What's The Best Fight In The Entire Series?

Post by Ultimate_DB_Fan » Thu Oct 15, 2009 12:32 am

Out of the show, even out of the movies, which battle do you guys think is the very best? Try to also explain why after making your decision.
Goku vs. Broli in movie 8?
Goku vs. Vegeta in the Boo arc?
Goku vs. Freeza?
You don't have to pick from these necessarily, I was just giving examples out of the plethora that exist.

I would have to go with Gohan vs. Cell

In the original manga: Either Goku vs Piccolo Jr at the 23rd Budokai, or Super Saiyan Goku vs Freeza on Namek.

In the anime-only: Super Saiyan 2 Goku vs Kid Buu, hands-down.

In the movies: I'd say either Goku and Piccolo vs Garlic Jr, or Goku vs Janemba.

In the TV specials: Bardock vs Freeza's elites.

In GT: Super Saiyan 4 Goku's one-sided "fight" with Bebi-Vegeta, before the latter transformed.

Psh, none of the fights will Brolli are even "fights". He bulldozes everyone again and again until, at the last moment, somebody pulls a victory out of their ass.

I think as far as battles are concerned, these are my favorites:

- Goku vs Jackie Chun (21st Tenkaichi Budoukai)

Reasoning: This is the first heavy-duty battle, and goes on for a while without ever really getting tiring. It's great to see Chun (Roshi) pull out moves and then Goku counters them. It's too bad Goku has shorter legs, or he would have won. But then again, maybe losing was what was best for him.

- Goku vs Kuririn (22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai)

Reasoning: Seeing Goku and Kuririn go at it was pretty great, and this is Kuririn at top form, or at least as good as he was ever going to look in combat.

- Goku vs Tenshinhan (22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai)

Reasoning: Another amazing final round, with both fighters going all out to win the battle. Though since Tenshinhan was already cheating without knowing it, I would have called this one unfair. He let Goku get a few free shots on him, but there was no way they hurt as much as the shots he was getting in when Chaozu was helping. Anyway, again, Goku loses, but due to a stupid little hitch. At least it makes him want to become even stronger.

- Goku vs Ma Junior (Piccolo) (23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai)

Reasoning: Probably my favorite battle in the whole manga/any of the shows. This was before things got too ki-heavy in DBZ, but there were some ki attacks, even pretty big ones. Nevertheless, there was also some great hand-to-hand combat, as well, and things got really brutal and desperate. Goku pulling off a win, saving the word at the same time as becoming champion, is one of the greatest moments in DB.

- Goku vs Vegeta (Saiyan Saga)

Reasoning: I like this battle because, frankly, Goku really isn't a match for Vegeta. He does frustrate him endlessly though, since Vegeta was expecting a quick win, and couldn't get it, forced to transform into his Oozaru form (though, actually, he probably could have won without it). Goku technically loses, but with the help of Kuririn and Gohan, Earth wins. This is another of those battles that has that sort of, "Oh crap, things are really getting desperate, we NEED to win here" feel to it, that feels geniune, and it's why the Saiyan arc is my second favorite.

- Goku vs Cell (Cell Games)

Reasoning: This is a really fast-paced battle (when it finally starts in the anime!), and the best part is, that Goku pretty much knows he isn't a match for Cell, and yet everybody else thinks he is. When he just gives up after a great fight, and calls Gohan in, it's another great moment.

- Gohan vs Cell (Cell Games)

Reasoning: Okay, so, technically, it's not such an awesome fight as far as techniques and exchange of combat damage. Cell spends most of his time trying to piss Gohan off, and when Gohan transforms, he pretty much dominates. It isn't until Cell returns from self-destruciton that it appears to be a real match, but then it's just a Kamehameha struggle. However, while not that varied, the magnitude of importance the events in it carry are enough to make this my favorite part in all of DB.

- Goku vs Vegeta (rematch) (Buu arc)

Reasoning: I love how creative Vegeta gets in this one, using those ki rings to bind Goku. And who doesn't love to see a rematch between Goku and Vegeta?

- Goku and Vegeta vs Kid Buu

Reasoning: I like this one because of Vegeta's attitude that Goku is "number one", his admission long in coming. They work as a team to subdue Buu, with Mr. Satan acting to help out, too. It's frustrating that, once again, Goku becomes the hero, but it's okay in the end, because at least it was a good fight.

I also am quite fond of the Coola fights. In the fifth movie, Coola flies through Goku's Kamehameha, comes up at the source, and punches him, one of my favorite moments in a DBZ movie. And watching Goku and Vegeta take on Metal Coola(s) is pretty fun, too.

Goku's fight with Janemba in movie 12 is probably the most creative battle in DBZ.

I would have put Goku vs Freeza on this list, because it is, at times, a truly amazing battle, but it is far too long and becomes a chore to watch at other times.

