha in Daima. For reference, the planes have crashed more often than he's used the technique.
• The two rear panels of Hybis' plane are raised while Bulma and Panzy , making it look even more like a bug than it usually does. Especially now that it's to scale on the Planet of Megaths!
• On his way back to the ship with Neva, Hybis says he thought he was going to turn into a fossil. Gomah describes Neva with this exact word in Funi's dub of Episode 1!
• Whilst stuck in the Megath child's tunic / bag, Goku completely forgets to fly.
• Oddly, Vegeta is not shown transforming into a Super Saiyan; he just attacks the Megath child having already assumed the form.
• Episode 12 shows Goku doing his second ever move with Nyoi-bo whilst Super Saiyan, this time to block the Megath child's ruler.
• In an easily missed detail, in the wide shot after the Megath child stomps his foot, the giant dog is being bothered by Vegeta and Piccolo buzzing around its head.
• The existence of planet Mega and Giga implies the existence of planet Kilo, Tera and Peta.
• Episode 13 is the first episode Majin Coo and Majin Doo have not appeared since their introduction, despite them helping Arinsu obtain the Dragon Ball seen in her office in this episode.
• While the three Japanese VOs for the giant hamsters are credited, the VO for the giant dog is not.

Even More Trivia - Episode 1 (Dub)

Because KBABZ went extra-deep on the Episode 1 recap trivia this week, she and Robo compiled this table of every version of every line heard in the recap!

Spoiler:

• The dub for Episode 1, "Conspiracy", debuted on the 10th of January 2025. This is thirty-five years and nine days after the very first broadcasted English dub of a Dragon Ball anime, the Harmony Gold dub, which debuted on the 1st of January 1990.
• The dub also debuted eleven episodes behind the original Japanese release, which premiered two months beforehand.
• In the theatrical edit of Episodes 1-3, Episode 1's audio had the music and sound effects mixed oddly low. This appears to have been corrected for the individual episode upload – although it may just be a flaw with Funimation's surround mix that doesn't register on a stereo streaming copy.
• One of the major differences between Toei and Funimation's audio in Daima is that Funimation adds echoes, volume spikes, and more to their dialogue and Toei's sound effects, both for ambience and to increase the "epic-ness" of dramatic moments. This gives it a different "ear-feel" to Toei's clearer but less punched up audio mix.
  • Another contributor to this difference in "ear-feel" is that Funimation always does a 5.1 surround sound mix (which gets a basic mix-down for stereo broadcasts and streaming), whereas Toei only ever mixes their TV projects in stereo.
• In the opening recap, the narrator doesn't refer to Shen Long by the name Shenron. Instead, he refers to him as the "Eternal Dragon", a phrase originating from Funimation's dub of the Pilaf Arc before they started using "Shenron" and still used from time to time.
• The narrator also says that Shen Long grants wishes "so long as it is within his vast power". More pertinently, he uses the plural term "wishes", while Toei's subtitles only say "wish". Thus Funi's script changes reflect Shen Long's modern ruleset, while the original Japanese hews more to the original "one wish, whatever you want" ruleset from Dragon Ball's earliest tales (possibly to retain the internal three wishes reveal for Gomah and Degesu).
• While Toei's subtitles describe Goku as "the most powerful warrior", Funi's narrator says the more specific "Earth's greatest warrior". Toei goes for what is Goku's "known ranking", whilst Funi leaves the door open for more powerful figures.
• The Funi narrator also adds that Goku "[protects] our planet", despite the Dragon World's Earth being rather different from the real-world Earth in cultures, geography, technology and political structures. Fortunately, it's just a cartoon (and a damned good one!).
• Funimation's narrator says that Goku "travelled the world" in search of the Dragon Balls, describing the first and third Dragon Ball arcs. This change happens to explain to new audiences that the Dragon Balls are scattered around the planet, which dovetails with Neva having to gather them up at the end of this episode.
• Funi's narrator adds that Saiyans are a space-faring race. Y'know, in case you didn't catch that from the shot of Raditz's pod flying towards Earth.
• Funi's narrator adds that Goku "[defended his home] from the Saiyans", and that he was sent as an infant to "spearhead the Saiyan conquest". This extra detail doesn't actually spoil Goku's relation to Bardock or the reason why, in the modern canon, he sent his son to Earth. In fact it aligns with Raditz's understanding of the situation, as well as the original Bardock special!
• At the start of the Boo Arc recap, Funimation do not adjust Kaioshin's phrasing from "Demon World" to "Demon Realm". While this is accurate to their dub of The Final Chapters, as becomes apparent when watching Daima, "Demon Realm" is the term for the three collective "Demon Worlds", making his wording retroactively inaccurate, especially since we now know the Glind came from the Second Demon World.
• When Vegeta fires at Goku and the Tournament arena, in the Toei subtitles Goku says "You idiot...!" as in the manga and DNZ, while in Funi's dub he says "Vegeta!" like in their Kai dub.
• In the line where Degesu says Babidi wants to rule all worlds, in the Funi dub he starts with the additional "And with Boo at his side", more solidly tying the capability to Boo's power.
• Funimation's dialogue does "correct" one of the oddities in Toei's provided subtitles, by referring to Piccolo's race as "Namekians" rather than "Nameks".
• After counting up the Dragon Balls, in Funi's dialogue Degesu says "The Earth has a set of seven Dragon Balls?!". In Toei's subtitles he doesn't mention Earth by name until writing down that Shen Long grants three wishes.
• In Toei's subtitles, Yamcha says "Rise, Shen Long!", while in Funi's dialogue he says "Come forth, Shenron!", which is also used at the end of this episode when Degesu summons Shen Long himself. "Come forth, Shen Long!" is the most common phrase for this Boo Arc scene, as it's used in the DBZ subs, Kai Subs and Funi dub, and of course here in Daima.
• In Funimation's dialogue, Shen Long immediately states that he can grant "any three wishes", leaving his second line to be the ol' "speak so that I may return to my slumber" line.
• Funimation's dialogue keeps their tradition of giving Boo less advanced, more child-like language ability, where in the original Japanese he speaks perfectly normally.
• As would be expected, Funimation tends to add, for lack of a better phrase, more "radical-leaning" adverbs like "totally" to help pad out the length of their dialogue.
• In Toei's subtitles, Gotenks' Vegeta-like rapid-fire ki attack is called Death Missile Chain, while in the Funimation dub it's called the Die Die Missile Barrage, the same name used in the Budokai Tenkaichi games. This is in fact the first time Gotenks' attack has been verbally called out for this Boo Arc scene!
• When Goku throws the Genki-Dama at Boo, he simply shouts in Toei's dialogue. In Funimation's dub however, Goku shouts "Take thiiiiiiiiiis!!" (a vast improvement over the memetic "...SPIRIT BOMB!!" from the Funi and Ocean dubs) The DBZ subs and the Kai Sub and Dub use "Burn in hell!" / "I'll see you in hell!" / "I'm sending you to hell!", respectively.
• In Toei's Daima subtitles, Goku says "See you!" to Pure Boo before killing him. In Funi's dialogue however he says "Until then!", which works decidedly less when shown out of context.
• The first blatant instance of Funimation completely replacing a line of Daima dialogue occurs in Arinsu's first scene. When she enters, in Toei's subtitles she says "Excuse me. You're here, too, Degesu?", while in the Funi dub she says "Hello... little brother. Fancy meeting you here". She doesn't even excuse herself, the HORROR!
  • Robo note: As someone with siblings, I don't hate this as a rewrite to fit in the sibling reveal without the "Sister!" exclamation. Still a bit clunky though.
• Similarly, Arinsu says "Why thank you" to Gomah's compliment in the Toei subtitles, but "Kind of you to notice, sire" in Funi's dub. This gives her a slightly more disrespectful air in Funimation's script.
• Despite the above, she's the first character to refer to Gomah under his full new title as the Supreme Demon King, Funi dub included.
• Funimation's audio adds additional alliterative appeal at Arinsu, announcing "that kernel of curiosity compelled me". In Toei's subtitles, she states simply "It piqued my curiosity".
• In Toei's subtitles, Gomah says that Dabura's "been murdered", while in the Funi dub he says "he's a monster's dessert". This implies that cookies are considered a dessert food in Funi's Demon Realm.
• Funimation's dub appears to copy Toei's provided subtitles by referring to the "legendary third eye" as the "Tertian Oculus", despite this not actually being said in the Japanese audio itself. It's hard to say, but it's not unlikely this term originates from Funimation and the subtitles are aligning the terminology, as is current Toei policy. (See also: Frieza, Buu, Supreme Kai, etc. turning up in these subs, and on all home video since Broly.)
• Rather than using Toei's descriptor of "a little senile", in the Funimation dub Gomah refers to Neva as having "brain fog". This phrase didn't enter common vernacular until after COVID spread across the world and the effects of "Long COVID" became known.
• In Toei's audio, Degesu departs with a loyal "Understood, sire!". In Funimation's dub meanwhile, he responds with a more brooding "Yes... sire..."
• Rather than shouting in horror as in the Toei audio, in the Funi dub Gomah says "YEEEAAARS?!" after learning when Neva last took a shower.
• In Toei's subtitles, Neva says that the trip "sounds like a vacation", and Gomah replies that they'll "come right back!". In Funi's dub however, Neva instead says "Oh, you don't say?", leaving Gomah to tell Neva that "This isn't a vacation!" when he asks to go back for his toothbrush.
• To avoid an instance of RAS Syndrome (aka a recursive acronym), the Funi dub changes "PIN number" from Toei's subtitles to "PIN code".
  • RAS syndrome is itself an example of RAS syndrome, standing for "Redundant Acronym Syndrome syndrome". Robo's favourite deliberate example is PHP Hypertext Protocol.
• When the "mini Warp" reacts to going to "number 3", in the Funi dub he says "Another one for Number 3!" like he's barking orders to a restaurant cook, a rather different performance compared to Toei's audio.
• In Toei's dialogue, the second line of the party is "And congratulations to the Earth returning!". However in the Funi dub, the line is "And happy Return to Existence Day, Earth!". This suggests that Daima occurs one year after the conclusion of the Boo Arc, which is a HUGE contradiction to make because the Dragon Balls turn back from stone after a year.
  • The only possible explanation is that it takes a year to the exact second for the Dragon Balls to return to normal, and that the Dragon Balls scattering at the end of the Boo Arc occurred later in the day than when Trunks' birthday party is held.
  • However, later in this same episode Neva says that he and Gomah arrived "straight after someone made a wish". This phrasing implies that Trunks' birthday party happens soon after they used Shen Long to erase everyone's memories of Boo. And later, Bulma says that "it should be a while because [they] become usable again". Make up your mind, Funimation!
  • If Daima does take place exactly a year after the end of the Boo Arc, that also means that Trunks' birthday was also on the day that arc took place. Despite this, exactly nobody brings this up any point!
• In the Funi dub, Goku gives more detail on the Saiyan growth spurt, saying that it'll happen "overnight". It's unknown how literal Goku is being by saying this, but personally, Robo hopes we one day see a Saiyan growth spurt happen instantaneously on-screen.
• Also in the Funi dub, Vegeta is given the more extended line "Are you picking a fight [/i]on my son's birthday?[/i]". This communicates to new viewers that Trunks is the son of one of the major characters (although their dub of Episode 2 does not go out of its way to make a similar communication regarding his wife, Bulma).
• Funimation continues the use of their "Supreme Kai" localization, rather than the original "Kaioshin".
• Regarding Kibitoshin's defusion, Funimation's dub has Kaioshin say "Now that we're on better terms with Boo, we just asked him this time". This is a much kinder reading that also acknowledges that the current Good Boo is still considered part of the broader Boo lineage.
• In the Funi dub, Krillin says "I can't believe we had Shenron wipe evil Boo from everyone's memories so Good Boo could keep living on Earth!". While this deviates from Toei's subtitles, it's more accurate to the aftermath of the Boo Arc (the Toei subtitles, meanwhile, are poorly worded and seem to suggest the wish was to turn Boo from evil to good, which is definitely not what happened!).
• While it wouldn't be expected for Funimation to recast the older Dende, not doing so keeps his voice rather low-pitched, highlighting the oddity that Dende gets turned into a baby rather than to a first-grader.
• In the Funi dub, Dende has an additional line, saying "What?!" before he runs away from Gomah's plane.
• The Funi dub adheres to Toei's provided subtitles for when Neva says he hasn't seen another Namekian for "thousands of years". In the actual Japanese audio, Neva says "tens of thousands of years".
  • Star Wars fans will be familiar with discrepancies like this; in A New Hope Obi-Wan says the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic for "over a thousand generations", while in Attack of the Clones Palpatine says that the Republic has stood for "a thousand years".
  • This commonality of a translation error suggests that Funimation is using Toei's in-house translations as the basis for their dub scripts – in the past, going as far back as the original dub of the Cell arc, they would have Steve Simmons translate for them, and that same translation would be the basis of the familiar subtitles. This doesn't bode well for future translation errors in Funi's dubs, nor for the future of the subtitles on the home video releases...
• In Toei's dialogue, Neva's name is pronounced as "Neh-va". In the Funimation dub, it's pronounced "Ney-va". This harkens back to their original errant "Kay-o Ken" pronunciation of King Kai's signature technique.
  • Further to the note above about using Toei's translations, it may be that the cast weren't given complete Japanese audio to reference. Between this and reverting to in-house Toei translations, it would be a return to the same process Funi used when dubbing "Season 3" of Dragon Ball Z in 1999.
  • That said, even the eternal Funi-skeptic Robo will note this dub seems to be of an overall reasonable quality, comparable to their prior work on Kai, Super, and the modern movies.
• In Funi's dub, Shen Long says "I shall grant [a wish] without hesitation". This is somewhat amusing considering he's deliberated in the past over granting wishes, particularly if they're complex or ambiguous (like he does here!). Funi's Gomah in fact calls Shen Long out on him taking time to grant his wish in this episode.

