Dragon Ball Kai Ratings.
I read somewhere that there has been talk of ratings throughout episode threads, but I haven't seen enough to get a proper feel for them.
So, because it interests me, I thought I'd make a thread for the ratings.
First of all, where do you get them?
Secondly, I know the show has been doing well, but do you think it would be meeting Toei's expectations? Enough to justify putting more work into the franchise?

Yo! Cal's the name. Nice to meet you!
Lover of all that is pure and fun in the worlds of Dragon Ball, Jim Henson and so forth!
3DS Friend Code 1418-7854-8786. I'm always playing Pokemon, so PM me yours for Friend Safari and battling! :D

I get my ratings from ANN: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... ember-9-15 is the most recently released one. You can actually backtrack through the links at the bottom of that page and it'll give you Kai's rankings since it began airing. :3
It hasn't left the top 10 once since it started airing. X3
As for meeting Toei's expectations, or what their expectations were for the show, I haven't a clue. ^^;
My personal hope is that it does well enough to get Toei to invest in creating a new 2-D Dragon Ball movie. (They could even call it a Dragon Ball Kai movie.)
I mean, Fresh Precure (also Toei) just got a movie and its been hanging out there in the lower end of the top 10 for a while now; there MUST be some chance for Kai, right?

Re: Dragon Ball Kai Ratings.
Sweetness! I've been meaning to do this for a while, so that way 25 years from now crazy people like me won't have the same problem of tracking them down like I had with the previous series'.Kingdom Heartless wrote:So, because it interests me, I thought I'd make a thread for the ratings.
I know most people just follow Anime News Network and their ratings updates, but they for some reason always fall way behind. However, I go straight to the source... I've been keeping this hush-hush, but I suppose it's time to share, right?Kingdom Heartless wrote:First of all, where do you get them?
The place you want to go is the Video Research (ビデオリサーチ) website. They're a media and marketing research company that keeps track of TV ratings in Japan. I'll be posting/translating all of the ratings as they become available, along with any other relevant information.

Well what do you know Sazae-san is at the top.
Shouldn't expect anything else from one of Japans longest running series, on air since 1969. Naruto hasn't apparently had the best succes seeing it only being 3 times on the top 10. Bleach hasn't even reached it all and out of the socalled Holy Shounen Trinity only One Piece stands tall.

Well, as always, that was everything I could have hoped for and more.
Thank you, Hujio.
Good to see it doing so well... whether you agree with the direction Kai not, it's good to see that people are still interested enough in the franchise to tune in. Seeing this, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if Toei saw this as a good enough sign to continue, in whatever way. Hopefully it will continue going strong through the rest of the series.
It's also good to see a lot of long running shows on the top 10.

Actually, that's just the Fresh Pretty Cure! TV anime that's ranked, since the movie hasn't been aired on television yet.Chuquita wrote:I mean, Fresh Precure (also Toei) just got a movie and its been hanging out there in the lower end of the top 10 for a while now; there MUST be some chance for Kai, right?
As you can see, the lowest Kai has been ranked is 8th.Super 17 wrote:DragonBall Kai is always ranked between 3rd through 6th in the top 10 since it started. I wonder if they will ever rank first, or at least second.
Yeah, I'm still somewhat surprised that Bleach never makes it into the top 10. It must meet TV Tokyo's expectations, since they're still producing the anime and it hasn't been in the top 10 since at least the end of 2006. And as you mentioned, the only anime of the "Holy Shounen Trinity" doing well is One Piece, but I almost expect that. Unlike in the U.S., One Piece has always been the most popular of the three in Japan. But in the U.S. we eat up Naruto like it's goin' out of style.Shoryuken wrote:Naruto hasn't apparently had the best succes seeing it only being 9 times on the top 10, since Kai began airing. The rating shares for last week (11/23–11/29) are out and have been added to the above list. It looks like Kai has been doing pretty well for the last month, which is good to see since this is one of my more favorite parts of the series. Although, I never did like all the filler inserted in this section.
I do find it quite interesting that Kai is able to compete with One Piece so well, considering one is a "new" show and the other is... well not even a remake, just a cut down version I guess. Also, Sazae-chan must've had one Hell of a show this week as it almost took in 23% of all viewers at that time.

I've heard the One Piece filler arcs always do quite well in the ratings. I suppose party because they're something new, whereas with the main story you can just read that in Jump or the tankoubons months earlier. Also, doesn't this filler arc have the whole crew in it? I'd imagine fans are eager to see anything new with them in it.Adamant wrote:Huh, so the current bad One Piece filler rates higher than the good, canon stuff that preceded it?

Actually, the current One Piece filler isn't that bad. Although I'm not a fan of these Amigo pirates, so much... But it's all story leading up to the 10th movie! Which is sorta cannon!Adamant wrote:Huh, so the current bad One Piece filler rates higher than the good, canon stuff that preceded it?
Anyway, these ratings, for current shounen anime, are really good. It's very interesting to see...

Judging from the ratings, it seems to have raised some interests in Japan. Haven't seen it, but find the concept of removing Lilo a little weird... still interested in seeing how it is, and how an anime Stitch is handled!Has anyone been watching the Stitch! anime? Is it any good? I've heard mixed reviews so far.
I wonder when the last time something beat out Sazae-san was...

The week before Kai debuted, funnily enough.Kingdom Heartless wrote:Judging from the ratings, it seems to have raised some interests in Japan. Haven't seen it, but find the concept of removing Lilo a little weird... still interested in seeing how it is, and how an anime Stitch is handled!

Some crossover special or something between Detective Conan and Lupin III (日テレ55YTV50金曜特別ロードショー・ルパン三世VS名探偵コナン). It pulled a 19.5 to Sazae-san's 17.0. It also didn't make the top 10 the week prior to that, but I assume it wasn't broadcast that week.
It tied at 15.8 with another special (土曜プレミアム・夏休み特別企画・ミヨリの森) on the week beginning August 20th and ending August 26th 2007.
The ratings only go back to 2007 so those and a few other disappearances due to the show taking a week or two off are the only blemishes on Sazae-san's record. It certainly hasn't been beaten by a regular anime in some time.
This isn't too surprising as Sazae-san is very much A Big Deal.

The Stitch! anime isn't too bad. It is different from the past series, but that's to be expected when you give a completely different country and company to do the series. Although different, I feel it is enjoyable, in some ways more so than the Lilo & Stitch! tv series. Probably the best thing one could say is to just check it out yourself rather than going off others opinions. First two episodes give you a general idea what to expect, with some different variety occuring after that on occasion.Kingdom Heartless wrote:Judging from the ratings, it seems to have raised some interests in Japan. Sorry for going off topic, but I felt that I should address this since it was asked.

I'm sure it helps that Naruto is on TV in the states; much less a primetime slot on a popular childrens' network. Either way, Naruto has never been as big as Dragon Ball Z. It's never even been as big as Bakugon.Hujio wrote:Yeah, I'm still somewhat surprised that Bleach never makes it into the top 10. That, and doesn't Oda have a part in this filler's story, as well?KaiserNeko wrote:Actually, the current One Piece filler isn't that bad. Although I'm not a fan of these Amigo pirates, so much... The rating shares for last week (12/7–12/13) are now available and have been added to the above list. It looks like Doraemon had a Christmas special, which made it to #3, beating out both DragonBall Kai and One Piece.

I'm wondering when I'm gonna hit the maximum characters that can be in a single post...
