Goku and his Training

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Goku and his Training

Post by ItsAllGood » Wed Nov 08, 2006 7:51 am

So, we all know that he did push-ups, sit-ups, gravity training on his way to Namek etc, but at what point did he become so powerful that "normal training" would not suffice?

Even Vegeta trained on a meteorite to become a SSJ, and he still had to pump up his gravity training to past 400% normal gravity in order to give him a workout. Eventually, even that would not be enough.

In Goku's case, the only real training he would have had with the Kai's and in the RoSaT. But even so, the Kai's training took 10 Tonnes (correct me if I'm wrong) worth of arm and leg bands to even give him a workout whilst in SSJ mode. So what hope would he have had after all that? There was really nothing to keep him "pushing the envelope" as you could say.

What was he going to do, tie a couple of cars to his arms and legs? :P

Seeing him fight Uub near the end of DBZ made me realise that yes, he HAS been training, but to what extent, and, quite simply, how?

...cars? Not quite. Planetoids, maybe. I can picture Goku regularly teleporting himself out into space, and pushing small moons and such around for training (I'm serious!).

And I'd suppose that GRs can increase in level, so long as the user (and the room's structure itself) can handle it.

I think gravity training still has its purpose. I mean, Vegeta still did it in the Buu Arc. I guess the most it could do now is improve speed, I'm sure that was the point for Goku. After training with god and god, it seems that your regular NYSC workout won't cut it. The funny thing about Goku's strength (and I guess the other fighters) is that being so damn strong could have its weak points. Like when Goku "accidently" injured ChiChi before the arrival of the saiyans or how in the anime, Goku and Gohan couldn't quite control their relaxed super saiyan forms. I guess what I'm trying to say is the heroes have gotten so strong that our actions could still lead to a hiliarious catastrophy in their part.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

I think gravity training would still have it's upsides, mainly the increase of speed (because I think by around the Buu saga 300 times gravity would be a walk in the park for Goku and vegeta. As for how he trained before he fought Uub, I say leave it to your imagination.

If you wanna believe Goku benchpressed with houses, cool. If you want to be believe he did pushups with moons on his back whatever! Have fun imagining! That's what this series is all about (with a bit of violence on the side  )

I'm of the opinion that when a Saiyan trains hard in his 'normal' form, it would beef up his SSJ power.

The stronger your base level, the stronger your transformation will be. :)

It's still way out of proportion. When Vegeta trains under 400x gravity, he weighs 4000 tons and has some difficulty. However, he is able to produce ki-blasts of well over several megatons.

Huh? Why does his weight make any difference towards his energy output?

I like to think that Goku made his transition from powerful martial artist > not-of-this-world-powerful during his training with Mr. Popo on Kami's lookout, in Dragon Ball. That's probably my favorite training sequence in the entire DB/Z/GT series too. Popo taught him how to use his energy and his senses to fight. THAT, plus his already alien-like strength, was the start of Goku's new way of fighting.
