Things DB should have had...but didn't

Post by Thanos6 » Wed Aug 08, 2007 5:49 am

Let's face it. DB is a great manga with some great TV series, movies, and specials...but not perfect. Sometimes they just missed out on amazing opportunities.

I'll list a couple right now.

1) Late Freeza saga. Toei is desperately in need of some filler. Fair enough. So we get things like...Ginyu-as-Bulma. When we COULD have had something wonderfully hilarious like Mr. Popo gathering the Dragon Balls.

2) There really should have been an all-out, taking up an entire tankobon fight of Piccolo vs. Vegeta. Maybe Piccolo gets mad about Vegeta letting Cell become perfect and goes after him (after training for a day in RoSaT to make them evenly matched). Something like that. Whatever the reason, it would have been marvellous. As it is, I don't believe they ever fought directly, unless you count Piccolo dragging Vegeta by his hair in the first Broli movie.

Any others?

1)Goku in Buu Saga, he is all washed-up and should have stayed dead but no, darn fans.

That all I got so far.

EDIT:Sorry, I misread the title.

Gohan defeating Majin Boo and Goku remaining dead and/or not in the spotlight after the Cell Game. I would have been fine if his only fights were against Majin Vegeta and Boo.

I think Piccolo vs. Vegeta would have been awesome in one of the movies. I can't see it happening in the series, but if they managed to have a Goku vs. Piccolo rematch in movie 2, Toei could concoct a Vegeta vs. Piccolo scenario.

I highly doubt the aforementioned scenario as Piccolo had next to no evil left in him, so that sort of thing would be unbecoming.

I would've also loved to see more of Super Saiyan level 2.

The series SHOULD have had more for the human Z-fighters to do. Or at least, less Super Saiya-jins.

I wanted to see more from Yamucha and Tenshinhan mostly. Kuririn got a bit more to do than them but still... he became useless.

Also, I wanted someone to be able to defeat a major villain besides a member of the Son family. Or at least, if they couldn't defeat them, last more than 3 seconds.

Gohan/Saiyaman superhero-in-high-school arc. School life antics and wondering if he should go to the dance with Videl or Erasa - and who is that mysterious Saiyawoman who keeps showing up?

Or maybe I watch too much shoujo.

SWEARING! That's what Dragonball needs. Swearing.

I was watching the Bardock Special, and when Bardock comes back to see his crew slaughtered after an ambush, and is then confronted by Freeza's henchmen... it feels out-of-character not to hear him throw F-bombs!

There is a notable amount of swearing in the Japanese version, as translated by Daimao. Damn/Dammit, bastard, pisses/pissed off, Hell (in figurative context), and even "half-assed" (Vegeta says this in GT episode 63). The Ultimate Uncut dub episodes (once the Namek episodes kick off) and some of the games have also offered an equal amount of swearing, as does DBZ movie 7. What more do you want, shit and fuck? :P

I think we could've used more filler between the defeat of Kid Buu and Uub's appearance. As it is, only 2 full episodes, (from my point of view) DBZ movie 13, and a few flashbacks in GT give us a glimpse of this post-Buu, pre-GT era where Goku can finally live with his family "as a family of four in [their] little house", Videl and Gohan's relationship builds on, and Goten starts training. But hell, I'm happy with what Toei did give us, probably why I'd have liked to see more.

So, how long have you been with Anime Labs? Do they pay well?

I like some of the other ideas in here. Especially a Piccolo Vs. Vegeta battle.

Something that would have been cool to see would have been an extra little arc between the end of Kid Buu and the appearance of Uub with Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, and even Hercule and Videl saving the world somehow.... With Goku and the others arriving just too late to be of any help.

Oh, oh! Like Goku and the gang are off fighting Broli, again, or something - and Pilaf comes up with some plan to take over the world (which degrades into accidentally almost destroying the world) and Bulma, Chichi, Videl (as Sayaman 2), and Mr. Satan save the world.

Goku and everyone come back from fighting Broli...

Goku: We did it!
Chichi: That's nice dear.
Gohan: So, what did you girls do while we were gone?
Videl: Not much. *giggle*
Bulma: Same old, same old. *wink*
Vegeta: ... whatever.

More details on the Saiya-jin - including at least some reference to their language.. especially in the manga.

Also would have liked to see Goku spending more time with his family.
Just Saiyan...

I'm so with you there, but I don't really watch any shojo. With all the fighting going about in the series, it's always good to see what Z-fighters are doing when they aren't. That's also pretty much the reason I loved most of the pre-Saiya-jin arc filler.
Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Things DragonBall should have had, but didnt? How bout a good English dub! Heyooo! Very Happy
That is laughably good

I also would've loved to see some filler involving Penguin Village. Son Goku & family go to visit to meet with the Norimakis.

ZING!

Anyways, I think it would have been cool if it was just plain out mentioned that the human fighters were slowly becoming more and more worthless and have some kind of internal conflict among the Z-Fighters. I think Meri said it best in a past podcast episode when she talks about the series not really delving into the characters' psyches. Granted, I'm somewhat sure that not that many anime were doing (or I guess not doing) the same thing as the DB series was, I still woulda liked something like that.

That would have been ridiculously funny!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the screen time he had with Bulma when the two of them went on the search for Kami's spaceship.

And there were also the scenes where Mr. Popo and Kami were being chased by the previous guardians of Earth whilst trying to cleanse the Earth with the sacred water. Just they way they were running and the facials that were drawn for them kind of made the two of them seem like a comedic duo in the vein of Abbot & Costello or something out of Benny Hill.

More Piccolo / Goku stuff in the five year span between DB and Z.

A female character that is both a) useful and b) able to remain useful against the next villain. #18 was sooooo clooooose... XD

Other than that, I dunno... a little more proof that Goku does things with his family that aren't training or sparring or something. I love the scenes of him taking a walk with his wife and baby son (even though he almost gets selfsame baby son killed...) and the big trip to the beach in the GT flashback. Stuff like that.

Certainly wouldn't object to stuff like that with the human fighters, either...

Less of Goku being dead and spending more time with his family. He's gone for almost all of Gohan's childhood and all of his adolescence. He's also gone for a big chunk of his adulthood training Uub, then just dissapears into Shenlong for the rest of his life.
