A Complaint

Post by Vino » Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:09 am

A Dragonball Kai episode was going to air, and I was making a thread for it, with the titles and everything, just like the other threads, but after a little while, my thread vanished.

I don't know why, but it seems that the admin deleted my thread, and created his own thread. I don't know why a normal member can't open a thread for an episode, but apparently its a problem for the admins.

I'm not trying to attack anyone, but I saw this as a childish act, since the admin could have moved my thread from the general section to the Kai section, but instead he chose to delete it.

Also unsticky some stickies, soon the whole page will be filled with them.

From the “Kai” section general rules:
- Don't help distribute copies of the show here.
- Don't ask where or how to see the show. Google. You'll figure it out.
- Subtitled versions are even worse.
- We haven't heard anything about a release outside Japan. We'll let you know when we do.
- Only moderators can start new topics in this sub-section.
- We will start a thread for each individual episode each week, in addition to the main general thread.

- If you think there's something new miscellaneous to add or say, start it elsewhere. We'll move the thread if appropriate.
- Follow all the regular rules, too.
- Support it however you can if and when you can if you so desire.
- We're walking a very fine line with this. Please respect that.

Its still doesn't really justify the reason why normal members can't open up episodes threads.

We can't have 2862 threads on the same episode.

Perhaps it would be a better idea to contribute to the discussion, instead of trying to pre-empt Mike or Julian, just so you can have your name next to a topic.

Here's an idea, start your own topic, share some thoughts, feelings or ideas!, anything is better than just spitting out an episode discussion template for the hell of it.

I wasn't trying to pre-empt anyone, and its not about my name next to the topic. I thought using their template would be better, so it won't look that different from the other topics. I guess you're right about contributing to the first post.

You didn't even have the correct episode number on your thread.

Yeah, I had to double check but I fixed the mistakes.

That's a lazy excuse. Sounds like the mods don't really want to do anything, so they disabled thread making.

Maybe if you spent more time contributing, and less time whining...?

Yeah. Harsh.

Think you nailed it.

Seriously. Is this a big deal? You put up a thread just a few moments before I had a chance to do it in the section that I do it every week in, you had no responses, etc.

Seriously? Really? C'mon, man.

So I need to contribute so the mods will do their job? interesting. I don't have to contribute anything, I don't need to shit for you in order to state my opinion on your rules.

It's not a big deal to me, but apparently its a big deal for you, since you took the trouble to actually delete my thread and make your own. I would have gotten responses if you kept my thread, instead of deleting it.

So... basically... you're just looking for justification for existing by having people respond to a thread with your name next to it. Right. Gotcha. Captain Awesome pretty much nailed it.

Again. Seriously. You had a thread with no responses. I was right there making my own. I don't want someone else's translations influencing our own in episode titles. You go and whine about it and make a big deal of it.

This is why people hate DBZ fans.

Booohooo really clever, "hate dragonball Z fans".

I don't really care about my name next to the thread, hell I even made the thread to save trouble for you, but then you say I don't contribute, yeah sure, seeing as it gets deleted, why should I contribute in the first place.

Responses? I don't cry about them, its you crying about me making a thread instead of you. :)

I kept your previous one because I was super-late in getting around to making it, it already had a few responses, and it didn't make sense to create a new one, split the old one off, combine them around, etc.

You started a thread for episode 11 minutes before I got around to it. It had no responses. I don't want someone else's romanizations and translations influencing our own. I deleted it and made my own like I do every other week.

I almost can't even comprehend how this is even an issue.

You threw a shit-fit and you asked why aaaaand you toss in random insults at the administrators. Ta-dah~. Here's your response. Sorry I answered...?

Am I missing something here, folks?

Saying something irrelevant like "Hate DBZ fans" doesn't really contribute to the issue.
I don't want someone else's romanizations and translations influencing our own.
So basically you just don't want other people to take away your spot light of the week of the thread opener, gotcha.
You threw a shit-fit and you asked why aaaaand you toss in random insults at the administrators. Ta-dah~. Here's your response. Sorry I answered...?
Random insults? I don't think so sir, I stated my opinion pretty good, and if you take "childish" as an insult, then all I have to say is lol.

Anyway, this thread doesn't go anywhere, and its just me and you having our little showdown, so I suggest you close it, since you're an admin and all.[/quote]

"Showdown?" :?

Vino: the rules for the subforum are that EX starts the new episode discussion threads and nobody else. You broke that rule. That's all there really is to it. It's not even a big deal to begin with. Please calm down.

I suppose you're right, I shouldn't have made an issue about it. -__-..

Sorry for complaining?

Close this thread please.

Man, you completely missed the point. How dare you make rules, make a weekly schedule of starting a thread, deleting an unnecessary thread, and then post a complaint about others posting on your forums (you started this topic, right?). I'm appalled! :D
Vino wrote:...but I saw this as a childish act...
Burn! Take that admins!
Vino wrote:That's a lazy excuse. Sounds like the mods don't really want to do anything, so they disabled thread making.
Ouch... and I agree. Mike is so lazy.
Vino wrote:So I need to contribute so the mods will do their job?
Yay, you took his words out of context! That always makes a good point and doesn't make anyone upset in the slightest.
Vino wrote:I would have gotten responses if you kept my thread, instead of deleting it.
But then easily confused people like me wouldn't know which one to post in...

I could keep going, but I think you get the point. You made a thread, it got deleted. It's not that big of a deal. I really don't know how this even warranted a thread after something like this happened once. I wish more people were good at putting themselves in someone else's shoes. Trust me, running a site like this isn't exactly a walk in the park, especially when you have a full time job. I don't see how telling someone that works really hard that they're lazy isn't insulting.

I also find it funny that when someone makes a thread to complain, they want the thread closed when no one agrees with them.

Ok, here's the point, Admins make those Threads, it's kinda their duty, people doing it for them is just more or less self gratification.

Like when certain people correct other peoples grammar and spelling in quotes and then make a song and dance of it. When you should really just tell them in a PM instead.

The thread didn't even need to be made by you, you could have just laid back and waited for the big guys to do it themselves.
You're making yourself out to be the victim of some sort of crime against the internet.

You seem like a pretty whiny individual. Let me inject a new perspective into this thread that may or may not end this conflict right here and now:

This is Mike's forum. As such, he dictates anything and everything occurs within it. He can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and for whatever reason he wants. You have no rights as a willing member of this forum; you follow his rules and his policies, or you know exactly where the door is if you don't like it. It's very simple.

People seem to have gotten the impression over the years that the laws and standards of whatever country they live in apply to the internet, or that they're entitled to some sort of certain treatment by the administration of a particular forum. The great thing about the internet is that you have the freedom of choice--you choose where to go on the internet, why you want to go there, and when you want to go there; nobody is stopping you. But wherever you choose to go, you're still under the totalitarian dictatorship that is the administration of that forum--period.

That said, what kind of issue is this? He made a thread; the rules outright say that normal members should not be making a thread, so he deleted yours--it was against the rules. I imagine that if your post was worth keeping around, it would have been. But it wasn't, and it didn't. Suck it up and focus your efforts on trying to improve the quality of your contributions instead of trying to uselessly justify how they were adequate, even though Mike outright said it wasn't.

Did that cover everything? Did I miss anything? Can we party now? :D