Basically, it's like this—it takes a long while for us to talk back and forth over each week's trivia; several hours per episode with all the fact-checking and redrafting, proofreading, etc. And unfortunately, just now, KBABZ and I are just super busy, and because we live on opposite sides of the planet, our waking hours line up weirdly at the best of times.

So, we're fine, and in fact KBABZ has written trivia for a few episodes without me, but we haven't had a chance to go over it... I'm actually an episode behind on viewing... and she's been so busy she hasn't had time to correctly format what she does have for posting.

Yeah we're alright. I'm having to do posting responsibilities but I keep putting it off because I've never done it before.

The other reason why it's taking so long now is because now I'm ALSO doing trivia for the Funi dub. For that I have two windows open of the relevant episode (4 this week, Chatty), one with the English closed captions and the other with Toei's subtitles. That means I'll always take at least twice the runtime of that episode to log everything.

Oh and I also wait until Kanzenshuu has their trivia up for the week's newest episode as well, since they're on the ball with stuff like name pun origins.

Okay, here we go! Time to catch up on A MONTH of trivia!! This is so large that it exceeds the 60,000 character count by around 23,000, so I've had to move the Funimation dub trivia to a second post. Also, this hasn't been edited by Robo like it usually is, so expect more rambling, dub names, and less Doctor Who references.

Also, as some of you may have noticed, I've updated my avatar! I do love the previous one, but I feel the new one I commissioned better reflects how I view myself (genderfluid, but female-leaning).



Errata Trivia - General

• In the overall "all continuities" timeline of things, Daima is the earliest point a third party comes along and makes a wish on the Earth Dragon Balls, catching the Dragon Team unawares. This would justify Bulma keeping better tabs on them by the time of Super!
• One of the scenes in the end credits depicts Vegeta, Piccolo and Kaioshin flying in the air on their own. This conflicts with the early episodes where Gomah states that doing this against the Third Demon World's thicker air would use too much energy.
• In Episode 10, Kaioshin explains that Abura limited the use of Sir Warp due to the fear of outside interference. However this cannot be the PIN codes, since in Episode 3 Kaioshin says they weren't in place when he last had to use Sir Warp (likely when he left the Demon Realm over a thousand years ago). It's unknown exactly what Abura's Sir Warp limitation was exactly.
• The revelation that Namekians and Glind used to live in the Second Demon World makes it retroactively odd that neither Kaioshin nor Kibito find it odd that Piccolo and Dende are on Earth, an extremely long way away from Namek.

To stop Goku's advancement, Gomah commits an unbelievable taboo! Goku and his companions can no longer proceed. Just when it seems their adventure is over, a certain someone reveals their true power!

Spoiler:

• The description and title of Episode 14 refer to an event that occurred at the start of Episode 13. Maybe we're crazy, but this suggests that the entire sequence with the Megaths in Ep 13 was added to pad out the episode count.
• The book that Peral reads has an interesting front and back cover:
  • The back cover gives an early depiction of the Demon Realm's structure, showing Gomah walking atop a sphere layered with the Third and Second Demon Realms, with the three Demon World Warp Sama instances above him.
  • The front cover of the book meanwhile has an advertisement for "Scorpion Soda", similar to the can of centipede meat from Episode 6.
• When talking to Peral, Panzy confirms the proper name for her radar-like communications device as a "cell" (as in, a cellphone) in the Toei subtitles.
• The design of the plane that King Kadan is shown stealing in the doodle-flashback is essentially a larger version of the plane he originally provided the Dragon Team back in Episode 5.
• In an easily-missed detail, in the doodle flashback King Kadan has a second bag tied over his face, looking like a moustache. This is likely a poor attempt as disguising his identity during the theft.
• The "one busted mid-sized plane" that Panzy mentions to Vegeta is the original plane King Kadan gave the Dragon Team back in Episode 5. Donating it forced the King to steal another mid-sized plane for Hybis.
• As KBABZ predicted for Episode 13's trivia, the colour of the Second Demon World's Sir Warp is indeed green!
• In the wide shot of Gomah and Degesu walking between the stairs, there doesn't appear to be a hallway behind the archway they just walked through.
• All of the Gendarmerie Force's fast food drinks are in either upside-down or pyramid-shaped cups.
• Just like the Ginyu Force, the Gendarmerie Force have an extended posing intro, complete with their own awesome music (the Ginyu Force would get one in DBZ Kai).
• The difference is that for the Gendarmerie Force, their leader is introduced first rather than last, each member gets their own coloured spotlight and name card, and their poses are somehow even LAMER.
• Kanzenshuu speculates that the names of the Gendarmerie Force are all named after insects:
  • Kadem could be "mukade" for "centipede".
  • Danima could be "madani" for "tick".
  • Hiria could be "hiria" for "fire ant", but may also be for the "Hillia" flowering plant, a connection to the Third Demon World.
  • Mashim could be "mamushi" for "pit viper".
  • Gaimoi could be "imogai" or "cone snail", making him the odd one out with a mollusc-based name like Namekians have, a connection to the Second Demon World.
• Just like in Dragon Ball Z, the boss that rules over the Force (Frieza / Gomah) blushes after they've assumed their final group pose.
• After Panzy's verbal explanation last week, this week we get to see a visual depiction of the three Demon Worlds and how they physically relate to one another. Even the tunnels between Demon Worlds are visible!
• Yes, the Gendarmerie Force leader, Captain Kadem, really suggested Gomah can relax in a bath and play with his fart bubbles while they do business. And then "peed [himself] a bit".
• Degesu and Gomah opt to float up the stairs when departing the lobby rather than walking up them. Much easier to animate!
• It appears Neva designed Sir Warp with an off switch, given he isn't surprised Gomah used it to impede their progress.
• Nyoi-bo once again extends for Goku without him verbally requesting it to, in order to prod Sir Warp. A few moments later, Goku verbally requests Nyoi-bo to extend in order to prod the Tunnel shield.
• It wasn't quite apparent back in Episodes 1 and 3 that the Demon World Tunnels were directly above/below the local Sir Warp, but Episode 13 makes this much clearer. This makes sense considering the three Demon Realm instances of Sir Warp were put in place after Neva created the Tunnel shields.
  • While the Tunnel up to the Second Demon World was not visible when Gomah flew up to the red Sir Warp in Episode 1, the vortex of clouds surrounding it was easy to see. It's likely the clouds simply obscured the Tunnel at the time.
• In Toei's provided subtitles, "Tunnel" is spelt with a capital T.
• The fact that Goku is electrocuted through Nyoi-bo once again implies that it's made out of metal.
• As highlighted by Bulma later on, seven of the current Dragon Team can fly: Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Kaioshin, Glorio and Neva (plus Panzy and Hybis at the end of this episode). Despite this, none of them jump out to save Goku when he falls down to the Tunnel shield.
• Neva is revealed to know how to fly in this episode, making it retroactively funny that he takes so long to walk up to Gomah's palace back in Episode 1.
• As noted by Kanzenshuu, Neva's shield-lowering spell ends with the word "Pupirittoparo", the same word used at the end of the passwords to summon Porunga on planet Namek (DB manga / Z anime) and Toronbo on planet Cereal (DBS manga). In those phrases, it's preceded by "Popporunga" for Porunga and "Totoronbo" for Toronbo.
• Neva says the phrase for the shield-lowering spell four times for the first instance, but only twice for the second one.
• Despite Goku being in danger, Neva opts to lower the shield to the Third Demon World first, rather than the shield to the First Demon World that Goku is currently falling towards.
• It takes 3 minutes and 18 seconds for Goku to wake up during his fall. Terminal velocity is 200 kilometers per hour, which takes 12 seconds (or 450 meters) to reach. This means that Goku would have fallen 11.45 kilometers in the time it takes for him to fall off and then wake up mid-flight. Meanwhile, it takes Nyoi-bo 10 seconds to do the same.
  • Notably, Goku appears to have fallen halfway down to the Tunnel to the First Demon World, meaning Hybis' plane was floating about 23 kilometers above the ground (ie twice the height Goku was when he woke up halfway down his fall). In Earth terms this would place the plane in the low Stratosphere, and double the height that commercial airliners fly at. Fortunately, Dragon Ball is a cartoon.
  • With the above knowledge, we can calculate that Nyoi-bo traveled 4,140 kilometers per hour, in order to hit the Tunnel shield 23 km below in 10 seconds.
• In the flashback for Neva's exposition this week, the two black Gendarmerie officers wear belts almost exactly like the one worn by Demon King Dabura, and appear to be the same race as him. The female officer behind them, meanwhile, is wearing a uniform whose shape is much like the Kaioshin uniform.
• The presence of the Gendarmerie in the background of the flashback is a contradiction: Neva erects the Tunnel shields partially because of them. But, in Episode 4 Kaioshin was unfamiliar with the Gendarmerie, but was familiar with the Tunnel shields!
• In another instance of Funimation verbiage affecting the Toei subtitles, Captain Kadem says "When you're at our power level, you can buy all of these snacks". The more authentic and traditional translation is "battle power".
  • On top of this, as Kanzenshuu notes, Kadem doesn't even say battle power / power level in his japanese audio, instead referring to strength in general.
• Degesu senses that the Tunnel shield is deactivated because he feels "something like wind blowing", implying the First Demon World hasn't had any wind since Neva created the Tunnel shields and Sir Warp. However this conflicts with Gomah's departure in Episode 1, with strong winds and lightning visibly buffeting their plane as they approach Sir Warp. Wind was also present at the start of Arinsu's first scene with Marba in Episode 8.
• Also as noted by Kanzenshuu, the name of the convenience store has a delicious triple meaning: "Gomart", a portmanteau, a contraction of "Gomah Market", and it could be read as "Go Mart"!
• The sheer wealth of luxurious candies in the First Demon World contrast the much more limited and gross selection in the Third Demon World, which has centipede meat and power-up bugs.
• One of the snacks the Gendarmerie Force grab for Majin Coo / Doo has the same tadpole-with-a-bowtie character that Panzy had a big plushie of (until it was lost to the kraken in Episode 10).
• The price displayed on the cash register uses the same font as Tamagami Number One's initial number hologram for his mental challenge in Episode 12. However the design of the number 1 has changed: in Ep 12 it was a vertical line, while here in Ep 14 it's more square and angular like the 0 is.
• The Gomart scene confirms that the First Demon World uses the dokuro currency like the Third Demon World does. This is the first time we get a good look at the physical coins, after seeing them from a distance back in Episode 4. They're triangular!
• A possible explanation for the Gendarmerie Force not affording Coo and Doo's snacks is because they just blew their savings on repairing Gomah's lobby.
• Captain Kadem's parting advice that "Kids shouldn't eat too many snacks" is much better advice for Majin Doo than "eat all these snacks to be powerful like us", considering the snacks were entirely junk food.
• Majin Coo eats his chocolate by biting directly into the full bar, rather than snapping a chunk off like you'd expect.
• Despite flying straight down, the Dragon Team don't seem to be affected by the sideways gravity whilst sitting in the plane.
• Bulma asks if she's the only one who can't fly: this indeed turns out to be the case, as Panzy and Hybis demonstrate the ability to fly in this episode.
  • The fact that Panzy can fly would have been incredibly handy when the Gendarmerie attacked her back in Episode 7. It contradicts her being a bit miffed that Goku knows how to fly back in Episode 5, as it implied that she couldn't do it herself.
• Vegeta tells Hybis to not forget the Dragon Balls, which is exactly what Goku, Panzy and Glorio almost did when the kraken attacked their previous plane in Episode 10.
• We can now add "slammed into the f-ing ground" as the eighth incident to occur to a plane in Daima. This is the second plane Goku's party have been in that's been destroyed beyond repair.
• Degesu uses the same model of portable communicator as Arinsu and Glorio do.
• Gomah is completely blindsided by the Dragon Team using the Tunnel to get to the First Demon World, despite being around from before they were shielded up (they're missing in the Third Eye theft flashback in Ep 15). However when introduced in Episode 3, Kaioshin doesn't know who put them up, meaning Neva's involvement was a complete secret and Gomah's just being simple-minded once again (Neva would be the prime suspect, however).

Episode 459 - Third Eye (Daima Episode 15)

The Evil Third Eye offers absolute power in the Demon Realm. King Gomah confirms its location and moves to obtain it! Will the Third Eye open on Gomah's forehead?!

