Not entirely sure what you're expecting. DB rapes physics with a steel pipe. If you're expectting this huge scientific rambling deducing exact speed, you may want to go read Marvel comics or something.

Changes. Sometimes, (especially in the anime) chi blasts seem to move slower than a car or airplane could. Other times, they lance from the Earth to the Moon in a couple of seconds, which makes it near lightspeed.

you may want to go read Marvel comics or something.

After Dabura stole Gohan and Videl's marriage, I'm just not that into it anymore.

I think it might very well be variable according to the desires/needs of the user, to a certain extent. I think that by the time Freeza transformed for the last time, he was relatively pissed at the guys and wanted to pick them off quickly at first, so he used a fast attack. In that same vein, I think (I just realized I've used that phrase three times in as many sentences

) that Roshi and Piccolo's attacks were sped up (IU) out of urgency and (OU) because neither Toriyama-sensei nor Toei wanted to animate a long, drawn-out ki-blast-travelling segment, understandably. I can't recall where, but I seem to remember either a fanfic or a fansite that conjectured that speed was inversely proportional to the amount of ki in the attack, which could explain, for example, Goku's Chou Genki Dama, versus Yamcha's Sokidan; the former had shitloads of ki and moved slower than molasses, while the latter had less ki but zipped around the arena like a firefly on crack....Just a thought....

What just happened to Spidey... that is raping a series, and an insult to it's fans. No argument there.

...and yeah, Gwen coming back would have been pleasent. Otherwise, I kinda like/d the upgraded powers/origins and stuff. Sadly, all I can hope for is another retcon to counteract this retcon.

I take it like this.

The moon is about 380,000 (give or take a few thousand) kilometers away. Lets say it takes around 5 or 10 seconds for a kikoha to reach the moon.

That's mean the kikoha could be anywhere between 136,800,000 and 273,600,000 kilometers per hour.

For you Americans out there, that's 85 to 170 million miles per hour. That's pretty darn fast.

Though it's not quite as fast Dub Piccolo's "Special Beam Cannon" which is "faster than the speed of light" putting it at over a billion kilometers per hour.

Yeah, I always used that as my starting point. Then, I assume that afterwards, everyones attacks got faster. And from then on, whenever their attacks seemed slow, it was only so that we could see it happen (or just for dramatic effect).

I've always seen it as more like that time was just skipped over. I mean, really, how can you tell how much time passes between two pannels on a page? And beyond that, it took longer for Roshi's Kamehameha to reach the Ox King's mountain than it apparently took to reach the moon.

It didn't really take the Kamehameha or Piccolo's energy blast just a few seconds to reach the moon, we just weren't shown the 30 to 90 seconds it took to get there.
