Vegeta.. has scars? What?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Vegeta.. has scars? What?

Post by Supa Saiya-Jin Tullece » Sat Jul 14, 2007 9:48 pm

I don't know if this has ever been answered before, but in episode 103 (Frieza's Counter Attack) we see Vegeta put on his uber masculine shower-wear. Well, when he puts it on, you see this:

Vegeta has scars all over! Now it's completely evident that he doesn't have these later on, so what ever happened to them? Where they just a mistake made by Toei to make him look cool?

He drew them on to be bad-ass.

After Goku was healed by a senzu bean from his fight with Piccolo (Jr) - he had a scar where Piccolo shot that laser ki thing through his shoulder.. that disappeared the next scene where Goku is shown shirtless in DBZ.
Just Saiyan...

Holy shit! I'd forgotten all about that episode - I'd been trying to figure out if we ever get to see Vegeta without gloves and I couldn't come up with anything.

Though we can easily put it on Toriyama-sensei's forgetfulness, maybe we can just say that Saiyans scars eventually heal, or disappear if the Saiyan dies and comes back to life. Those scars might be from Earth?

They went to wherever Yamucha's scars came from, I guess. That's actually bothered me before.

I dunno, the only other time I can personally remember seeing Vegeta shirtless, he was SSJ and his blinding golden aura made his skin look a lot more pale. Maybe the selfsame golden aura kinda... bleached them from visibility in that scene? I got nothin'.

I remember seeing his scars in those training episodes and then noticing they were missing in GT in the episode with Vegeta's shower scene (along with his nipples  *ahem*) but I'd always somehow believed they stayed consistent throughout DBZ...but now I just looked in the manga at the scene in the Buu saga where Vegeta first sees Trunks going Super Saiyan, and they're definitely not there anymore. I say it's Toriyama-sensei forgetfulness at work again....

OK, checking more manga volumes, I found something interesting. First I went to check to see if the scars were present in the scene where Vegeta gets out of the healing machine before going to Namek (Vegeta is naked often....not that I'm complaining  ) And what's this? No scars! So I got to thinking maybe it wasn't Toriyama, but Toei that added the scars and then forgot about them. But then I checked the scene where Vegeta is asking (demanding :P) Dr. Briefs to make him a gravity machine....and the scars are there! So before Namek, he had no scars. After Namek, he had scars. In the Buu saga, he had no scars again. So there goes the theory that maybe the scars disappeared because he had been brought back to life, since apparently they weren't there before he died. LOL design inconsistencies.

The scars always bothered me, but sailorspazz's theroy seems to be reasonable. So i'm going with it.

Well I think the answer is pretty obvious here. They clearly all received laser scar removal treatments. :D

Well, that scene never happened in the manga. Also, if senzu cured scars, then Ten and Yamcha wouldn't still have theirs. So, it's just filler that makes no sense as usual.

EDIT
Just saw Spazz' post. But yeah, not in the manga.

Yajirobe DID slash him with his katana... but I thought that was just his back?

They could just be injuries sustained by battle... being smashed through mountains and concrete might slash you if it connected the right way (instead of bruising you). Other than that... it could just be from past battles. Freeza remarked that Vegeta was always putting himself on the frontlines, after all.

That's all I got, fellas. :?

Hahaha. That's right. And also, Yamcha's hole was healed after Dr. Gero jabbed right through his body.I'm sure if a Senzu bean can heal complete holes through a persons body then it can heal mere scars.

A more reasonable answer is that Vegeta is a Saiyajin. Saiyajins are fighting machines that don't age as fast as humans for the purpose of fighting. So I'm sure scars heal up quickly for them.

Except for Bardock... and Toteppo. They've both got scars.

I definintely remember Vegeta having scars in the manga during the same period that we're discussing on this thread.

However, they "mysteriously disappear" later in the series..... intriguing.

They could've been from when Vegeta went into Space to find Goku. That's the only explanation I can think of...

Well, Yamcha's scars on his face didn't heal, and Tenshinhan was given senzu in the past, and his scars remain.

I too noticed that before, but also noted that they did not seem to be deep scars. Some scarring does heal over time, and perhaps after seven years of noncombativeness after the fight with Cell, those light scars faded. Plus, Vegeta bulked up more between then and the Buu era, so they might be faded and become less visable altogether. Best I've got for an "in universe" explanation. :?