Spoiler:

• The title for Episode 15 is the second in English to be made of two words: "Third Eye" (the first was Episode 12, "True Strength"). However in Japanese it's the first to be made of two words: "Sādo Ai".
• Despite the Crunchyroll description, Gomah doesn't properly gain possession of the Third Eye in this episode; he only attains and equips it in the next episode.
• The sound effect used for the Gendarmerie plane's guns are the same ones used for various machine guns throughout the classic anime, the Red Ribbon Army in particular.
• In an easily-missed detail, Hybis is eating snacks when the Dragon Team first takes cover at the start of the episode.
• The Gendarmerie having electric stun shots gives actual consequences to their guns, which have never had any for Saiyans since the very first chapter of the manga.
• It takes fifteen episodes for being in a kids body to be of serious hindrance to Goku and Vegeta.
• It's curious that Dabura, Gomah and Arinsu never used the Magic Monitors to observe the past and figure out what happened to the Third Eye so they could claim it, considering they did that to observe the Boo Arc from a few months prior.
• The Third Eye exposition scene uses 21:9 widescreen rather than 16:9 like the rest of the show.
• The Third Eye being placed upon the forehead and giving the wearer immense power is rather similar to Babidi's "Majin" spell, which also boosted the subject's power and branded an M on their forehead.
• The red background that appears in the exposition when a Supreme King is powered up by the Third Eye is reminiscent of a shot from the end of the original Head Cha La intro, when the Saiyan pods hit the ground and turn the background completely red.
• Dabura's hairline is somewhat lower in the Third Eye exposition, as it doesn't have to make room for the Majin "M" on his forehead.
• The insect majin that works for Dabura doesn't have any ears to be pointy. Instead, it's their antennae that are pointy.
• The key that Dabura's minion uses is in the same style as the hotel keys given to Glorio in Episode 3, in that it has two hooked prongs rather than a shaft with teeth.
• The Third Eye exposition gives an actual timeframe for when the Tunnel shields were put up: during the reign of King Dabura (since they're not present so that Dabura's minion can easily get to the Third Demon World). Sir Warp would have been in place before that (since Kaioshin explains that Abura restricted their use), but the PIN code system implemented after Kaioshin left over a thousand years prior to Daima, since that caught him by surprise in Episode 3.
• The majin that kills Dabura's minion is visually similar to the bandits that attacked Goku, Kaioshin and Glorio back in Episode 3.
• Neva telling the Dragon Team to figure out the situation themselves is broadly reminiscent of Shen Long's opinion that the heroes rely too much on the Dragon Balls to solve their problems.
• It's unknown if the Gendarmerie guns actually have ammo or not. Batteries, maybe?
• Neva stating to Piccolo that one hit to a vital area would be over is rather ironic, considering Piccolo famously failed to hit any of Goku's during the 23rd Tournament.
• The wide shot of the Dragon Team looking at Gomah's castle is the first time we can see the bottom of it, revealing the palace extends past to the bottom of the floating island it's on.
• In the wide shot of Arinsu's reflection, she and the Majin brothers are visible in the reflection on the floor. A nice detail!
• King Kadan and his men don't have Magic Collars in this episode. This means that they learned how to destroy them as Panzy implied she'd share back in Episode 7, however we don't know exactly when she did this.
  • Interestingly, in Episode 14 Peral and King Kadan (in the doodle flashback) still have their Collars on. Thus the earliest time for Kaioshin to teach them the spell would have been right after that call.
• King Kadan's ship is the second time a ship has been destroyed by gunfire, and the second in two episodes to have outright exploded.
• Here's some stats on how long each plane has lasted in Daima thus far:
  • Glorio's plane lasted one episode, debuting at the very end of Ep 2 and getting stolen at the end of Ep 3. It's currently the third-shortest serving plane that actually worked, despite being one of the fastest.
  • King Kadan's mid-sized plane lasted two episodes, debuting in Ep 6 and being gunned apart by the Gendarmerie in Ep 7.
  • Kaioshin's ship is the shortest-lived by a technicality, as it crashed on its maiden voyage at the end of Ep 6.
  • The Gendarmerie plane lasted three episodes, debuting in the middle of Ep 7 before getting eaten by a kraken in the middle of Ep 10.
  • Hybis' stolen plane lasted for seven episodes, debuting at the end of Ep 7 before being deliberately crashed at the end of Ep 14. It is thus far the longest-serving plane in the show.
  • King Kadan's stolen ship is the second-shortest lived plane, being introduced in a flashback mid-way into Ep 14 and then blown up a few seconds after it's properly introduced in Ep 15.
• It isn't exactly explained HOW King Kadan and his men were able to survive being shot down by the Gendarmerie tank, although they all demonstrate the ability to fly later on.
• After the battle, Goku refers to King Kadan respectfully as "your highness" in the Toei subs. This is likely because Goku highly values his contribution to the fight against the Gendarmerie, and thus it feels warranted to him.
• Per Kanzenshuu, Episode 15 is the first where King Kadan's men and women are given proper voice credits.
• Also in the credits, the majin who trades Hybis' Third Eye for her hat is credited as "Beautiful Woman in the Strange Hat".

Episode 460 - Degesu (Daima Episode 16)

Meanwhile, in the palace, Degesu takes action for his own ambitions!

Spoiler:

• Episode 16 is the first Daima episode to use the recap in full from Episode 1. All previous recaps have been truncated in some way to make them shorter.
• The music used in the quick replay of the end of Episode 17 lacks the "wicked guitar lick" that is normally heard at the end of it.
• Episode 16 is the first time we've seen Dende since the brief scene with him being read bedtime stories in Episode 5, a gap of 11 episodes.
• Dende's bedding has been changed from being under a blanket to being wrapped in a blanket cocoon with no pillow, presumably so that it's easier for the other characters to carry him.
• In the close-ups of the Gendarmerie Force's faces, their pupils glow with their associated character card text and spotlight colour.
• Kadem announces that he won't let the Dragon Team take another step further. Aside from walking up to them and using a kick, Vegeta is able to down the entire force without moving his feet.
• Vegeta defeats the Force Member No.3, Hillia, by using the same trick Goku used on Piccolo Jr. at the 23rd Tenkaichi Bodukai: he moves right up into their face to get the guided shot to hit his opponent, after moving away at the last moment.
• Kadem's sword has a sphere on the end, implying that it can also be fired as a projectile weapon.
• The binds that wrap around the Gendarmerie Force (and later Degesu) after they're defeated resembles the binds that Boo made from his own body back in the Boo Arc.
• The gold statue of Gomah, in addition to being far more opulent than Dabura's statue in Episode 3, was likely included so that the Dragon Team knows what he looks like in contrast to his Third Eye form in Episode 17, which is how they first see him face-to-face (we previously saw a statue of Gomah in the Episode 4 town, but Goku didn't look at it).
• It's never actually explained what Degesu is reacting to in the shot of him looking out of the window just before the eyecatches. We have to assume it's the Dragon Team heading into Gomah Castle... except everyone had already left by the time he looks out the window.
• Goku is able to sense Dende's ki, but opts not to use teleportation to get there quickly (if he were touching Piccolo and Vegeta, they would have warped with him). He also doesn't note Degesu's ki at all.
• Degesu and Goku questioning what Kaioshin does is a legitimate question; it's become a bit of a meme in the Dragon Ball fandom that Kaioshin's actual work is not really defined, and he spends most of the Boo Arc completely out of his league. Of course without the intervention of him and Kibito, neither the Boo Arc or Daima would have ended in victory.
• Yes, Panzy really did try to attack Degesu using an electric fly swatter.
• Despite Glorio being extremely resistant to Panzy joining the group in Episode 5, 11 episodes later he goes out of his way to follow her into Gomah's castle and save her from Degesu, allowing her to rescue Dende.
• Degesu being defeated (in part) by Hybis' strange hat is very ironic, considering Hybis only got the hat as part of a trade with the woman Degesu hired in the first place.
• Degesu dooms himself trying to make off with Dende and usurp Gomah. Had he stayed with Gomah, he would have been able to intercept the woman he hired to get the Third Eye, and either strengthen himself with it or stay in the protection of Third Eye Gomah as he fought the Dragon Team and Arinsu. Ultimately, his ambition results in him being the first of Daima's villains to fall (not counting the Gendarmerie Force, who don't appear to be truly evil).
• The destruction from Majin Coo and Doo's fights with Tamagami Number One are still present when the Dragon Team visit it in this episode.
• Glorio's surprise at the One-Star Dragon Ball being missing may hint that he had no idea about Arinsu's full plans when he was hired by her. He vocally expresses his surprise early in Episode 17 as well.
• Majin Coo and Doo appear drowsy when they first appear in this episode, because they were seen sleeping on Arinsu's couch in the previous one.
• As evidenced by Gomah swinging it around, the Third Eye is capable of becoming dizzy.
• Gomah may not be aware of how to properly equip the Third Eye: in the exposition in Episode 15, Abura equips it by placing it into his forehead himself. Gomah meanwhile feels the need to ask the woman to do that for him.
  • It's possible that Gomah enjoys the ceremony of such a thing, and originally intended to have Degesu do it instead.
• The bulked-up form of Third Eye Gomah is visually similar to Jiren from Dragon Ball Super, being black-and-red tights with white gloves and boots.
• The Next Episode Preview for Episode 17 is the second time Daima uses an extended preview, possibly to further extend this episode's runtime. The last time it was used was for Episode 8's NEP, which also showcased a major fight in the series.

Episode 461 - Gomah (Daima Episode 17)

Goku and his companions face off with Arinsu. With everything on the line, their battle begins. But all of a sudden, a transformed King Gomah stands before both parties!

Spoiler:

• Episode 17 is the seventh Daima episode to not have the series recap, after Episodes 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 12. It breaks the longest recap streak in Daima, with the previous four episodes (13-16) having one. Thus far, more Daima episodes have had the series recap than not.
• Dr. Arinsu goes five episodes without being approached by Gomah for possessing the One-Star Ball, despite him knowing that she has it as of Episode 12.
• Majin Doo proclaims a love for chocolate cookies, despite us only seeing him eat pure chocolate thus far in the show.
• Bulma notes that Majin Coo and Doo look like Majin Boo, however she (and nobody else, really) note that they look like Saibamen, whom Piccolo Vegeta have seen first-hand.
  • Interestingly, in the anime (both Z and Kai) Bulma witnesses the Saibamen at Kame House via a TV broadcast, which is how she and Puar learn that Yamcha is killed. In the manga she doesn't see them, as the TV crew were added for filler.
• Majin Coo doesn't seem to regard his victory in Tamagami Number One's mental challenge as an actual victory, given he says he lost to it and that Doo was the victor.
• Kaioshin explains to Arinsu that Gomah wished the Dragon Team into children. While this is the first time Arinsu has seen the Dragon Team, she was the one to egg Gomah on into wishing they be turned into children back in Episode 1 (which everyone except Glorio is completely unaware of).
• Kaioshin does a cheeky squint with a grin, an expression he hasn't used since the memorable scene where he and Kibito first met Goku and the Dragon Team back in the Boo Arc.
• Arinsu threatens to destroy her One-Star Dragon Ball, once again highlighting the incredibly ambiguous nature of whether you can do that or not. Krillin attempted to do this to a Namekian Dragon Ball back in the Namek Arc to prevent the Ginyu Force from obtaining it. In the earlier Daimao Arc, Yajirobi had drilled a hole for a string so he could wear one around his neck (which disappeared as soon as the string was removed).
• Vegeta makes a much bigger deal about fighting the Majin Brothers than he did with Tamagami Number One in the previous episode. This is possibly because Majin Doo is stronger than Number One is, and thus would be a more thrilling fight for him.
• Majin Doo is seen trying to poke a butterfly with a stick, the third time the Majin Brothers have referenced Arale (who is famed for poking poop with sticks. BUTT-erfly?)
• Vegeta challenges Goku to Jan-ken, or rock paper scissors, to determine who should fight next. This was something they actually did back in Babidi's ship to determine who should fight their first opponent, Pui Pui.
• Goku hasn't had to fight two stretchy green arms since he fought Piccolo Jr. at the 23rd Tournament!
• After Goku takes out Nyoi-bo, he holds it in both hands while it's slightly curved, looking a lot like the artwork used for the first Dragon Ball Blue Brick DVD set.
• The shot of Goku running along the top of the ruined wall is visually similar to a shot in Dragon Ball Z's first intro, of Gohan running along some mountain peaks whilst Shen Long bursts from the clouds behind him.
• Assuming the scene of Gomah removing and equipping the Third Eye runs alongside this episode's courtyard scenes, it takes Gomah 5 minutes and 6 seconds to emerge out of his castle to confront Arinsu and the Dragon Team.
• Episode 17 is the first time Gomah has been seen fighting, thus it's unknown how much prior fighting experience he actually has. In Episode 5 however Panzy notes that "not even Gomah" was able to defeat the Tamagami, implying some combat prowess.
• Episode 17 is the first Daima episode to have an ad break in the middle of a shot; it's almost completely seamless outside of the audio fading in and out.
• Tamagami Number One has turned to face Gomah on the castle during the ad break, and will do so again to face Gomah fighting in his arena. No Tamagami has been seen moving on or from their podium on-screen thus far, outside of stepping off of it to fight.
• Arinsu being blindsided by the Evil Third Eye highlights the fact that she only had audio communication with Glorio, compared to the Magic Monitors that allowed Gomah to visually confirm that Hybis had it.
• The full name of the Third Eye is "Evil Third Eye", which may imply it makes the wearer evil if they weren't already. If true, it makes the Third Eye even more similar to Babidi's "Majin" spell.
• Hybis never actually admits that he gave away his belt and so enabled Gomah to become a true threat.
• It takes two and a half episodes for anyone to notice that Hybis isn't wearing his belt anymore (nobody has formally called out his new hat yet either, despite its use in taking out Degesu!).
• Gomah preparing a special fighting ring is reminiscent of Cell preparing the arena for the Cell Games. It also conveniently allows him to avoid damaging his own palace!
• Gomah's fighting arena has been present in the intro, however there we see Goku and Vegeta fighting the Gendarmerie Force instead.
• Whilst forming the rocky fighting arena, Gomah points his middle and index fingers upwards. This is the same motion that Nappa used to destroy East City back in the Saiyan Arc.
• It appears Gomah doesn't quite know how to control his strength, as all three hits on the castle are his fault.
• This episode confirms that King Kadan and his subjects can fly.
• Vegeta and Piccolo perform a synchronized diving kick together. This is a reference to the Rider Kick move performed by the titular Kamen Rider, and was previously referenced as Videl's Super attack with Great Saiyaman in Dragon Ball FighterZ.
• Gomah is able to avoid getting hit by Number One's ki attack, much like how Number Three dodged the extending Nyoi-bo at the last millisecond in Episode 8.
• Starting from Gomah appearing to fight Goku, Vegeta and Piccolo at 19:47 to Gomah blasting the Dragon Team way at 20:15, the fight is depicted using one continuous 32 second shot.
• Piccolo's Makankosappo is depicted with a blue core and purple spiral. In previous appearances, both were yellow.
• Goku being frozen in place, only to be saved by another combatant, is rather similar to how General Blue froze Krillin / Goku in place only to be saved by Goku / a mouse.