The victim of violent head trauma as an infant [...] he's a simple bumpkin with a fair share of brain damage who's natural talents to work out what's wrong compensate for his broad lack of common sense. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Goku vs. Ma Junior. No transformations, power-ups, or help from anyone else (or at least none that Goku didn't make sure was fully made up for, at any rate). Just two guys fighting each other until one of them goes down. It's one of the reasons I think the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai would have been the best ending point.

I'd say Goku's first fight with Tenshinhan is the best in the manga, but it's so filler-shitteriffic in the anime it'll have to pass the torch to Goku VS Vegeta at the end of the Saiyan arc.

Too...much...to choose from!!

The 'Ultimate fight' in the comic, I'd have to give up to Son Gokû v. Ma Junior. These guys kept beating the Hell out of each other in amazingly brutal ways, and somehow...it's still a fresh fight, no matter how many times I read it.

The 'toon...again, this is a hard one...I'm tempted to say the Majin Vegeta fight, but some of the animation and art is just terrible. Otherwise, some of the extentions to the Kid Majin Boo fight are great. Super Saiyan 2 Gokû and Kid Boo had some neat coreography and the art and animation were in top form. Then there's that odd 'Base Vegeta v. Kid Boo' fight where Vegeta transforms, flies to Gokû, powers down...then fights Boo in his base form when Super Saiyan 3 Gokû was fighting so hard he passed out. Truly odd.

Movies? Dang...I want to say the fights from Movie Two, collectively, but the Super Saiyan 3 fight with Janemba was also pretty good.

Let's do it! Top 10 style! And of course Hujio style, with pretty pictures!

Hujio Unveils His Top 10 Best DragonBall Fights!!! Will The Strategy Work?!

Image
#10 Goku & Piccolo vs Raditz - And Raditz thought he was hot shit, only to be beaten by a kid... I mean, Goku and Piccolo...

Image
#9 Yamcha vs Suke-san - Yamcha. An invisible guy. A pervert. A pair of chi chi's. What more could you ask for in a fight, besides integrity of course? All we're missing is some poop on a stick...

Image
#8 Goku vs Jackie Chun - A fight actually decided by a kick instead of a transformation... say goodbye to this.

Image
#7 Goku vs Piccolo Daimao - Well, what can I say? He's the Demon King for a reason, right?

Image
#6 Vegeta vs Majin Buu - It's a life changing event, literally.

Image
#5 Goku vs Freeza (Pre-SSJ Transformation) - Even though he's completely out-classed, the great Saiya-jin warrior fights on.

Image
#4 Piccolo vs Freeza - His Namekian pride finally shows up to save his people... and Gohan.

Image
#3 Goku vs Vegeta - It's a full-on Saiya-jin battle!

Image
#2 Gohan vs Majin Buu - A mystic bad-ass versus a pink demon thingy... sounds fair, right? You can just feel the punches, although it was annoying having to wait so long for a battle almost as good as my No. 1...

...drum roll...

Image
#1 Goku vs Ma Junior - Bitch please! It's epic! Period.

...and of course...

Image
#0 Vegeta vs Appule - Oh come on, someone had to do it! Do I even need to explain it?

A tie, between:

Goku vs. Jackie Chun

and

Vegeta vs. Goku, Gohan, Kuririn and Yajirobe.

Also, Dr. Wheelo vs. Goku, Gohan, Kuririn, Piccolo, and Kamesen'nin is the best of the movie fights.

I'm gonna do like Hujio, except I only have a top 5...

Image

#5 - Sure it's not a fight with hand to hand combat or ki blast, but I always loved this part of DragonBall. This is the end of the first arc. Goku has turned into a giant gorilla thing and is totally not giving a fuck what he smashes. The first time I saw this I was thinking "how the Hell is Bulma and everyone going to get out of this one" and "how the Hell is Goku going to get back to normal, are they gonna have to kill him"? Yes, I honestly thought they might have to kill him to stop him. I love re-watching these episodes.

Image

#4 - I love this. The odd thing about this fight was that I was so into the dialogue between Trunks and Freeza almost more then the actual fight itself. "It takes balls to come to Earth half dead in a tin suit, just to be killed", when Trunks said that to Freeza I was just like... shit, this guy better be able to back that up. Although that was what the fan sub translated it to, it was more or less the same meaning. I knew "this guy" was Trunks because I would buy random fan sub episodes but when I saw this, his first appearance, it was total bad assery. You know it's bad when even Freeza looks worried.

Image

#3 - What can I say that hasn't already been said about this battle. I like it, it's my third favorite fight. :D

Image

#2 - I always wanted to see this fight. I could never find the fan sub anywhere and this was before the internet was in every home. The first time I saw this fight was when FUNimation first dubbed it in 1997. When it aired I remember being on the edge of my seat for every episode and looking at the clock to see how much time was left in the episode. I would tape these episodes and re-watch them maybe two hours later. A week was so long to me when these first aired.

