How do you think Cooler came to resent Frieza so much
Obviously, if you've seen Movie 5, you know that Cooler thought that Frieza was a bit of a hotheaded brat and didn't like him. But the reason why he was angry at Frieza getting killed was because of the fact that a Saiyan was disgracing his family name. So how do you think Cooler started to hate him in the first place? I'd say it was simply Cooler growing up with Frieza and just basing his opinion on his upbringing. However, it could also be a lot deeper than that, as Cooler obviously got the short end of the stick as far as universal power goes, so maybe Frieza did something to screw Cooler over. What are your thoughts?

I always thought that, as the younger child, Freeza got more in the way of attention from others while Coola was expected to fend for himself. Perhaps the responsibility of the older sibling got to Coola, causing him to resent the ungrateful brat who was always taking what was rightfully his.

I think Freeza was the spoiled one of the two. Daddy's little gi... err boy. King Cold may also have wanted Freeza to be the heir of... whatever the fuck he was king of.
I think if it weren't for Goku, Coola was gonna go own Freeza's ass with his extra transformation. He obviously wanted to have some kind of immense power, otherwise he wouldn't have turned himself into that thing in Movie 6. I forget though, did Coola know about the Dragon Balls? If not, then his attempted enslavement of Namek makes no sense.

Err, where'd you get that? All Coola really says is that Freeza is "much too soft" and that he's arrogant and conceited. He then expresses outrage at one of their bloodline being killed by a Saiyajin. Where do you get that he "hated" him and so forth?jjgp1112 wrote:Obviously, if you've seen Movie 5, you know that Cooler thought that Frieza was a bit of a hotheaded brat and didn't like him.

From one of the many instances where the Dub warps the intended tone and atmosphere of the original.

Well, in that case...
Bardock, brilliant scientist that he was, extrapolated a theory that if Jack threw a hydrogen bomb into the pocket of energy where the Swan station would be constructed in the future, that a paradox would be formed that would somehow stop Oceanic 815 from crashing. In the alternate timeline that was formed, Coola hates Freeza, who in the original timeline is dead and is being impersonated by the Smoke Monster. We won't find out why until the 8th episode of so of the season.

If there was any friction, I would imagine it would just be the typical sibling rivalry issue.

I'm basing it off the subs, but feel free to assume what you want. If I based it off the dub, I would've said he would've intended to kill him.CashmanX wrote:From one of the many instances where the Dub warps the intended tone and atmosphere of the original.

He means the naming scheme. For one, the spelling of Fr|eza is wrong. Mr. EX explained it in a blog entry. And two, someone (I think it may have been penguintruth actually) made the point that if you're going to spell one of them one way, they should both be spelled the same way. Meaning Freeza and Coola, or Freezer and Cooler. The pun works both ways, but is kinda hit and miss if you mix and match their names. Like the dub did.

Here, Mike sums it up pretty well. Plus, "F-r-i-e-z-a" isn't pronounced "Freeza." Just like "Saiyan" isn't pronounced "Seiyan."jjgp1112 wrote:And this matters, why? Oh yeah, it doesn't.

Err, I just looked at the script for the movie one more time. Nothing there suggests hatred or anything resembling it. Can you tell me what line of dialogue makes you think this?jjgp1112 wrote:I'm basing it off the subs, but feel free to assume what you want. Re: How do you think Cooler came to resent Frieza so much
I didn't see it as hatred. More like professional jealousy (until Coola surpassed Freeza with his extra transformation) and Coola simply being critical of Freeza for allowing Goku to escape Planet Vegeta's destruction. All of Coola's hatred was reserved for Goku and the Saiyajin as a whole for disgracing their royal bloodline.

Re: How do you think Cooler came to resent Frieza so much
The dub spelling (with the "I") can be pronounced as "Freeza" if you take the German pronunciation of "ie" (used in words like "diesel") into account. If it was with an "ei" (used in words like "Fahrenheit") then I'd see the problem.
It isn't a big deal, but I prefer the "ee" spelling. I don't see why anyone would want to take the time to work around the Freeza Filter, though. Seems like a wasted effort.

Re: How do you think Cooler came to resent Frieza so much
Well, Freeza was the galactically feared, universally reviled, globally despised... *cough*. Freeza was the one with the fame and the power and the glory, and went and disgraced his family by getting killed by a Saiyan. I kinda think Cooler could well have Resented Freeza's being a household name , despite being the younger sibbling; the dishonored-by-a-saiyan thing certainly didn't help.

Re: How do you think Cooler came to resent Frieza so much
All the words that I can think of where "ie" is pronounced "ee" are of Germanic origin, so it make sense for those words. However, Freeza's name is a pretty obvious pun on freezer, so there really is no need to muck with it. Granted, freezer is Germanic in origin, but it comes from the Old German "friosan", which lacks an "ie", so that is moot.Kendamu wrote:The dub spelling (with the "I") can be pronounced as "Freeza" if you take the German pronunciation of "ie" (used in words like "diesel") into account. I don't know, I agree with Corey. I don't remember anything from the movie indicating that Coola hated Freeza.

Well, yeah. I get it. Like I said, I prefer the "ee" spelling. What I was getting at was that at least it does create the right pronunciation.Freeza Heika wrote:All the words that I can think of where "ie" is pronounced "ee" are of Germanic origin, so it make sense for those words. Would you like some frieza with that?
Frieze is as freeze but wouldn't that only be due to the 'e' on the end?