Errata Trivia - Episode 2

Spoiler:

• The fact that Shen Long has a bonus for regular users is quite funny when you remember that originally, the Dragon Balls were almost impossible to gather together!
• Krillin's wristwatch shrunk with him after Shen Long's wish to make him a kid. Huh!
• While not entirely relevant, it's worth remembering that one of Toriyama's interviews revealed that Mr. Satan's birthname is Mark (as in, Marku, or Akuma). He likely would have gone by this name when he was a first-grader... unless his stage name is that old!
• Kibito not having heard of Neva comes off as a bit strange now in retrospect, considering the long-lived Glind used to live in the Second Demon World alongside the Namekians. Considering Kibito is even older than Kaioshin, he should know who the most legendary Namekian is!
• Piccolo's statement that Neva stayed behind to protect the Dragon Balls while the Namekians left is somewhat inaccurate, as the Tamagami already serve that purpose and were likely created before the Namekians departed for the Living Realm.
• When approaching his spaceship, Kaioshin says "I came to this universe in this spaceship", another indicator of Sir Warp allowing people to travel to other universes before it's stated outright in Episode 10.
• The first attack on something that Goku tries to perform as a kid again is an aerial kick on a pillar. This happens to be the very first attack we see him perform ever, on a cut log at the start of Episode / Chapter 1 (also a cylindrical, inanimate object!).
• Kaioshin explaining the lore behind pointed majin ears is the first of Daima's many loredumps.
• Toei's provided subtitles for Karin refers to the terra firma of Earth using the term "Surface World".
• Yajirobe is notably absent from Karin's Lookout. This is somewhat surprising considering he's been a mainstay of it since the Cell Arc.
  • KBABZ appreciates this change, since she found it odd he bothered to hang around with Karin at all considering he debuted as a wandering ronin-type character.
• Karin states that nobody really used Nyoi-bo to go to Kami's Palace, and thus he removed it. This is similar to the very first time Goku had to get to Kami's Palace: in the aftermath of the Daimao fight Karin says he "thought no-one worthy to visit [Kami's Lookout] would ever show up", thus he gave it to Roshi.
• At the end of Episode 2, Vegeta refers to the Earth's Dragon Balls as "our Dragon Balls", suggesting that he associates as being an Earthling by this point instead of a displaced Saiyan Prince.
• Had Glorio not appeared to pick up Goku and Kaioshin, the mission would have ended in failure. This is because Bulma fails to repair Kaioshin's ship even ahead of schedule, and Hybis only appears to pick them up because Goku and Kaioshin ask King Kadan to do it after they had already made it to the Demon Realm!
• The Demon Realm numbers font used for Tamagami Number One's mental challenge get an early preview in Episode 2: the number 88888 is visible on the display of the yoke in Glorio's plane after he turns it on.

Errata Trivia - Episode 3

Spoiler:

• Kaioshin states that Demon Realm planes use magic power, foreshadowing the reveal of their Majinite power source in Episode 13.
• Glorio states that while Gomah is powerful, Goku should be able to defeat him given that he defeated Majin Boo. This assessment doesn't seem to account for the Evil Third Eye, since it was lost at the end of King Abura's reign, and Third Eye Gomah proves to be a significant challenge for Goku.
• While the Sir Warp gates to the First and Third Demon Worlds are correctly coloured Red and Yellow, the hatch to the Second is coloured blue, when its Sir Warp is green.
• It isn't explained how Glorio planned to get from the Third Demon World to the First, since at that time they didn't have Panzy and her connections to help them out with the PIN codes.
  • A possible way around it would be for him to contact Arinsu to get a new PIN to go to the First Demon World, but it's hard to say given that Glorio doesn't appear to know Arinsu's full plans (collecting the Demon Realm Dragon Balls, which would require them to go to the Second Demon World as well).
• In the Toei subs, the mini-Warp says "Heading back to the Demon World?". This is a rare terminology slip-up, as he should be saying "Demon Realm" ("World" is only used for the three sections of the Demon Realm).
• Kaioshin states that the Tunnel shields had been put in place "by the time [he] was young". This is a contradiction: in Episode 13 we see Dabura orchestrate the downfall of Abura, during which time the Tunnel shields were not yet present. But in Episode 10, Kaioshin states that Abura's rule was one of the reasons he and the other Glind left!
  • A possible solution is that there was still a stretch of time between the loss of the Evil Third Eye and Dabura usurping his father. Dabura likely planned to take the throne soon after getting the Third Eye, but without it he had to fall back on a much more long-term plan.
• Dabura's statue still being around makes sense, as it was only recently learned that he had been killed and Gomah ascended to the throne.
• Despite the heavy gas in the Third Demon World, it's never mentioned if the gas used to flow down the Tunnel into the Second and First Demon Worlds.
• Glorio's comment that Glind never visited the Third Demon World is extra-pointed when one remembers that Third Demon Realm ruffians would often visit and trouble the Second Demon World where the Glind lived.
• Episode 3 is the debut of the eyecatch of Goku joining Panzy, Kaioshin and Glorio in the Third Demon World. However this would not become the lineup of the Goku group until Episode 5 when she joins the group.
• The two majin who eye the Dragon Team in the town have blue rim lighting on the left and right sides of their bodies... even the sides directly away from the blue window behind them.
• The hotel owner accidentally paints himself into a corner in his attempted extortion of Glorio. By mentioning he's the only hotel in the region, he can't suggest Glorio find somewhere else to stay so he can get him out of his hair.
• Many majin in the Third Demon World, such as Panzy, wear scarves and bandannas around their necks, possibly as a way to disguise their Magic Collars.
• Glorio offering Kaioshin a drink reflects the fact that majin only need water for sustenance.
• That Demon Realm hamburgers are "doubled" means that technically, Goku ate the equivalent of ten Earth hamburgers!
• Glorio refuses to answer Goku's question of what his hamburger meat was made of. It's likely insect / arachnid meat, although amusingly Goku is completely unfussed by the centipede meat he eats in Episode 6.
• Episode 3 is when Goku starts his Daima habit of questioning the use of weapons in Daima, specifically regarding the majin wielding an incredibly heavy axe.
• In the shot of the manwolf and lizard man majin running to Glorio's ship, they have a band-aid on their head and bandages around their belly, respectively. Obviously, these reflect the injuries they sustained in the bar fight.

Errata Trivia - Episode 4

Spoiler:

• Upon seeing the Sea of Darkness, Goku calls it "a dead end", a rather coincidental pun!
• Episode 4 is the first time that Goku assumes his traditional fighting stance in Daima, right after he senses the ogre that's about to attack.
• The ogre that attacks Goku and co. has the same design as the one who kills Dabura's henchmen with the Evil Third Eye, during the flashback in Episode 15.
• Despite having trouble pronouncing Glorio's name, Goku nails "Tamagami" on the first try!
• In both the Toei subs and Funi dub, Kaioshin says that you have to "steal" the Dragon Balls from each Tamagami. This isn't quite true: the Tamagami instead hand over the Dragon Ball as a reward for defeating them. Nobody has yet attempted to outright take the Dragon Ball off before defeating them.
  • Despite affirming Kaioshin's phrasing, Glorio soon after says "You must fight and defeat them to obtain the Balls" in Toei's subs. In the Funi dub, he says "Anybody who wants to take a Dragon Ball will have to work for it", maintaining the inaccuracy.
• Kaioshin's unfamiliarity with the Demon Realm Dragon Balls implies that they were put into place less than a thousand years prior to Daima (since that's when the Glind departed the Second Demon World).
• Kaioshin being unfamiliar with the Demon Realm Dragon Balls, combined with Glorio saying they're the original set, puts a more definitive timeframe on how old the Namekian Dragon Balls are. This is because Kaioshin only left the Second Demon World "over a thousand years ago" (as Arinsu says in Ep 17), meaning the Namekians left the Demon Realm before Neva created the Dragon Balls, after which the other Namekians would leave, settle on Namek, and create their own set.
  • This also means that the Nameless Namekian was sent away from Namek, split into Kami and Piccolo Daimao, and created Earth's Dragon Balls inside this timeframe.
• Glorio states that "as far as he knows" nobody has ever had their wish granted by the Demon Realm Dragon Balls (which is also upheld by Panzy saying the same thing in Ep 5). However in Ep 11, Neva states that "bad people learned of them and began using them for foolish purposes". Considering that the Demon Realm Dragon Balls are less than a thousand years old (less than the average lifespan of a Majin), it's surprising that none of them know about what Neva says in Episode 11.
• Goku appears to have bought two Join Bugs, meaning one could be used for him and Vegeta and another for... I dunno the Majin Brothers. He also buys a Beaut Bug, which could be used for Bulma or Chi-Chi to make their skin smooth, something they admire almost immediately after being wished into children in Episode 2. Lastly, he also buys a pink Zutzu / Urrrgh Bug for treating headaches.
• Goku also only has one Revive Bug in the close-up, yet he and Vegeta each eat two in future episodes, with a third implied at the end of Episode 17. Of course, it's easily possible that we simply didn't see the rest of the bugs as they were still inside the pouch.
• Kaioshin says that the Sky Seed is "not quite what [he] imagined", inadvertently quoting pretty much everyone after a classic "Toriyama twist".
• When formulating a plan, Goku says that "they can turn back into grownups" after wishing to rescue Dende, meaning he assumes the Demon Realm dragon only grants a single wish. He happens to be right on the money: Episode 1 showed us that Gomah and Degesu were surprised to learn that Shen Long grants three wishes!
• The gold coin offerings seen in the town square scene are triangular, albeit seen from a long distance. We wouldn't get to see dokuro coins any closer until Episode 14 in the Gomart scene.
• In Episode 15, a First Demon World citizen notes Goku's round ears. Curiously, nobody in the Third Demon World town do this after Goku saves Panzy, despite getting a much clearer look at him.
• Glorio's proposed plan (and Goku's in the Funi dub) is to rescue Dende with the Demon Realm Dragon Balls, then use the Earth Dragon Balls to wish everyone back to normal. However this ignores Glorio, Piccolo and Gomah's assertions that Dende being a child renders the Earth Dragon Balls useless. Neither Goku nor Kaioshin correct Glorio on what he says, nor propose using the Namekian Dragon Balls instead.
• Kaioshin is unfamiliar with who the Gendarmerie are, suggesting they were established after he left the Second Demon World over a thousand years prior. This actually contradicts Neva's lore from Episode 11, where the Gendarmerie are seen pestering the Second Demon World, which is why Neva creates the Tunnel shields... which Kaioshin was familiar with in Episode 3!
  • A possible explanation is that they weren't called Gendarmerie in Kaioshin's time.

Errata Trivia - Episode 5

Spoiler:

• While talking to Kaioshin, Panzy says that she heard most of the Glind left to the outside world a long time ago. Kaioshin would give a proper history on this at the end of Episode 10.
• Panzy notes that her father, King Kadan, steals from thieves. As it happens, he'll steal ships twice during the course of Daima!
• The Castle Kadan throne room has two thrones, implying the large red-haired majin is the queen.
• Panzy notes that outsiders can fly, however Goku had yet to demonstrate this in front of Panzy. She'd first witness him doing so in Episode 8 after he turns Super Saiyan.
• Kaioshin says that their task is to rescue their Namekian friend Dende. Despite the exodus of the Namekians being well-known in the Demon Realm, neither Panzy nor King Kadan make note of this.
• There's a tiny animation error in the throne room scene. When King Kadan leans forward to react to their plans to recover the Demon Realm Dragon Balls, the mask on the armrest of Kadan's throne has one frame where it hasn't moved fast enough out of the way of Kadan's belly.
• When we first covered Episode 5, KBABZ noted that none of the giant majin are shown being defeated by Goku in the arena. This is incorrect! Goku defeats one as his final opponent, with a flick of his finger no less!
• Goku has trouble counting up the number of passengers Hybis will be taking back with him, implying his number skills haven't improved very much since the 21st Tournament.
• As Panzy goes up the ramp of the plane to her father's protests, she notes that she has her "secret weapon", likely referring to her tazer, flyswatter, or the device that disables Gendarmerie communicators from Episode 7 (which also functions as a blaster in Episode 15).
• Goku says that he'll keep Panzy safe on their journey. This turns out to be true, as Goku goes out of his way to protect her from the Gendarmerie in Episode 7.
• Panzy states that the Third Demon World is the biggest in the Demon Realm. This is in fact true: we now know that the Demon Worlds are layered like a spherical cake. Since the Third World is the outer-most one, it would easily be bigger than the other two!