Image

#1 - This and the Vegeta fight are always tough for me to decide which is really #1 in my book. It's odd, I didn't see these episodes until about 2005-ish and I didn't read the manga on this arc. Everything about these episodes were new to me. The battle itself was awesome there were so many twist and turns. I didn't know how it was gonna end. When Piccolo totally disabled Goku, I had no idea how he was gonna save himself. It was a great fight that kept me guessing.

I took most of those images from kanzentai.com. The Trunks one is from Templeotrunks.com and the Gohan one is from Daizex.com.

This is surprisingly hard...

In the manga, I have to say my favorite fight would be Goku vs. Ma Junior. A close second is Goku vs. Tenshinhan, but frankly, the level of excitement of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai made that fight even more breathtaking. Goku's "big reveal" of knowing how to fly at the end made me want to jump up and cheer, knowing he was going to win after all.

As for the anime, I still rank Goku vs. Vegeta as the single greatest fight in the series. My close second is Goku vs. Cell.

Finally out of all the movies, hands down it's Goku vs. Piccolo, movie 2. It doesn't last that long, but I don't give a damn; it's just animated so well and brings back so many fond memories.

Manga: Goku+Krillin+Gohan+Piccolo vs Freeza.

Anime: Radditz vs Goku and Piccolo. Dunno why, but Radditz with a voice made the fight more intense for me.

TV Specials: Bardock vs Dodoria's Elite Warriors

Movies: Janemba vs Veku

GT: Actually I don't think there is one... maybe SSJ4 Goku vs Oozaru Baby?

Anniversary Special: Goten and Trunks vs Abo and Cado

Neko Majin Z: Vegeta vs Z

I'm gonna use picture too! For my top... two, I guess? Two fights only ever come to mind when this question pops up.

Vegeta vs Reacoom:
Image

Two reasons I like this so much:
1) It's just a brawl. I do like all the martial arts stuff, but I really am a fan of the slugging match done right. When you can tell by the movement and impact that it's two very powerful guys chucking their weight around. A proper superhero battle.
2) It's the first time Vegeta had to go into a fight knowing he wasn't the strongest, and it does him wonders. No time wasted on boasts and taunts. He has to fight for his life and he knows it, and I love how serious and relentless it made him. Which added to the brawl aspect.

Gotenks vs Boo:
Image

I love this whole fight. I love the portion inside the RoSaT for it's humour. Great expressions for every character, incredibly over the top all round, my favourite line ever from any Boo in "Do you... have snacks?", it's just fantastically enjoyable.

And I love the portion outside the RoSaT for, again, the brawl aspect. Just two powerhouses flinging each other round, leveling cities, shooting off giant attacks, creating massive craters, basically destroying the Earth as they fought. And it still kept some humour too, which is great.

You know, it's funny, but ... I'm not even sure I have one / care.
I think I'm gonn' go with Yajirobe Vs. Cymbal.
*Exchange* *lightning* *LATHE'D!*.

I guess the Goku+Krillin+Gohan+Yajirobe Vs. Vegeta fight, since it's all plotty/teamworky/strategy...y.
And made the SpiritBomb seem less like the end-all technique it is in the movies and... ur... well, everywhere else, for some reason, even though Freeza took it just as well as Vegeta... I think I just liked it because it was a three-person maneuver, and actively (as opposed to "Give me your energy!").

And that was effectively the only fight prior to season3 that I really paid attention to (and I wasn't really giving the screen too much attention, other than a bit of curiocity as to what the characters looked like), and it was more the continuing plot and cliffhangers that got me to keep watching. In the Saiyan-namek arc... which was rather light on the fighting at the time.

This is hard...

You know when it comes to the actual manga, Goku and Piccolo's fight can not be beat. However I'd have to say my favorite fight comes from the Trunks special. When Gohan takes on both androids(with one arm mind you) for the final time you can just feel his power. The one scene where Gohan slams 18 into the top of the building and smokes blows from every floor just sticks out in my mind as a truly epic moment in the series. He was out matched in every way possible yet he still managed to give them a run for their money. During that other scene where he just faces off with the androids in the rain felt so powerful, at that moment you were like He really is Goku's son! Truly awesome.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

My personal favorite fights?

Well, Gohan vs. Cell takes the cake for me, but there are others.

Gogeta vs. Janemba was nice, as well as Goku vs. Frieza. Also, I've always liked Goku and #18 vs. Super 17. And Vegeta vs. #18 as well. All were nice to watch.

I'd have to agree with everyone on Goku vs. Piccolo in the 23rd Budokai.

It still had more of a martial arts focus rather than "blowing up rocks and mountains" that the majority of the Z fights had. Plus they still were bound by the "ring out" rule and Goku was strict on winning abiding by that rule.
