A coincidental resemblance: Mike and Meri in GT?

Post by Conan the SSJ » Fri Aug 04, 2006 4:52 pm

So I'm at my parents' house watching an old GT DVD, I gave episode 40: "Earth's Destruction, Piccolo's Noble Decision" a go. Now the basic plot of this episode goes as such: *Spoiler Warning*

The infamous Black-Star Dragonballs' effect on the Earth is beginning to show how serious it is. Goku and Kabitoshin decide to transport all citizen to the reborn Planet Plant, along with the help of ships from Capsule Corp. and King Chow's services. Because of the side-effect that Goku can't use certain techniques he learned as an adult (SSJ3, Instantaneous Movement) he must utilize SSJ4 in order to teleport his share to Plant. Eventually he runs out of energy as he finds Piccolo helping one last stranded boy on the dying Earth. Piccolo gives Goku just enough energy so Goku can ever-so-slightly tap into his SSJ4 power and transport the boy to Trunks' ship. Piccolo remains behind, gives a very tearful farewell to Gohan via telepathy, and dies a dramatic selfless death. The Namekians use Porunga to bail out the Earthlings once again, Earth's restored, and everyone parties like it's 800 AD.

Now, to the point of this thread! At one point during Goku's later teleporting in SSJ4, he comes across an innocent couple sailing a river under a thunderstorm, apparently unable to make it to a ship themselves. While saving a drunk and a possibly aged Namu, he helps this couple out and takes them to Trunks' ship. I'd show a screen-cap of this couple if I could, but I'll need to make a request for someone else to. This couple ... if not similar, looks exactly like Mike and Meri. I know I know, the episode aired like a year and a half before Vegetto EX's Links page came into existence, but still...I think it's one hell of a coincidence. In some type of form, Mike and Meri got a cameo in GT. Or at the very least, a strong resemblance to an innocent couple SSJ4 Goku helps out.

Sorry Julian, couldn't find a similar figure to you.

I tried checking MFG's enormous Screenshot gallery but it appears they skipped episodes 36-40 of GT for some reason. It's up to you, Tanooki!!

If Tanooki can't do it, who else can!?

I just noticed in that Pilaf picture that in the background its Pilafs Castle from Dragonball. Look at it! The satalite dish, the yellow top and the mushrooms that are like trees! Goddamn it Goku you bastard, you'll help re-build planets you destroyed but you still haven't cleaned up Pilafs castle? You sicken me....

Of course there is. Check out the episode where Tambourine kills Giran.

Awesome screen-cap shots, Tanooki! Now perhaps everyone sees what I mean? Also, there's one more brief shot of the couple inside Trunks' ship after Goku saves elder Namu. Maybe share that with everyone too?

PS to all those who haven't seen this episode, there are many more cool cameos in this episode than the sample Mr. Kuribo has shared. Yamucha, Puar, Oolong, Karin and Yajirobe, Upa and Bora, King Chow, and even the dinosaur enemy of Gohan's from his first year of training with Piccolo. Next to episode 64, definitely the best GT episode, IMO.

Oh yeah, here's an avatar version of the shot above, SSJ4 Goku rescuing a familiar looking, river stranded couple. To whomever's interested, nab it before anyone else can. To conclude, I hope this topic gets a mention in an upcoming podcast. :P

Eh, that guy looks like he's about 120 lbs heavier than Mike. Same hair, though.

Mike lacks the moustache though, thank goodness.

If anything, it's a sign Conan has been visiting Daizex far too often and it has infiltrated his subconciousness.

There's no mustache...

That's so cool... maybe not to say in real life but still neat for something :D

I don't think the anime guy is fat really... i think he just looks thick and bulky. Not fat.

(Mike and Meri haven't posted in this thread yet... Are they avoiding the truth! )

Agreed on both points. Not sure why Pedro thinks he sees a mustache.