Okay, and now for a month's worth of dub trivia! Just what everyone's here asked for!

Dub Trivia - Episode 2

Spoiler:

• Like the Japanese audio, the Funi dub recasts every young character role except for young Goku. Here's a few notable recasts:
  • Young Krillin is now played by Lara Woodhull. This is the strangest recast as Laurie Steele, the actress for young Krillin in the original Dragon Ball, was still playing the part in Dragon Ball Super flashbacks.
  • Young Vegeta is now voiced by Paul Castro Jr. instead of Justin Briner.
  • Young Chi-Chi continues to be voiced by Brittany Lauda as she was in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Laura Bailey, the previous actress, no longer plays the part as she's now a union-only actress (Funimation having become notorious for not paying their VOs very well).
  • While first-grader Master Roshi isn't actually a recast (since Roshi has never been shown at this age before), KBABZ felt the need to highlight him because Jordan Dash Cruz does a great job sounding like Mike McFarland's performance but young!
• As one might expect, the Funi dub of Daima does not use an English version of the OP and ED songs, instead sticking with the Japanese versions. However, this means the lyrics are not translated when using the dub's closed captions; they're only translated when using the Japanese subtitles.
• In Toei's subtitles, Neva says "Then you'd have to fight the Tamagamis and win", while in the Funi dub, he says "The Tamagami would have some things to say about it". The Toei version implies that Neva summoning the Demon Realm Dragon Balls would bring the Tamagami with them, bringing the amusing visual of Gomah having to fight all three of them at once!
• In Toei's subtitles, the Tamagami are pluralised with an "s" at the end, while the Funi dub follows the sheep/sheep rule by sticking with "Tamagami".
• The vocalizations from baby Dende, Trunks and Goten are replaced in the Funi dub, despite sounding rather similar to the original Japanese audio.
• Unlike Toei, Funimation don't add an echo for when Trunks and Goten talk to each other as babies.
• In the Funi script, Vegeta says "Did someone turn the whole planet into a daycare?". This is more specific than Toei's "Has everyone shrunk?!", and makes it clearer that Vegeta means everyone on Earth, thus making Mr. Satan's response make more sense.
• In Toei's subtitles, Mr. Satan calls himself a "super hero", while Funimation renders it as "superhero" in their captions. The trademark for "Super Hero" used to be jointly owned by DC and Marvel since 1967, until the US Trademark Office cancelled it on September 26th 2024. Despite this, they did not oppose the use of "Super Hero" in the subtitle of the second Dragon Ball Super movie in 2022.
• In the Toei subtitles, Roshi says "I'm Master Roshi", with Goku responding "You're Old Kamesennin!". In the Funi dub, it's instead "Can't recognize your own teacher?" then "Hah! Master Roshi! You look completely different!", as Funimation refuse to use "Kamesen'nin" (despite "Roshi" meaning "Master", making his name redundant).
• In the Toei subs, Roshi renames himself "Big Kamesennin", while in the Funi dub he chooses "Big Bro Turtle Hermit".
• Toei's subtitles have Kaioshin say "The Demon Realm?!", while in the Funi dub he says "It might be worse than I feared", possibly because Funi felt it redundant after Mr. Popo already name-dropped the Demon Realm.
• When Kibito drops off Kaioshin's hip, rather than using Toei's "I have returned", Funimation opt for "As requested", which feels far less redundantly redundant.
• When entering his ship, Kaioshin says "I don't know if it still works" in the Toei subs, but uses the more optimistic "It might still fly" in the Funi dub.
• In the Funi dub, Goku declares "There's not a machine in the universe that Bulma can't fix", which becomes unfortunate given that she's ultimately unable to fix Kaioshin's ship. In the Toei subs, he just says "We can get Bulma to fix it".
• In Toei's subs, Bulma's analysis of Kaioshin's ship is "What is this? This thing is practically junk". In Funi's dub, it's "Seriously? Okay, wow. Insurance would write this thing off."
• In the Funi dub, Bulma says that the structure of Kaioshin's ship is "different than anything I've seen". This is an interesting statement to make considering the ship's similarity to the Nameless Namekian's ship (and that Glind and Namekians both lived in the Second Demon Realm). It still makes sense however, as the Namekian ship didn't run on Majilite like Kaioshin's ship does.
• Kibito refers to Bulma as "Miss", which makes sense given he didn't interact with her at all during the Boo Arc, and so may not know her name.
• In the Funi dub, Bulma hums Jaka Jaan whilst welding in the garage. She hums in the Toei audio too, but not any specific tune.
• After Goku snaps the column, in the Funi dub Vegeta says "Would you put a sock in it, Kakarot?". This implies that Saiyans wear socks.
• In the Funi dub, Vegeta askes "Is every pointy-eared creature that walks on two legs originally from the Demon Realm?". This is more specific than the Toei subs, which don't specify bipeds.
• Kibito's lore dump for this episode has some interesting differences between the sub and dub:
  • Toei's subtitles have Kibito explain that "many Majin slipped out of the Demon Realm", implying these were unintended cases (at least as far as the Supreme Demon King was concerned). The Funi dub meanwhile words it as "Majin travelled often to other worlds"; this fits better with the later reveal that Majin were free to travel how they wished until Abura and Dabura's later restrictions were added.
  • In the same sentence, Kibito says that several Majin "[visited] universes like yours". This again implies multiple universes like in Dragon Ball Super, yet nobody else at the table react to this information. The Toei subs meanwhile don't make this implication at all.
  • Kibito finishes in the Funi dub by saying that "whoever leaves the Demon Realm is unable to return". This is a more romantically sad interpretation of the Toei subs, where he says "only those who are granted permission can travel to and from the Demon Realm". It's possible that Funimation phrased their line that way to add significance to the Namekians leaving the Demon Realm.
• When Goku lands on top of Karin's Lookout, in the Funi dub he says "W-where is it?". This makes it clearer that something is missing, compared to "Huh?!" from the Toei subs.
• Over 30 years after the term first debuted, Goku still refers to Nyoi-bo as "Power Pole" in English dubs!
• While Goku broadly postulates that Roshi put Nyoi-bo "away somewhere" in the Toei subs, in the Funi dub he's more specific with "sitting around in a closet somewhere".
• Goku comes off as more polite in the Funi dub, saying "Thank you for this meal" instead of "Let's eat!" as in the Toei subs. This is because the original dialogue is "itadakimasu", a traditional japanese phrase that actually means both.
• In the Funi dub, Kibito says "Miss, I am an attendant to the Supreme Kai, not your personal errand boy". This actually introduces his role and position to unfamiliar audiences, something Toei's subs don't do.
• When relating what he's heard about the Demon Realm, Piccolo says in the Funi dub "Pretty nice, from what I'm told. The Namekian part was, at least". This is more specific than the Toei subs, and foreshadows the less hospitable biomes that make up the Third and First Demon Worlds.
• Funimation don't add a sound effect for the twinkle of Glorio's plane approaching the Lookout.
• The captions for Piccolo's line in the dub read "I can't be sure my senses aren't dulled", a grammatical error. It should read "I can't be sure, my senses are dulled".
• In the Funi dub, Kaioshin's reaction to Glorio's request is "What?! King Gomah?!", implying he's also shocked that Gomah is now Supreme King of the Demon Realm.
• Glorio's wording about his mission is different in each version. The Toei subs say "I was given the request in secret to come get you", while the Funi dub says "We had no involvement before I got this job, and officially, I'm not here". Funi's version results in Gomah being even shadier about who he actually reports to.
• In the Funi dub, Vegeta calls Glorio a "sniveling little coward" for his strict adherence to the plane's head count.

Dub Trivia - Episode 3

Spoiler:

• Episode 3 reveals that the Funi dub uses unique recordings for the edited-down series recap, something the Japanese audio doesn't do.
• Funimation translates the formal "Warp-sama' from the Toei subs as "Sir Warp". While the intent likely isn't to give Warp a title, it communicates the air of respect that the being expects when talking with him.
• The Funi dub adds MANY instances of Kaioshin saying "universe" when talking to Glorio on the way to Sir Warp. These foreshadow his exposition in Episode 11 and the multiverse reveal in Battle of Gods, but are not present in the original Japanese version of this scene:
  • In the Funi dub, Kaioshin says that Demon Realm planes are faster "than the ships in this universe", a comparison he doesn't make in the Toei subs.
  • Kaioshin says that Sir Warp connects to "the universes outside", while in the Toei subs he says "the outside world", singular.
  • Kaioshin says "This universe likely has more than one, but which is closest to Earth?" in the Funi dub, and "Where is the closest Warp-sama to Earth?" in the Toei subs.
  • Kaioshin says "Do I recall you saying that you came to our universe to recruit Goku on orders from higher up?" in the Funi dub, and "You said you were asked to come get Goku-san, correct?" in the Toei subs.
• In the Funi dub, Goku says "Wow!" to Kaioshin's explanation, but in the Toei subs he says "Huh?", implying he didn't understand any of what Kaioshin said to him.
• In the Toei subs, Goku mis-speaks King Gomah as "King Tamah", but says "King Gomer" in the Funi dub. This is actually a closer approximation than one might think: both are Hebrew names!
• In the Funi dub, Goku ends a sentence with "So let's go kick King Gomah's butt!", immediately pronouncing his name properly. He'll infamously struggle with Glorio's name in future episodes.
• In the Japanese audio, Goku has a radio-like effect when talking to Sir Warp while the camera is outside of the ship. In the Funi dub, it's a reverb like he's inside a fish tank.
• Sir Warp additionally calls Goku "you fool!" when telling him to not call him a goldfish.
• In a writing move straight from 1997, in the Funi dub Kaioshin tells Goku to "please lay off the goldfish cracks".
• In the Toei subs, Kaioshion says "Goku-san, please be quiet!". In the Funi dub he says "Let me do the talking, Goku!", which doesn't work as well considering Glorio does the talking afterwards.
• In the Funi dub, Kaioshin says "I don't remember there being anything like that back when I came here", which contradicts Episode 10 where it was heavily implied that Kaioshin never returned to the Demon Realm after he left. In the Toei subs, he simply says "There didn't used to be a pin number".
• In the Funi dub, Glorio has a pause before he says "...is comprised of three worlds". This allows that dialogue to be over the shot of the three Demon World hatches, making their function a touch clearer to the audience.
• In the Toei subs, Glorio says that only "palace members of the First Demon World" can use Sir Warp (casting further suspicion on Glorio). In the Funi dub, Glorio says that the hatch to the First Demon World needs "access through the palace". This contradicts Episode 14, as the Sir Warp instance in the First Demon World is quite far away from the palace.
• In a rarity, the Funi dub's explosion of the Demon Realm Tunnel by Kaioshin is almost exactly the same as the Toei subs. You'd think this would be standard given that you can't see Kaioshin's mouth during it, but Funimation frequently re-words these anyway.
• During the Tunnel exposition, Glorio mentions that only "select members of the Second Demon World" can use Sir Warp. This likely refers to Neva.
• In the Funi dub of Glorio's Tunnel exposition, he spitefully adds "Most of us are stuck wherever we start out".
• In the Funi dub, when Goku struggles to recall Glorio's name he refers to him as "Pilot Guy".
• In the Toei subs, Glorio says "...many Glind used to live in the Second Demon World". However in the Funi dub, he says "Your kind's stuck to the Second Demon World", which contradicts the later reveal that the Glind had fully abandoned the Demond Realm.
• The Funi dub increases the volume of Glorio's shots destroying the rocks, sounds that were oddly quiet in Toei's audio mix.
• In the Funi dub, Glorio abbreviates the initially proposed price of the rooms to "30 G's"; a similar version for us would be "30 grand".
• In the Funimation dub, the hotel owner doesn't mention that he's the only one in the region.
• In the Toei subs, Goku says "I'll take five!" when it comes to his hamburgers. In the Funi dub, he says the more alarming "Let's start with five!"
• After Goku asks the majin to attack him all at once in the Funi dub, the first majin to attack him calls him a "cocky little round-ear", an effective slur.
• In the Funi dub, Goku's yell before and during his final punch is higher-pitched, sounding more like Clinkenbeard than Nadolny. KBABZ theorizes that Clinkenbeard may have done an initial dub, or provided this yell in lieu of Nadolny for scheduling reasons.
• In the Funi dub, Glorio says "Where's the plane?", spoiling what happened a few seconds earlier than in the Japanese original.

