Episode #0058! VegettoEX, Meri, and Julian discuss 2006 as a whole... all of the good news, bad news, video games, crossovers, and more! We also brought on our buddy Corey to discuss perhaps the biggest news of the year, being FUNimation's upcoming "remastered" re-release of the entire DBZ series on DVD. Referenced sites: Whee! Go ahead and grab it. Big thanks to godofchaos for hosting the disgusting *fifty-eight* episodes, now.

Apologies on the weird, peak-y audio. Not sure what the flying fuck happened with my connections. Definitely not how it usually sounds. Ah, well... it's about the content, regardless.

Cheers to 2006... looking forward to 2007.

Well, while I think I sound like I'm falling asleep (and I did pass out about an hour after we finished that segment), I had a blast and wanted to say that Mike, Meri and Julian are genuinely cool people and I had fun bullshitting with them for a bit. I'll admit I was a bit nervous since I hadn't done any podcasts in at least a year and while I knew what to say earlier in the day when I got the invite, my mind went blank when we began ;p

Hopefully, I contributed something of worth and people will be able to tolerate my half-mumbling/Southern accent. I'd love to do it again sometime in the future, assuming El Jefe can find a use for me ;)

Woohoo, podcast. (I don't mind the accent, Corey. It's not like you sound like Gilbert Godfrey or something. :P) Well, yeah, thanks for the informative podcast, you guys. Will there be a review sticky when this boxset comes out?

Try right-clicking the link in this thread, it worked fine for me (not with my ipod of course).

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

I grabbed it the minute the thread was posted (I wasn't even checking!) and took over my friend's 5.1 surround system. He's like, "What's all this foreign talk?"

And I couldn't convince him that Mike was saying 'manga' right. :P

One thing I thought I'd mention.

Outside of their 2 trailers (the 'announcement' and the tech trailer), there appears to be NO advertising or even mention of it being widescreen.

Thanks, I finally got it to work. Awesome episode. I will definitely be getting this set. What got me wanting this was that whole idea of Japanese BGM with the English voices, thats been what fans have wanted for like the whole time FUNimation had the DBZ franchise, and now that we get it I don't hear anyone talking about it.

Also, since this is going to be the "official" version of DBZ for years to come. I wonder what there theme song will be. Will it be a dubbed "Cha La Head Cha La"? Will it be that crappy "The Action, The Energy" song as heard in the trailer? ( at about 48 seconds into it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojxzzOmGVLc). Who the Hell knows?

Great episode. Mike, Meri, Julian and Corey pwned the issue. I have mine pre-ordered for a low price. Considering that I only have one UUE DVD, no R2 DVDs of the Saiya-jin arc, and no Ocean Dub DVDs, I think that I am wisely spending my money on this set. I mean, the price! She's so low!

Great episode as usual guys!

Whle listening to you guys discuss the remastered DVDs ordeal, it really did hit me me hard: there's very little to no chance of them going back on their decision. This is what will be availible from now on and it's either buy it or don't buy it, like you guys said.

I'm personally torn: I want to buy these sets so badly because all I own is some old fansubs and dozens upon dozens of dub tapes...but the film fanatic in me knows that the cropped-widescreen presentation is stupid and just plain wrong. But if this is the only availible way for me to purchase the entire series without being broke all the time...as much as I want to deny it, the majority of people purchasing this set will be the casual fans and newcomers and they far outweigh the hardcore fans (or at least well-informed fans) like us and will determine the success of these sets.

As much as I bitch and complain about these sets, I'll probably cave in and buy them. I don't know a word of japanese and those R2 singles are expensive.

Sigh....

At least it won't be like purchasing One Piece dub DVDs that don't have the show in a "uncut", billingual format. :P

Oh and being a huge fan of JSS, I'll be looking forward to that review of JUS. :D

Hm... Julian hints that I should be doing something... I should start it.
*packs it as one of the things to bring back to college on Friday*
...and yes, I am a dork who has an extra copy to cut up....
I may have it to you scanned and cleaned by Saturday night... or Sunday night... or... >_>

By the way, I personally LOVE D.O.N. My friend's college's sci-fi club or w/e plays it as much as Smash now-a-days. To get gamers hooked, not all anime fans, to play it constantly... that's pretty good.

As for Viz.... ah yes, Viz.... those indecisive morons. Lately from them I have seen characters calling someone else their own name. The best is an example from FMA where they called someone what they were called in the anime for a bubble (or two).

Oh, the 'not obvious' way to get perfect DVDs, and I am sure SOMEONE will do it for their own personal use.

Have both the Dragonboxes and Funi's Boxsets, and make their own dvds with Dragonbox footage and adding the english tracks from funis (and subs)

This was a pretty good episode. :D

And congrats to Corey for getting on the podcast.

And in reply to VeggetoEX; of course your going to get these sets. You gotta be the guy that tells us whether or not to get them

Another superb Podcast guys! Corey nailed it on that Widescreen discussion & I'm glad that discussion was put out (with such pinpoint accuracy, I might add). Kudos to to all you guys.

Bleach, another popular Shonen Jump anime/manga.

OH!

Okay... I guess you could say I was retarded on that one, I know exactly what Bleach is

I think it was EvilGamerX's avatar that made me think Bobobo-bo, so I was kind of "wtf?" on that :?

I would prefer Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo more than Bleach to be honest.

I'd kill for a Budokai/Sparking! game with a bonus 'What If?' scenario where you could actually play the "One on One" parody Yoshio Sawai did a couple of years back ;)
