Kai TFC in Japanese?

Post by Rafa Fast » Mon Sep 23, 2024 12:46 pm

Hi, is there any fan project with the goal of making a Japanese dub of Kai The Final Chapters?, in more detail, Kai The Final Chapters is the International version of the Boo Saga of Kai, it was made before the Japanese version, it features less corrections, only one opening and ending with different songs and animations, different music placement (including insert song "Let It Burn" and the Recap theme based on "Fight It Out!" whichis a personal favorite of mine, I prefer it much more than the Battle of Gods extended edition track used in the JP recaps), and specially, more episodes, at least 8.
This release is different enough, but it's only available in foreign languages, there isn't a Japanese dub for it, which for me is really bad as I only like watching Dragon Ball in Japanese, so this version of the show is unwatchable for me, so I ask
Has someone ever tried to do it? I believe it may be easy to just switch audios for the scenes and episodes that exist in both versions, but for the scenes with different soundtrack, extra scenes and extra episodes may be a real pain.
I think that for the extra episodes, the only way would be taking the dialogue from the Original Z episodes, and place them over these extra episodes, removing English/Other dubs dialogue and leaving just the SFX and music, and then make the dialogue synchronize with what's on screen.

Is that any possible? If so, is someone working on it? Or is there a complete project of it? If not, then maybe it's impossible, that's really sad, I believe it might be really easy to do a English/Foreign Dub of the Japanese version, but a Japanese dub of the International version may be a lost cause :(
I simply wouldn't want to imagine my life without Dragon Ball, thank you Akira Toriyama (1955-2024), you are now immortal ~☆

The version you refer to exists and it was released in the French home video releases for DBZ Kai: TFC.

I wouldn't say it was made before the Japanese version of Buu Kai. The Buu saga of DB Kai aired in 2014 on Fuji TV in Japan and was originally intended to take over the time slot of the Toriko anime. DBZ Kai TFC, the international edition of Buu Kai, began airing in 2017 (using the Funimation dub) on Adult Swim and aired concurrently with the Funimation dub of DB Super until 2018, when Kai TFC ended.

On the point of this topic, I don't think it's possible to make a fan-made Japanese version of Kai TFC. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure there is already an official Japanese audio track of DBZ Kai TFC in Funimation's BDs of the series.

The international version of DBZ Kai: TFC (69 episodes) began airing in France in 2014 so it probably exists before the Japanese version (61 episodes).

I'm not sure if I'm understanding the question right but the US (Funimation) release of Kai The Final Chapters does have a JPN Dub alongside its English dub. I know the few times I switched over to the JPN Dub for fun that it did not have the muffled sfx issue like the Dub has. (For some of it anyway) So such a Dub exists.

TFC was thrown onto Fuji TV hastily back in 2014 just so Toei could maintain their timeslot after Toriko failed. Mayumi Tanaka was already talking about recording for Boo Kai back in November, 2012 (and she specifically said that the show was meant for broadcast outside of Japan AKA the international cut). Since the Japanese cut was made in a rush in 2014, it seems clear that the international cut came first, and that was presumably the only intended version of TFC until Toei rushed out the Japanese cut for Fuji TV.

Getting back to the topic at hand and echoing what others have already said, Funi's releases of TFC are the international cut and have a Japanese audio option.

Yes the Japanese version was made after the International one, that's why it features more corrections/changes and it uses music from the extended version of Battle of Gods, as the extencut cut of that movie was released very close to the Japanese broadcast.

Well, Official Japanese Dub of TFC with the extra episodes included??? Then I guess it was my mistake, I never saw any clip or video showing Japanese dub of such version, so I just assumed it didn't exist (specially because TFC was made for international release), too bad how the JP dub of that version is limited to a english release and all that Japan have is the JP version, but thanks for sharing the information ^^

If you have the cash pick up Funi's Kai TFC dvds/blu-rays and you'll have your JPN Dub of the "extended/international" version. Even here at Kanzenshuu.com their is a section for Kai TFC (international version) but it sadly is no where near complete that I know of. If anything the JPN version is more "Kai" than the international version. (Episode count wise)

Well I believe my only problems with Japan version are the missing episodes, the opening and recap themes, I really prefer them over Kuu-Zen-Zetsu-Go and the BoG EE track, it really bugs me how a japanese version of extra episodes are exclusive to America, japanese fans can just buy them but it just makes no sense for me to have Japanese content not available in Japan.
Maybe we could try to work on a "Ultimate Kai Boo Saga" project for both dub fans and JP fans, with footage from Japanese dub, the extra episodes, the two opening songs for specific number of episodes, and the different tracks, but that would be too much and I feel that almost no one is really interested in such idea, so let's just pretend that this thread was never made XD (I still appreciate the help though, thanks)