Dub Trivia - Episode 4

Spoiler:

• The take of Gomah saying "Where's the plane?" is the same as the one from Episode 3, just at a higher volume.
• In Toei's subtitles, Goku asks "You can all fly, right?", since he hasn't seen Glorio fly at this point in the show. In the Funi dub, however, he says "Easier than walking, too!", which assumes that Glorio can fly.
• Funimation keep up their rather annoying habit of never referring to ki as "ki", instead dancing around it by using euphemisms like "energy". This is a shame, as the aftermath of the ogre attack would have been the perfect opportunity to properly introduce the term.
• In the Toei subs, the rest stop woman calls Goku's meal "our highly recommended dish". In the Funi dub however, she calls it "our biggest seller". This makes little sense, as most majin are content with drinking water and have no need to eat actual food, meaning any dish would be their lowest seller! The only explanation KBABZ can think of is that majin can eat, but only do so for the pleasure of it.
• Bizarrely, Goku precedes eating the lizard with "Rub-a-dub-dub!!" in the Funimation... dub. In the Toei subs, he says "Time to eat". It's even more confusing because Nadolny appropriately said "thank you for this meal" back in Episode 2, a much better translation of "itadakimasu". >_<
• In the Funi dub, Goku reacts to the herbal honey as "Yucky!", while the Toei subs use the more descriptive "Bitter!".
• The Funi dubtitles refer to the rest-stop lady as "drive-in woman", despite the facility not appearing to have any parking or other vehicle services to suggest this.
• Earlier in this episode, Glorio says that the group will "have to keep walking until they find a better option" for their plane. This becomes rather clunky at the rest stop, where Kaioshin repeats this phrasing exactly, which obscures to the audience that he's asking about better transportation.
• In the Toei subs, the rest-stop man says "I haven't got anything that valuable", indicating that they're not very well-off. This is obscured in the Funi dub, where he instead says "Well, we certainly ain't got a spare plane for ya,".
• In the Funi dub, Glorio additionally states that the Sky Seed "doesn't get us there either", which helps reinforce his argument for a lower price.
• Glorio also raises his voice, shouting "Guess we should move on!", possibly done to explain why the rest-stop man can even hear him.
• After picking up the Revive Bug, in the Toei subs Goku says "What's it doin' here?", while in the Funi dub he says "Guess it ate too much candy".
• The Funimation dub takes a cue from the Japanese version by using onomatopoeias for the names of the two Medi Bugs that were named that way: Achichi / Yow-ow-ow Bugs for burns, and Zutsu / Urrrgh Bugs for headaches.
• The Funimation dub doesn't mention that join Bugs only fuse the consumers together "for a while", accidentally implying that the process is permanent like with Potara fusions.
• In the Funi dub, Goku mis-speaks Glorio's name twice the same way, just as in the Toei subs (in Funi's case, it's "Gordito").
• Aaron Dismuke provides a slightly more expressive take on Glorio's performance compared to Kōki Uchiyama in the original Japanese version.
• In the Toei subs, the rest stop lady tells Goku and Kaioshin to "hold onto [Glorio] in front!". In the Funi dub, she says "give [the Sky Seed] a big ol' hug!", which is more accurate to what the two actually do in response to her instruction.
• Veronica Laux' performance as the English Panzy is noticeably lower-pitched than Fairouz Ai in Japan. While we can only speculate, this is perhaps to emphasize her age of 82 more clearly than in the Japanese version, as opposed to her much younger physical appearance.
• The rest stop man says "one!" slightly sooner after saying "two!", allowing for a more dramatic pause before she launches the Sky Seed.
• The Funimation dubtitles forget to capitalize "Sea of Darkness" in Glorio's line during the Sky Seed's descent.
• In Toei's subs, Glorio says "There's no need to find them. Everyone knows where they are". In the Funi dub, he instead says "Not like you'd have to go looking for them. They're still where they've always been", no longer mentioning the broader Demon Realm populace. This does admittedly justify Goku's confused reaction, at least.
• After learning how the Demon World Dragon Balls work, Kaioshin says "Is that correct?" in Toei's subs. In the Funi dub meanwhile he says "Is that how it works here?", giving him a more obvious unfamiliarity with the Demon Realm Dragon Balls, and implying that Neva created them after the Glind left.
• In Toei's subs, after Goku says he wants to gather the Demon Realm Dragon Balls, Glorio says "You can't" before explaining that nobody has ever had a wish granted. In the Funi dub, he more appropriately says "Good luck", with sarcasm.
• In Toei's subs, Kaioshin says "You can't, Goku-san" to Goku wanting to get the Dragon Balls. In the Funi dub, he says "This isn't the time, Goku", which is slightly more supportive of Goku's idea.
• The Funimation dub inverts Goku's proposed use for the Demon Realm Dragon Balls:
  • In the Toei subs, he says "If we get the Dragon Balls and make a wish while goin' to rescue Dende, we can become grownup again!", meaning his plan is to use the Demon Realm Dragon Balls to turn back into adults to assist with Dende's rescue.
  • In the Funi dub, he says "If we gather all three of the Dragon Balls, then we can use our wish to help us rescue Dende. We'll turn ourselves back into grown-ups later!", altering his plan to be more self-sacrificing. This also means that Glorio fully upholds Goku's plan, rather than adjusting it slightly.
• After Kaioshin asks if the water fountain Goku is drinking from is safe, Glorio says "I think so" in Toei's subs, but gives the more comedic "Probably...?" in the Funi dub.
• While explaining Gomah's updated Gold Coin taxes, the Gendarmerie unit leader says the rather clunky "And thus accordingly, as of this moment," in the Funi dub.
• After the blue majin has some of his lifespan extracted, in the Funi dub he has a lower-pitched voice to emphasize him getting older as a result.
• The Funi dub goes for the pun when Panzy throws her Wasabi Bomb, where she shouts "Have a taste!"
• The Gendarmerie unit leader adheres to the Toei subtitles by referring to the disguised Panzy with the gender-neutral "them" pronoun, since he doesn't currently know the assailant's gender.

Dub Trivia - Episode 5

Spoiler:

• In the Toei subs, Panzy's response to Goku saying he got strong through training is "Excuse me?", followed by Goku poorly explaining how that could work for a kid. In the Funi dub, she responds with the rather ludicrous "What's training?", meaning in the dub Panzy has literally never heard of training before.
• The Gendarmerie unit leader gives him men "new orders" in the dub, implying that Goku's attack has diverted them from sapping the lifespan of that town.
• Amusingly, the Gendarmerie unit leader describes Goku as "that kid with the impossible haircut" in the dub. In the Toei subs, he says "a spikey-haired kid".
• Panzy says that she has "a rice ball", although we never actually see it outside of the wrapping. KBABZ still finds this amusing given the infamous 4Kids dub of Pokémon where Brock claims his rice ball is a "jelly doughnut".
• Sadly, in the Funimation dub Goku gives his name to Panzy as "Goku", rather than "Son Goku". While this is how he gives it in the Toei subs, this scene would have been a great opportunity to introduce it to modern audiences. It's also odd because he introduces himself this way during his Super Saiyan speech to Frieza in Kai, again in DBZ: Kakarot, and both SS Goku and Goku (GT) give their full names in the Dragon Ball FighterZ character select screen.
  • Because Coleen Clinkenbeard voiced Kid Goku in FighterZ, this means that Nadolny has yet to say Goku's full name in an official Dragon Ball work.
• In the Funi dub of this episode, Goku mis-speaks Glorio's name as "Gordito", "Gorillo" and "Guerrero". The latter is one of the Mexican states, and so it may be a slight nod to Dragon Ball's extreme popularity in that country as a whole.
• In the Toei subs, at the sight of the giant skeleton Goku says "Whoa! What the heck is this?". In the Funi dub he says "What the heck? That thing is gigantic!", making it clearer he's referring to the skeleton.
• In the shot of Panzy pointing to the top of the hill, she's inaudible in the Toei version, while the Funimation dub adds her saying "Look".
• In the Toei subs, Glorio says they'll "borrow a plane", while in the Funi dub he says the less definitive "Hopefully, he'll lend us a plane".
• In the Funimation subtitles, several characters have "5A" at the end of their names, including "Female Caretaker 5A", "Male Majin Guard 5A", "Male Majin Subordinate 5A", "Male Weak Majin Warrior 5A", and "Male Kadan's Minion 5A". In the crude scene of King Kadan ordering his men to steal a plane, the men are "Majin Subordinates 5B / 5C / 5D".
• In the Toei subs, Goku says the rather redundant "Is this Kadan Castle?" despite having been introduced to it in a previous scene. The Funi dub massages this a bit by having Goku say "So this is Kadan Castle, huh?"
• In the Funimation dub, Glorio says that King Kadan is expecting him, something he doesn't say in the Toei subs.
• In dubbing Nozawa's "Ossu!", the Funimation script has Nadolny greet the castle guards with "wassup?", a suitably informal equivalent.
• The Funi dub version of King Kadan makes a pun by asking Goku for a "demon-stration" of his strength.
• In the Toei subs, Panzy says that "it's not like there's anything special" in Kadan Castle. In the Funi dub, she complains that it's "way too normal", "never anything interesting going on", and even "lame". This was possibly done to more clearly explain why she's so eager to join Goku and co. on their journey. Both have her state that there's nobody "really scary" / "to be afraid of" there.
• In the Funi dub, Panzy says that Goku took out the Gendarmerie "alone", which she doesn't do in the Toei subs.
• In the Funi dubtitles, when King Kadan explains that he sent Glorio for help to defeat Gomah, his dialogue is incorrectly attributed to Panzy.
• In the Toei subs, King Kadan calls Gomah a villain, but in the Funi subs he calls him a "little menace", making Kadan's morality a bit more ambiguous.
• When telling Goku that he can marry Panzy if he wins, Kadan has a more neutral tone in the Funi dub, compared to the more temptuous tone in Naomi Kusumi's performance in the Toei version.
• In the Funi dub, Panzy asks in shock if Saiyans look like kids forever. Fans of Trunks, Goten and Pan would be tempted to say "Yes".
• Kaioshin says that Glorio "came to our universe" to turn him and Goku into children. As implied in Episode 10, this reflects that Kaioshin considers himself more at home in the Living Realm of Universe 7 than he does to his former home in the Second Demon World.
• In Toei's subs, Goku says that fighting Kadan's men will "be fine. It'll be good trainin'". In the Funi dub meanwhile, he says that "It'll be fun. And that's something", changing what he'll get out of the fight.
• In the Funi dub, Goku namedrops Kami's Lookout as he describes what it is to Hybis, which he doesn't do in Toei's subs.
• In Toei's subs Hybis says "A Majin going to a temple...", while in the Funi dub he says "So you're sending a demon to a temple" to make the gag clearer.
• In the Funi dub, Panzy refers to her father's provided plane as a "jalopy", a slang term to refer to a car of rather poor quality / condition.
• In the Funi dub, the way Glorio delivers the line "It's Glorio, and not particularly" makes it sound like Glorio is not particularly his name!
• After Panzy officially joins the Dragon Team, King Kadan says "Oh well" in Toei's subtitles. In the Funi dub however he feels the opposite, telling Goku "I'll hold you to that" (in reference to him promising to keep Panzy safe).
• In the Toei subs, Kaioshin whispers to Goku that Glorio "is definitely hiding something". In the Funi dub he outright says that Glorio "is deceiving us", and later that Glorio "was lying to us from the start", making Glorio feel like a bigger threat.
• In the Toei subs, King Kadan and his crew say "Take care!" as the plane takes off, while in the Funi dub, they don't say anything.
• In the Funi subs, Panzy is surprised that Goku doesn't know that the Third Demon World is the biggest of the three, despite learning that Goku was from the outside world back in the throne room.
• Episode 5 is the first time strong language is used in Daima's Funi dub, where Panzy says "Uh, that was the engine crapping out!" as their plane falls from the sky. "Crap" is a much stronger curse word in the UK.
• In the Funi dub, Panzy says the plane being old may be why the plane's engine gave out after she overloaded it.

The Neva-Kaioshin-DaimaDBs-Nameless Namekian trivia makes my head hurt. I'm surprised there are so many contradictions in such a short anime. I don't think I fully see/understand the whole picture.
I guess it's possible that the namekians created the DBs without knowing Neva was creating his own set back home. If it's all just happening in the span of a thousand years, perhaps there's a possibility that some namekian called Zalama existed way before them. It's just that Neva is so powerful that he seemed like the source of it all.

There's another trivia I haven't seen anywhere, revelead by Iyoku Akio (I think), about the red katakana letters on the title episodes. There's some type of hidden message in them, apparently. This is what I wrote down up to the 14th episode: BO-GU-DA-BE-JI-TSU-BI-GA-ZO-BA-DE-CHI-ZU-BU.

Yeah haha. I have a timeline of the Demon Realm that merges the information we know about it and its inhabitants (so Namekians and Glind) thus far. I was gonna post it this week, but considering lore dumps are one of Daima's hallmarks, I've decided to save it until the final episode so that everything is in order.

For me the thing with Neva creating the Dragon Balls is that all it does is reduce the timescale in which the Namekians left and made their own. Considering how long-lived majin tend to be, it would then make sense that Piccolo (and the Grand Elder) would speak of Katatz in a "recent history past-tense" sort of way, because it wouldn't have been that long ago.

It does however seem like Daima has all of these lore expansions that work on their own, but weren't considered as a whole. I doubt anyone on the story team actually wrote them all down in a timeline to check that all worked with each other!

