The Most Accurate English Translation of The Manga
Which official English translation of the Manga is the most accurate? I assumed it was Viz until I heard about their translation errors. Are there even any official English translations apart from Viz?

Re: The Most Accurate English Translation of The Manga
Viz is the only official English translation of the manga. It has some problems, but overall it's actually more than decent. Better than the various rubbish scanslations floating around online, anyway.

Re: The Most Accurate English Translation of The Manga
Viz's translation work on the manga is perfectly fine overall. There are some issues of censorship, but 99% of that is just the visuals, nothing that really affects the translation. The closest one is changing Mr. Satan to "Hercule"...
There are some pirated scanlations out there that have cropped up, but from what I've been informed of, they seem to be super-literal. And none of them will ever be made available in print. So Viz is your best bet for an HQ digital & print release.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Re: The Most Accurate English Translation of The Manga
I think VIZ actually stepped up/updated their translation for the Full Colors. Vegeta's Galick Gun has it's Japanese pronunciation, Gyarikku Hou for example.
Still don't get the whole Light of Death thing for Makankasappo. Wouldn't it be Hikari-no-Shi?

That's in my regular Viz edition too though. Has it ever been different?KentalSSJ6 wrote: Vegeta's Galick Gun has it's Japanese pronunciation, Gyarikku Hou for example.

In English I'd call the attack "Demonic Light Screw."KentalSSJ6 wrote: Still don't get the whole Light of Death thing for Makankasappo. Wouldn't it be Hikari-no-Shi?
That way it has the same amount of syllables as the original and sounds equally silly as "Makankossapo" does to a japanese person, I'd imagine

The German version is "Höllenspirale" (Hell Spiral/Spiral of Hell) because of the "Ma" (evil, demonic) and all of course. I think such a name would have been cooler and more accurate than Special Beam Cannon.dbgtFO wrote:In English I'd call the attack "Demonic Light Screw."KentalSSJ6 wrote: Still don't get the whole Light of Death thing for Makankasappo. "Citation needed."

In Denmark it is "Lysskrue" (Light screw).Cetra wrote:The German version is "Höllenspirale" (Hell Spiral/Spiral of Hell) because of the "Ma" (evil, demonic) and all of course. I'd imagine most localizations have only translated part of the name.

In Spain, it's "Cañón de energía mortal" (Deadly energy cannon). I rate it "meh".dbgtFO wrote:In Denmark it is "Lysskrue" (Light screw).Cetra wrote:The German version is "Höllenspirale" (Hell Spiral/Spiral of Hell) because of the "Ma" (evil, demonic) and all of course. In the videogames, we got "Cañón de haz especial" (a nonsense, word-for-word translation of "Special Beam Cannon") until they switched to the anime term "Rayo Maléfico" (Maleficent Ray)

Re: The Most Accurate English Translation of The Manga
I don't think so. Even in my the first printing of the Viz Graphic Novel edition, it's still Gyarikkuhō.AjayLikesGaming wrote:That's in my regular Viz edition too though. Has it ever been different?KentalSSJ6 wrote: Vegeta's Galick Gun has it's Japanese pronunciation, Gyarikku Hou for example.
I think it looks odd that way, though. Why are Piccolo's Japanese style attack names changed to English, and Vegeta's "English" style attack names kept as close to Japanese as possible? They should've called it the Gyallic Gun, or however you feel like spelling that first part.
By the way, how does Funimation spell it?

Canon is Jaco, Dragon Ball except for EoZ, Dragon Ball Super anime and manga (both are separate canons)
