Why just copy and paste, people? Gah.

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Why just copy and paste, people? Gah.

Post by gotensottile » Tue Aug 24, 2010 8:38 pm

Why do I see this again?
Apparently, this 'SaiyanTeam'(http://www.youtube.com/user/SaiyanTeam2) puts up video updates of DragonBall news, and so many of those and the articles on their website(http://www.saiyanteam.com)are direct copies of Daizenshuu EX and Kanzentai articles, without even bothering to change the wording(other the occasional dubbifyness). Sometimes, they take an article and just put a little SaiyanTeam intro as the first sentance...
I remember seeing Pojo take Mike's Dragon Box article(he made a blog post about it), and was infuriated.
Man, I wish no one would do this.
They have over two thousand subscribers on their YouTube page.
They've only mentioned credit to Kanzentai and Daizenshuu EX in one of their 44 videos, let alone website articles(one for the articles too). This is also their second account(hence the SaiyanTeam2).
It's so annoying.

I don't know how people struggle to write articles to the point of resorting to plagiarism in the first place. It's not that hard to use your brain. :\

I'll give them props for the cool website design. I like those news tabs.

It's a shame and it is pathetic. But take comfort in the fact that these little groups who steal content will never have the type of following that Daizesnshuu EX or Kanzentai have.

Unfortunately it may attract new fans because of all the information "they" offer. It's sad. I say send them a warning email threatening to take legal action! Make them wet themselves.

But seriously, just shows you that there are fans that try to aspire to be like Mike.

I've never been to this site before, it must be a new one. It also must get a lot of hits, as it's a little slow for me.

They Type Like This, Use The "DB Font" And Appear To Be Rather Pompous. That's three strikes, I'm afraid.

And is it just me, or is VeggieXD an admin there?

That page is heavy.
And I don't think the layout is that good for a blog our a news site.

Sites with news and information should be fast and clean.

About the "copy and paste", unfortunately I think It's impossible to 100% avoid when you have a big and known site.
We depends on people's common sense and goodwill.

Copy and paste is just how the Internet works. Not just in the web pages, but regarding people's opinions too.
They see something that seems smart and thought out and they copy it in posts and responses, or in their blog ect.
It's seldom you see people with thought out opinions, able to describe them and fully expand without giving up because what they think is stolen from someone else.

Feel free to respond either here on the forum post or directly on the blog. I don't think there's a whole lot to add to the discussion, though :). I get a pretty good sense for how folks see the situation.

I love how they quote Wasted Wisher, but will only refer to him as "the source". And yeah, I've been keeping an eye on this site for some time now, although more-so when they had their first YouTube account. There are plenty of sites out there that just steal our content and news, without citing sources and playing them off as their own, but I don't like to give them the spotlight or the time of day. I like to be delusional about it... although it does upset me more days than others.

Yeah, basically. Why validate them? I'm going against my own viewpoint by writing up the blog post, but... eh. :?

VegettoEX wrote:(from his blog)So I am opening up the discussion. What do you all think about this? Is there anything wrong with what this YouTube user is doing, taking advantage of an open space that we do not have the time to jump into? Quite clearly this is a very self-selected audience that is almost guaranteed to support me, but I definitely would not be opposed to some differing thoughts… because, honestly, I am not entirely sure how I even feel about it.
I don't think it's "wrong". But it's ridiculous. Is that so hard to cite the source?
I don't like it.
But this is how the internet works.

Fortunately I think it's virtually impossible to pages like Kanzentai or Daizex to be affected with this kind of thing.

Maybe it could be a problem if the leeched page is small and less known.

My feelings get more complicated when I read statements like "Well apparently from what we've heard from our sources"...

No, what you've read on another site that you didn't identify from a source that directly told that other site...

I dunno. It's all halfway-cloaked, self-righteous bullshit from me, but I think I'm still allowed to have some sort of annoyed feeling deep down :P.

Makes me feel kinda important. I must be doing something right if people feel like copying me. But then, my translation was pretty much the only thing they did source, so maybe I'm biased (though they did rip off the rest of my RB2 update without crediting it as such).

Mike in your blog post you noted you were press partners with Bandai. So those pictures you got from them you could use.

So could you use that as an example of more than just stealing your articles? Use it as someway to combat the plagiarism. Or at least not steal all your content.