Spoiler:

• Episode 1 - Neither Gomah nor Degesu make note of the giant honking "M" on Dabura's forehead when viewing the recap of the Boo Arc.
• At the end of Daima's OP, Goku fires a Kamehameha directly at the camera, the light of which turns into one of the suns of the Third Demon World. This mirrors the end of GT's OP, where it becomes the Earth instead.
• In addition to not translating the OP and ED lyrics, Crunchyroll's closed captions also don't bother translating the episode names in the title card, leaving it up to the viewer to remember it from the episode selection menu (which doesn't happen if they have Autoplay enabled).
• Episode 6 - Panzy states that the plane crashed because it has too much cargo. However Cargo died in his debut episode and has no known duplicates. ()
• Episode 6 - Kaioshin admits that he doesn't get paid as part of his role, which Panzy says makes no sense. To be fair, there doesn't appear to be any need for money in Other World!
• Episode 6 - Ep 6 is the first instance in Daima of Nozawa saying "Thank you!" but the Toei subs saying "Thanks!", which becomes a recurring habit in the show.
• Episode 6 - In the wide shot of the Dragon Team's crashed plane (implied to be from the perspective of the Gendarmerie plane), Goku isn't visible from the bush. This would mean he's taking a poo underneath its leaves, explaining why the Gendarmerie don't spot him on their approach.
• Episode 6 - The interior of the Dragon Team's plane in this episode has the same interior layout as the one stolen for Hybis in the middle of the show.
• Episode 6 - Kaioshin states to the Gendarmerie that he's from the Second Demon World. While this is factually accurate, as revealed in Episode 10 the Glind had completely evicted the Demon Realm. It's hard to believe that the Gendarmerie wouldn't find this suspicious, and may in fact be the reason they were confronted in the next episode.
• Episode 6 - Also suspicious is that they're all from different Demon Worlds, which is incredibly unlikely given the Tunnel shields and Sir Warp requiring PIN codes.
• Episode 6 - Unlike Oolong in Dragon Ball, Goku doesn't make any noise when taking a dump in the bushes.
• Episode 6 - Kaioshin suggests Goku use something to tie his hair down, which Goku is skeptical will work. He's forced to try this in Episode 9, which is of course unsuccessful due to how itchy it is.
• Episode 6 - In his initial exposition, Kaioshin describes only a singular "Glind Tree", but when Goku asks about if other Glind are siblings, Kaioshin corrects him with the five Glind Trees reveal.
• Episode 6 - Goku mentioning the "Old Supreme Kai" is the only time Old Kai is alluded to in Daima, and he otherwise makes no appearance in the show (at least up to Episode 18).
• Episode 6 - The pyramid-shaped drinking cartons make an early cameo around Goku at the campsite. The Gendarmerie Force are later seen drinking from them in Episode 14.
• Episode 6 - The lantern that's used while the Dragon Team sleep at the cave looks like a lava lamp, much like the life-collecting device from the town in Episode 4.
• Episode 6 - After the Dragon Team are asleep (sans Glorio), there's no bed or sleeping bag for Glorio.
• Episode 6 - Before trying to turn Super Saiyan as a kid for the first time, Goku looks at his hand. He'll do the same thing after he transforms to Super Saiyan 4 for the first time in Episode 18.
• Episode 6 - The shot of Goku dropping out of Super Saiyan is the first time it's been depicted with Goku's half-outlined eyes and pointed eyebrows. Super Saiyan has traditionally has been depicted with full eye outlines and thicker eyebrows, tying into Toriyama's design trait of giving bad characters these features (best expressed with Blue and Yellow Lunch).
• Episode 6 - While Glorio asks about the Super Saiyan transformation, he doesn't ask about Goku's teleportation. It's possible that he assumes they're part and parcel (which isn't the case of course, Goku's done it in his base form numerous times).
• Episode 11 - Neva being revealed to be the creator of the Demon Realm Dragon Balls (stated to be the "original set" by Glorio) contradicts the lore established in Dragon Ball Super. There, a mysterious being named Zalama (stated outright to be Super Shenron in the Funi dub) created the planet-sized Super Dragon Balls, and they are described as the original ones.
  • Further, in Dragon Ball Super the Namekian Dragon Balls were created from chunks of the Super Dragon Balls. In Daima however, Demon Realm Porunga and Namek Porunga have similar designs, implying that the Namekians made their set based on Neva's example instead.
  • Super's lore means that the Namekian Dragon Balls are the only ones stated to have been made from an existing material at some point, which neither the Demon Realm nor Earth Dragon Balls seem to be (or at least, it's never been mentioned).
• Episode 11 - Neva's reveal that you need to know Namekian to summon Porunga adds another reason why Gomah opted to gather Earth's Dragon Balls over the Demon Realm's, as it's unlikely that he'd know the Namekian language to make a wish, let alone the password needed to summon the dragon god in the first place.
• Episode 15 - The Hat that Hybis gets from the majin lady is essentially an upside-down Devo hat.
• Episode 16 - Degesu clearly doesn't know how to hold a baby: he doesn't support Dende's head when picking him up, resulting in Dende immediately waking up and crying. This is VERY NOT RECOMMENDED when handling babies, as their necks are too weak to support their heads for the first few months, and could result in injuries.
• Episode 16 - We never actually see Gaimai (the largest Gendarmerie Force member) fighting, as Captain Kadem steps up immediately after Gaimai points out how strong an opponent Vegeta is. Soon after that, he's captured!
• Episode 16 - Degesu states that it's in a Glind's nature to seek higher positions. This may be him blowing his own trumpet, as Nahare states in Episode 6 that Degesu didn't get along well with other Glind due to his ambitions.
• Episode 16 - After catching Dende, Panzy says "he's eerily cute!". Dende is only the third Namekian she's ever seen, after Piccolo and Neva, hence her reaction to baby Dende.
• Episode 17 - As part of his transformation, Gomah tosses away his staff upon receiving the Third Eye, and later his cape evaporates during the transformation itself.
• Episode 17 - Despite Marba saying Arinsu adding saliva will make the Majin Brothers more obedient, they have a habit of acting against her wishes, like Coo introducing himself first and Doo chasing after a butterfly.
• Episode 17 - Doo repeatedly slamming Goku into the ground is visually similar to the iconic moment in The Avengers, when The Hulk (also green) repeatedly slams Loki into the floor of Stark Tower. "Puny god."
• Episode 17 - The shot of Kaioshin, Piccolo and Glorio flying past the camera and doing an action right in front of it is quite similar to a shot from GT's Dan Dan intro of Goku, Pan and Trunks flying past the camera doing cool poses whilst right in front of it.

• Daima Episode 18 is the first time Katsuyoshi Yamamuro has been the Chief Animation Supervisor for a mainline Dragon Ball series since GT, where he did all of Episodes 36–64. Prior to that, he had the role on three Z episodes: 216, 229, and 245. He also had this role for many episodes of the promotional spinoff anime, Super Dragon Ball Heroes, the last one being Episode 44, airing in October 2022.
• The official description for Episode 18 has a spelling error, saying Goku and his companions "stuggle" against the power of the Third Eye. We've corrected it above.
• The episode's description, starting with "King Gomah enters the battlefield", makes it sound like it's recapping the previous episode. Thus you could be forgiven for assuming that "an amazing new power" is referring to Super Saiyan 3 at the start, not SS4!
• It also alludes to Neva awakening "an amazing new power" within Goku. At the time Daima Episode 18 aired (February 14th, 2025), Super Saiyan 4 was 28 years and three weeks old, debuting on January 29th, 1997 in GT Episode 35 (and having been seen in the intro before even that).
• Dragon Ball Daima is the first time Super Saiyan 4 has debuted in a major anime without being spoiled by its own intro, with GT debuting it in Episode 27, eight episodes / two months before it'd appear in the show proper. However this still isn't as bad as Dragon Ball Kai: The Final Chapters, which spoils literally everything that happens in the Boo Arc!
• The opening shot of this episode, of Gomah declaring his title, is from the start of Gomah's fight, not the most recent point at the end of Episode 17.
• A shot of Tamagami Number One jumping into the frame mis-times the jump sound effect, playing it much too late.
• Third Eye Gomah's footsteps use the same sound effect as Freeza, Cell, and several of GT's Evil Dragons. Due to his immense size however, Third Eye Gomah's footsteps have a much bigger "thud" to go alongside them.
• Episode 18 has a similar structure to the debut of Super Saiyan 4 in GT, where Super Saiyan 3 is utterly ineffective in the newest post-Boo villain and Goku is defeated, leading to him ascending to Super Saiyan 4 with some allied assistance. However in GT, this process took seven episodes, not helped by Goku playing Parcheesi and then grinding coffee with Old Kaioshin and Kibitoshin.
  • The above is also similar to Battle of Gods (which takes place later on relative to Daima), when Super Saiyan 3 Goku is utterly ineffective on Beerus (the newest post-Boo villain), leading to him ascending to Super Saiyan God with some allied assistance (six other Saiyans, in this case).
• In GT, Goku went from his base form, to Golden Oozaru, and then to Super Saiyan 4, making SS4 feel like more of a "side-step" compared to Super Saiyan 1-3. In Daima, Goku gets to SS4 whilst in SS3, and Third Eye Gomah regresses him from SS4 down to SS3, making SS4 feel like a linear step up from the preceding three forms.
• Super Saiyan 3 Goku lands the first proper melee hit on Third Eye Gomah, who didn't receive one in the entire previous episode.
• The water symbolism for Goku's Super Saiyan 4 transformation was alluded to in Daima's intro: water appears after the shot of the marker stick with the blue ribbon, appearing over the close-ups of Goku, Bulma / Panzy, and Glorio.
• Part-way during the Super Saiyan 4 transformation, Goku appears in all-white, with his iris turning red, giving him a very similar look to Gohan's Super Saiyan Beast form in the Super Hero movie. It's also similar to Goku's first transformation to Super Saiyan 3, where a frame of animation of Goku regressing from an Oozaru to a child looks rather similar to Super Saiyan 4, complete with an extra-long tail.
• Goku's first action with the Super Saiyan 4 transformation is a reversal of his fight with Pure Boo: this time, it's Goku who's on the ground and catches giant ki orb of the villain, then forces it back at him.
  • This is also the inverse of Goku deflecting Baby's Revenge Death Ball, where Goku didn't act at all and completely tanked the attack head-on.
• Super Saiyan 4's physical appearance has been given some tweaks for the Daima version:
  • Goku's hair is no longer black, but the same colour as his fur. This is a trait taken from SS4 Gogeta that also gives SS4 a similar appearance to Super Saiyan God. In KBABZ's opinion, this change really helps unify SS4's design to be less visually cluttered.
  • The hair is also a touch shorter, going about halfway down Goku's pectorals rather than all the way down them.
  • Another trait taken from SS4 Gogeta are black eye outlines rather than red.
  • Goku's eyes are also the same pink-red colour as his fur, rather than yellow as in GT.
  • Goku's upper section is slightly enlarged, as well as his hands and wrists, giving him slightly more ape-like proportions.
  • The points of fur over Goku's pectoral and abdominal muscles have been made much larger and more prominent.
  • Rather than the fur extending over the wrists, the fur instead no longer covers the underside of the wrists.
  • The transformation additionally removes Goku's belt, revealing the actual waistband of his pants.
  • The tail is significantly shorter compared to GT, being about half its length.
  • The tail is also integrated into the design of the trousers. In GT's version, it's visibly burst and torn through the material.
  • While not a change as such, Goku is still wearing his traditional orange gi's trousers. In GT these were yellow, which stood out a lot more strongly in Super Saiyan 4 form since he didn't have the blue tunic over the top.
  • The last alteration is that SS4's proportions affect Goku's movement and fighting style: he tends to move with his palms open rather than clenched, he grips around the rock spire rather than flies, he swings on Gomah's leg using his tail, and he runs along a rock spire on all fours.
• Goku staring at his tail is rather appropriate, as the last time he had it was after defeating Piccolo Daimao 22 years earlier.
• The shot of Goku staring at his hands after transforming to Super Saiyan 4 mirrors Episode 6, where Goku looks at his hand before trying Super Saiyan as a kid for the first time.
• While Super Saiyan 4 is old news (description be damned), this is the first time that Goku has ever used the form whilst in the body of a child. In GT, the transformation always temporarily overrode Pilaf's wish to Ultimate Shen Long, giving Goku an adult body to accommodate the form's power.
  • This has amusing implications given that, in GT, Ultimate Shen Long was specifically stated to be far more powerful than the original Shen Long, yet Super Saiyan 4 still overrode the wish. This suggests that the SS4 of Daima is not as powerful as the GT version is!
  • This also means that Daima Episode 18 will be the first time Stephanie Nadolny will voice Super Saiyan 4 Goku, as the adult part of the transformation in GT always meant the voice switched to Sean Schemmel!
• Episode 18 does not have anyone refer to Super Saiyan 4 by name, much like Super Saiyan 2 was in the Cell Arc (Super Saiyan 3 wasn't named in its debut either, but it was easily inferred due to the Super Saiyan levels conversation Goku had with Boo). This is in contrast to GT, where Old Kai immediately declares and names the form.
  • As it happens, Super Saiyan 2 and 3 aren't called out by name in Daima either. Only Super Saiyan 1 is, exactly once: after Goku's fight with Glorio in Episode 6!
• Episode 18 is the first Daima episode to use only ONE of the eyecatches!
• The glow outline around SS4 Goku first appears when he clenches his fist after pushing back Gomah's ki ball, then disappears once he takes off to fight Gomah proper. The glow outline then briefly re-appears after Goku skates on the side of a rock spire, to throw his huge ki attack at Gomah to end that bout.
• Gomah's unique mouth design (pink rubber hose, for lack of better phrasing) is identical to the Three and Four-Star Dragons from GT, whom Goku also fought with Super Saiyan 4.
• Super Saiyan 4 Goku lands an identical strike as the SS3 form earlier in the episode, giving Third Eye Gomah a gut punch.
• The two shots of the rocks being ripped up from the ground is reused from Episode 17, when Third Eye Glorio starts the fight after Tamagami Number One shows up.
• Episode 18 is the first time Glorio has been seen charging up his ki.
• The shot of Goku firing a Kamehameha directly at the camera is an upside-down version of the second-to-last shot of GT's second OP animation.
• The Super Saiyan 4 of Daima uses a fire / water contrast as part of its symbolism. This is reflected in Goku's Kamehameha, with the blue of Goku's ki beam representing the water, surrounded by the orange fire.
• It's especially noticeable in this episode that any time the Evil Third Eye glows purple, and / or a power uses the colour purple, it's the Third Eye allowing Gomah to do magic that he normally couldn't. It's implied that it's doing this every time Gomah is overwhelmed, giving him a boost / power to succeed. The instances where the Third Eye does this are:
  • When SS3 Goku and Tamagami Number One overpower him, giving Gomah the ki beam.
  • When SS4 Goku gut-punches Gomah, snapping Gomah out of his shock.
  • When SS4 Goku fully overpowers Gomah, making him kaiju-sized.
• Super Saiyan 4 Goku appropriately has four lines in this episode, being "Here I go!", "Kamehameha!", "S-Seriously?!" and "Darn it!".
• When Third Eye Gomah forces Goku out of Super Saiyan 4 to SS3, his shirt magically re-appears, much as it did in GT. This is also similar to Super Saiyan 3 restoring the user's eyebrows once they exit that form.
• When Third Eye Gomah reverts Goku down to his base form, Goku jumps from SS3 to SS1, skipping over SS2. This continues Daima's habit of never truly highlighting when Goku has ascended up to / dropped down from Super Saiyan 2, leaving it up to the viewer to identify it via its signature lightning sparks.
• The Demon Realm Dragon Balls don't glow when they're close to each other or gathered together. This was an early element of the Earth Dragon Balls dating as far back as the very first chapter / episode (Goku's Four-Star Ball glows as Bulma approaches), but was dropped later on in the series.
• Arinsu's plan with the Demon Realm Dragon Balls is somewhat similar to Vegeta's with the Namekian set: when things get desperate, they conspire to make a wish on themselves in order to defeat an utterly overwhelming opponent.
• Similar to Vegeta's plan above, Arinsu's wish to become Supreme Demon King wouldn't actually make her any stronger. Fortunately, Arinsu later elaborates her wish to "Make me Supreme Demon King with the greatest magic power", which would put her above Third Eye Gomah.
• In Glorio's flashback shots, the shot of Goku falling to Third Eye Gomah is somewhat fabricated, as Goku fell whilst in some form of Super Saiyan before that point.
• Unless Glorio was able to learn Namekian ridiculously fast (or it's that easy to learn), the fact that Arinsu taught him how to speak Namekian implies that he was under her employ for much longer than was apparent at the start of the arc.
  • It also implies that him eavesdropping on Gomah, Degesu and Arinsu back in Episode 1 was him acting independently of Arinsu!
• The Porunga of the Demon Realm Dragon Balls is the first dragon god to have an identical name to another dragon god (the Namek Porunga, obviously). It's also the first to have an identical summoning password, too!
  • For clarity, we'll refer to him as "Demon Realm Porunga". KBABZ errs away from "Ultimate Porunga" because, despite the size and colours being a lot like GT's Ultimate Shen Long, nobody has called him that, and at this time we don't know if he has any limits to his granting of wishes.
• Demon Realm Porunga is traditionally animated for almost his entire appearance. The only exception would be his opening shot, which at the very least is assisted with a 3D model.
  • The above may be because Demon Realm Porunga is the first dragon god to physically interact with someone, by flicking Gomah away. Shen Long was killed by Piccolo Daimao, but that was from range and admittedly a rather one-sided interaction.
• Continuing the link with GT, the Demon Realm Porunga is red, giving it an extreme resemblance to Ultimate Shen Long. They both have a red body, yellow underbelly, blue trim, glowing yellow eyes, and are extremely chonky boys.
• In Toei's subtitles, Bulma once again refers to Demon Realm Porunga as the "Planet Namek Shenron", after doing the same in Episode 11. It's derived from the Japanese name "Shen Long", meaning Dragon God, but Funi's "Shenron" lacks any such meaning. A better translation using Funi's naming conventions would be "Namek's eternal dragon".
• Demon Realm Porunga states that he shall grant any wish. Shen Long said exactly the same back in Episode 1, despite having many clauses that void such a claim. Currently it's unknown if Demon Realm Porunga has any limitations to his wish-granting, but given that Porunga can easily block Third Eye Glorio, KBABZ thinks this is unlikely.
• Demon Realm Porunga blocks Third Eye Glorio's attack with the OK gesture. The Namekian Porunga has used this sign before in the Boo Arc, but only in the anime; the gesture was not used in the original manga. He actually did it twice: once when restoring the planet Earth in Ep 283, and again when restoring Goku's strength in Ep 286. The latter is the one Demon Realm Porunga references specifically, as it's the more iconic one (but Demon Realm Porunga blocks with his right hand, so he combines the two!).
  
