Daizenshuu 7 Character Dictionary: Fill in the Gaps!
So over at Kanzentai, we’ve finally gone back to translating stuff from the daizenshuu, and to start it off we’ve put up a complete translation of Daizenshuu 7’s character dictionary (aka the Human Racial Dictionary). This dictionary has 402 entries on DB characters, with multiple characters sometimes sharing a single entry, such as with the Mousse family or Murasaki’s brothers. It essentially covers everything except video games and GT, since GT was in its early stages when the book came out. However, there are some omissions…and in order to provide flimsy justification for what is essentially a shameless plug, I’m going to ostensibly dedicate this thread to the search for those characters not included in Daizenshuu 7’s generally quite exhaustive dictionary. Now, a lot of these characters are nameless manga characters or minor filler characters, but there are 1 or 2 relatively important characters left out. Can you find them? Oh, I’d also appreciate anyone pointing out typos or other mistakes in the translation. We did our best to proofread the thing ahead of time, but it’s so darn long that we probably missed some stuff. Anyway, let the search begin! There are no prizes of any sort, other than that warm, fuzzy feeling that you get when you help out a DB fansite.

Awesome.
One typo I've noticed is in Captain Silver's section it says "In the anime version, he is established as a solder who specializes in boxing. He also destroyed Pilaf's secret base, and obtained a dragonball." I assume you meant soldier and not solder. And in Shen's Son section it says "A participant in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai" under Shen's Son.

You have Mez's picture in the entry for Goz.
Kentai wrote:Son Gokuu is a fascinating character anyway, because he is - at face value, anyway - an idiot savant. The victim of violent head trauma as an infant [...] he's a simple bumpkin with a fair share of brain damage who's natural talents to work out what's wrong compensate for his broad lack of common sense. But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

Updated March 22, 2010 4:42 PM EDT.
The Mouse that saves Goku from General Blue and then Goku saves by carrying him in his mouth.
In the Anime, the Frieza henchman that looks like Appule, Oran some call him.
In the Anime where you can see some very unimportant Frieza soldiers posing with Captain Ginyu.
The Sabre Tooth Tiger shown in both the Anime and Manga.
In the Anime, the East and West Kaio.
In the Anime, the Giant Ogre thing on Fake Namek.
The Tournament Monks should have one spot.
In the Manga actually, there is shown an unnamed Babidi henchman that Dabura orders to get Yakon to fight, we never see him again.
The Doctor at the West City hospital that is shown after Goku fights Vegeta.
The Lizard-like Doctor that helps out Vegeta after the battle with Goku.
The ZTV cameraman that was at the Cell Games.
This list doesn't seem to include the named but not shown fighters in the Jr. Division.
The various dinosaurs that exist.
The various people that the Great Saiyaman stopped. The Bank Robbers, the two guys speeding, and the criminals that he and Videl stopped.
The Numbered Contestants in the Preliminaries.
I didn't check at all, but there are a few people that were met during Roshi's training. The Ox-like creature that gives them Milk to deliver, the guy that lives at the top of that huge flight of stairs, the farmer they do the work for, the chef, and construction workers. All insignificant really and no need to have an entry.
In the Anime, the Director and that other guy that looks like Commander Red and Staff Officer Black, really insignificant.
With that said I'm surprised this list includes the Giant Octopus and Elder Tsuno.
The Mouse that saves Goku from General Blue and then Goku saves by carrying him in his mouth.

Re: Daizenshuu 7 Character Dictionary: Fill in the Gaps!
Well I'll be, the daizenshuu screwed up!penguintruth wrote:You have Mez's picture in the entry for Goz.
Not on the picture, they actually got those right, but on the descriptions. When I was putting the pictures together, I based it off of what color the daizenshuu listed them as. Daizenshuu 7 lists Gozu as the red oni and Mezu as the blue oni, but it should be opposite of that. Maybe I should have just looked at the pictures... Oh well, I'll just have to make that correction.
And just to clarify, so that everyone's on the same page, we're not adding characters to the daizenshuu translation, especially GT characters. We're just seeing if people can find the main characters that go left out.
I'll withhold comment on this one...SilverPlaqueVII wrote:All hail Jake "Herms" Schutz!!! Anyway, any DBGT Characters??
Try looking up Tailor A and Tailor B in the character dictionary.Khalid Shahin wrote:The Clothing Store Clerk that Tao Pai Pai goes to make a uniform and is then killed, he is important enough to be labeled on the Map in the Daizenshuu.
The Clothing Store Clerk that fixes up Goku a new Gi after defeating the RR Army, he is important enough to be labeled on the Map in the Daizenshuu.
If anyone else has corrections like what Makaioshin and penguintruth posted, please let us know.
Re: Daizenshuu 7 Character Dictionary: Fill in the Gaps!
Poor Hujio, gets no praise from people! You both have done a great job.
Now, I guess that this text is translated directly from the Daizenshuu, but I find it odd:
"During the battle with Freeza, while he put up a good fight before Freeza transformed, he was killed with a single blow after Freeza transformed into his final form." - Vegeta section
He recieved many blows until he died, as far as I remember. I would like to know if this was written like that in Japanese too?
"He has certain special characteristics, includig that his strength doesn't change even if his shape does. He was born only once, and battled Majin Buu." - Vegetto section
Typo

Next to it says (sic) and it's a link. It leads to this:RoarkVegeta wrote:Why does Amond have a Budoukai section to him..?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sic
I caught it, too, but I left it alone with the "(sic)" there.Sic is a Latin word meaning "thus", "so", "as such", or "in such a manner". In writing, it is placed within the quoted material, in square brackets – or outside it, in regular parentheses – and usually italicized – [sic] – to indicate that an incorrect or unusual spelling, phrase, punctuation, and/or other preceding quoted material has been reproduced verbatim from the quoted original and is not a transcription error.[1]

Re: Daizenshuu 7 Character Dictionary: Fill in the Gaps!
It’s a typo in the original book. In Japanese, each of those bio subsections (history, characteristics, etc) is marked by a single kanji or katakana character. For Amond, they probably meant to have 歴/reki, “history”, but instead it’s 天/ten, short for “Tenkaichi Budoukai”.RoarkVegeta wrote:Why does Amond have a Budoukai section to him..?
Kinto-un's counted as an item and included in the item dictionary.Khalid Shahin wrote:Kinto'un is hardly a character, it is an item, but just a reminder that it exists if you care to add it.
Her name is "Cynthia", and she's in there.I can't find the female driving instructor for Piccolo in the Anime.
Anyway, there's 2 fairly large omissions that nobody seems to have noticed yet. They're both characters named in the manga, though only one actually appears in the manga.

In addition to my previous ones.
I can't seem to find Captain Dark I think he was called. He was one of General Blue's men that went to Kame House. He was kind of fat and had a whip.

He's called "Dock" (though he's only named in the anime), and no, he's not in there.

"Bob and Margaret", is that the Japanese name? If so, they aren't on there, but they are fictional characters within a fictional story.

Yeah, those are their Japanese names. They’re included in the “Particulars Dictionary” (essentially a grab-bag dictionary near the end of the book), presumably because even in the DB world they’re just fictional characters, not actual people (how meta!).
