Darkest DBZ moment?

Post by tainted saiyan » Wed Jan 17, 2007 12:58 pm

DBZ's had it's more serious moments, but in your opinion, what was the "wow, thats dark" moment you saw watching DBZ? I remember "Trouble on Arlia" and it's almost comical ending. Vegeta and Nappa being praised as saviors and liberators of the entire race of Arlians and then Vegeta destroyed the planet. Saiyans don't take praise well I guess.

That's an easy one.

Gohan's death in the second TV Special. (In Trunks' 'future' timeline.)

Ah, you and your threads. :) I'd say Dodoria killing those namekians or most of the stuff in the Piccolo Daimou arc basically. Oh by the way...:!:I have some movie moments because a lot more happens in the movies! Let's see Tullece blasting Piccolo on the ground. Movie 4. Everything Super 13 did (crushing Vegeta's back, stepping on Big Green's face and punching Goku in the you know where)..Plenty more that I'm too lazy to think of. By the way, I do not condone necroposting ^.^!

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Yeah. Face down in a puddle. That was harsh. I was expecting a death similar to Goku's: Trunks finds Gohan dying, Gohan gives a little inspirational speech, then smiles and dies. Instead, I got. Gohan. Dead. Face down.

Kuririn dying by the hands of Piccolo Daimao's henchman is truely the definitive darkest moment in the Dragon Ball series. After that it's mostly characters that just get pushed to the side (Roshi, Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Chaozu, etc.,) dying somewhat random deaths. Of course, Kuririn dying the second time was pretty gritty. The Future Trunks timeline is a no brainer.

Necroposting? :)

Anyway, I'd have to say the Saiya-jin arc.

Yamcha. Tenshinhan. Piccolo. Chaozu. All except Piccolo died needless deaths: Yamcha: Saibaiman self-destructed on him after it was defeated; Chaozu: Tried self-destructing on Nappa, with nothing happening but his death; Tenshinhan: Used a giant Ki-ko-ho to avenge Chaozu and kill Nappa, which did nothing but strain him to death; only Piccolo had a meaningful death: protecting Gohan, who would be absolutely VITAL in the battle against Vegeta.

Oh, right, Trunks Special FTW. ;p

Definitely the darkest part of DBZ is Gohan's death in the future. Only part that makes me cry.

Probably the first time I watched the edited TV Dub of the Trunks Special (back before I knew the Manga or JP version). The recycled Faulconer piece at the end somehow encompassed the feeling of everything very well, and one of the few dub moments I look on to fondly. Pity the uncut version sucks.

For me, the darkest moment that comes to mind is when Gohan has the chance to kill Cell and doesn't, leading to Goku having to sacrifice himself yet again to prevent Earth's destruction (I least I remember that was what happened. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, it's been awhile since I saw those episodes). I thought it was dark, mainly because Gohan sort of did something really vain and dumb that only Vegeta would really be capable of doing beforehand. I was like, wow, he must feel like a real jerk. It was dark to me mainly because you could sort of feel the weight of the consequences that Gohan felt as a result of his arrogance.

When a character died(except the bad ones!), especially Gohan's death in future Trunk's time...
And probably the last DB episode? Not the episode itself had "dark moments", but it was hard to realize that everything was finish:wink:

I loved that episode. Cell got his revenge!

Well, my top two have already been said (Darn me for going outside for the day!). Kuririn's death by Tambourine was certainly signaled DragonBall's turn for the darker, and Future Gohan's death was certainly dark as well. Also, despite having happened to a villain, Freeza's getting chopped up by his own attack at the end of his fight with Goku was pretty dark, too.

I'm voting when Oopa's dad was killed by Mercenary Tao Pai Pai. I love the land of Korin episodes, but I only saw them in the original. I guess the dub probably ruined them.

Though I haven't watched the uncut, they were still pretty good eps. I think they left in Bora getting speared as well not showing something else.

How about the massacre of the Nameks? That was pretty horrendous.

Yeah you're right. Dodoria snapping the head of the village elder & Freeza shooting a little child with a death beam.

I agree, but it wasn't Piccolo Daimao who killed him. It was one of his henchemen. It's also the saddest moments in all of Dragon Ball, in my opinion. I was hella shocked when I first seen that episode. He even died with his eyes open!

When Vegeta was killed by freeza and I think he even let a few tears out while saying his last words to Goku. Or when he blew himself up to try and destroy buu .