  • Missed Trivia: When Porunga gives the OK gesture in DBZ Ep 283, he has three fingers. In 286, he has four! Demon Realm Porunga goes with the latter, as it's the more iconic one.
• The fact that Demon Realm Porunga can block Third Eye Gomah and fend him off speaks to his strength relative to Shen Long, who was killed by the restored Piccolo Daimao.
  • It may also speak to the strength of Neva: Shen Long was exactly as powerful as the current God of Earth was, so if the same rule applies here, Neva is FAR more powerful than Third Eye Gomah is. Of course, Namekians must not use their power for conflict... Piccolo!
• Since the Kaiju-sized Third Eye Gomah is only as big as Demon Realm Porunga's hand, this means that Porunga is one of the largest Dragon Gods on record. It's second only to Super Shen Long of Dragon Ball Super, who's large enough to have eyeballs the size of entire galaxies.
• Gomah himself makes a critical mistake by trying to stop Demon Realm Porunga: had he gone to attack Glorio, he would have more effectively stopped him from making a wish.
• Nobody during this episode bothers searching for the pouch of Medi Bugs that Goku lost, including Vegeta who knows about this!

Dub Trivia - Episode 6

So, because of our schedules, and how we fell behind before, we've decided that KBABZ will solo the dub trivia from now on. So, this material is without any input from me; you'll probably spot dub names and such. However, she worked hard on this, as always, so don't overlook it.

Spoiler:

• In Toei's subs, Panzy says after the crash "Looks like it was just an error from too much cargo", which is a bit redundant as she said as much while the plane was falling. Funi's dub massages this with "Like I thought, the engine died 'cause we got too much cargo onboard".
• As expected, the Funi dub continues its use of "Supreme Kai" over "Kaioshin" when he explains his role in the dub.
• When explaining the Kai hierarchy, in the Funi dub Goku adds that he's "met a few of them [himself]".
• In the Funi dub, Kaioshin says that "it's complicated, but that's basically the gist of it". This acknowledges that Goku doesn't mention the Dai Kai and Dai Kaioshin (nor that Universe 7 used "cardinal" Kaioshin for a time), as well as the information we later learn about the Glind in Episode 10.
• Goku refers to Glorio as "Giorgio" in this episode. Being in English (which itself often mixes and overlaps many other languages), the Funi dub has been able to use different mis-pronunciations of Glorio's name, while the original Japanese is restricted to two.
• In the Funi dub, Glorio gives an example of how to pronounce his name, yet Goku struggles to say it. This contrasts the Japanese audio, where Glorio doesn't do this yet Goku says it perfectly (albeit with a stutter at the start). Reflecting this, in the Funi dub Glorio says "It'll get there...", while in Japanese he says "Very well".
• In the Funi dub, Goku refers to toilet paper as "TP". This may be because Goku calls it "paper" in the Japanese audio, meaning Funimation has to use the abbreviation to match the mouth movements ("toilet paper" having twice as many syllables as "TP").
• In the Funi dub, Panzy grunts as she throws the toiler paper at Goku's face, which she doesn't do in the Japanese version.
• The Funi dub has Goku say "Thanks!" like Toei's subtitles, instead of "Thank you!" like Nozawa's dialogue.
• Continuing the trend from Episode 5, Episode 6's English captions name a character "Male Gendarme 6A", when he disembarks the Gendarmerie ship.
  • Since Episode 5's minor roles were often "5A", this would be Funimation's VO terminology for the minor, un-named one-shot roles, with the number denoting which episode they appear in.
• "Male Gendarme 6A" may appear to be a mis-spelling, but a "Gendarme" is the word for a member of a Gendarmerie.
• In the Funi dub, Male Gendarme 6A additionally says "Answer me!" before Kaioshin can answer, making the Gendarmerie appear slightly stricter than the Toei original.
• When the second Gendarme asks Glorio if he's seen someone with Goku's description, in the Funi dub he takes a bit longer. This results in Glorio saying "No!" a lot sooner than in the Japanese version, making him come off a lot more suspiciously.
• In the Toei subs, Goku says "Whew! I feel much better!", while in the Funi dub, he says "Man, I feel so much lighter!".
• In the Toei subs, Panzy says "You were lucky. It looks like you're wanted". The Funi dub conveys her meaning a bit more clearly, saying "You got the heat on your tail! Picked the right time to go number two".
• While the Toei subs give it a proper "Glind Tree" name, in the Funi dub the captions spell it "Glind tree".
• When Goku asks if Kaioshin is a plant, he replies "I don't know about that" in the Toei subs, and "I'm... not sure..." in the Funi dub.
• Kaioshin corrects himself to refer to Arinsu as his "sibling" rather than "sister", to acknowledge that Glind don't really have genders. While this switch is present in the Japanese audio, the tone of Kaioshin correcting his pronoun usage is not: in the Funi dub Kaioshin says "E-er, sibling".
• The Funi dub says that Arinsu "also" chose the excitement of the Demon Realm. This implies that Degesu stayed behind for the same reasons, which the Japanese version doesn't do.
• In the Toei subs, Kaioshin says "Glinds don't have genders", while in the Funi dub, it's "we don't have genders the way you think of them".
• Funimation "punch up" the gag of the centipede meat, by adding Goku sayin "I dunno what this is, but I like it!", before the cut to the can of centipede meat.
• Rather than saying that he "currently live[s] in the First Demon World, in the Funi dub Glorio says that he "get[s] to live in the First Demon World", acknowledging that he's lucky to do so.
• In the Funi dub, Glorio begins his report to Arinsu that "It's all going smoothly", despite the fact that his first plane was stolen and the second one immediately crashed after take-off. Toei's subs meanwhile say "Things are working out".
• Goku gives another misnaming of Glorio: "Gazebo".
• In the Toei subs, Goku says "You're better than I thought", without highlighting that he stops holding his left arm behind his back. The Funi dub makes this clearer by having him say "Okay, maybe I will need both hands".
• The Funi dub places a bit of emphasis on Glorio's magic, changing "It's magic" to "My magic", and "I've never seen magic like that!" to "So, that's his magic. I've never seen anything like it!".
• After turning Super Saiyan, Nadolny drops the pitch of Goku's voice, mimicking this aspect of Nozawa's performance.
• The Funi dub does more-extensive-than-usual rewriting of the Minotaur making up excuses for not fighting Goku:
  • Toei subs: R-Right! Th-That's right! If you really want to be eaten that much, then I'll have you all for breakfast! Oh! Oh dear! I completely forgot! I killed a giant beast before going to bed and ate my fill! Now that I think about it, I'm full! You guys are really lucky! -stomach growls- W-Well then, back to bed I guess.
  • Funi dub: Well! If you folks insist. It is time for breakfast. Long as you're here I might as well make a meal outta ya. WAIT! Aw, heck! I had a monster dinner last night! Matter of fact, I'm still stuffed to the gills! I reckon I'm done eatin' for a while. That's the only reason y'all are still alove. Got no more room for ya in my bellyyy! -stomach growls- Fullest I ever been! Beg your pardon, I gotta go sleep this off. Hahaha, hahaha... haha...

LOVED this episode! I thought I wouldn't have a lot this week considering it's mostly fighting, but it turns out that debuting something really adds a lot, huh! I love all the little adjustments they made to unify the design.

I like the red hair, it never really made much sense to grow black hair and red hair at the same time. But visually, I prefer the original colours. I guess, if Gogeta is a thing, he'll have black hair.
The ape arms look good but I prefer the hairy hands.
No magic pants is good.
I'm ambivalent about the eyes, both, GT and Daima's look good to me.
I was hoping for a KHH... x10, though.

It took me way too long to realise the red Porunga was a nod to GT's Dark DB dragon

Arinsu's plan is the most flaw plan I think the franchise has ever produced. A so-called genius and xenophobe giving the final and most important task of learning a language and making the wish to a non-Glind? she deserves to be betrayed. How could she drop the ball like that and so close to the finish line?

Goku's eyes are also the same pink-red colour as his fur, rather than yellow as in GT.

The eyes are actually a sharper crimson red, which also resembles Super Saiyan God's colors. It's more noticeable in the design sheets that Ajay revealed, or when Goku uses his ki aura.

Another easily missed detail is Goku's long, pointy sideburns in this form.
