Immortality

Is Garlic Jr the only person to have successfully wished and gotten immortality via the Dragon Balls? Or is there somebody else that I'm missing?

Yes, based on everything we hear, read and see in the series Garlic Jr. is the only one to obtain immortality through the Dragonballs in Dragonball.

There is, however, a theory among a very small amount of fans that at the end of DBGT, when Shenlong is taking Goku and the Dragonballs get absorbed into Goku, that Goku then becomes a sort of god-like being that never dies and is able to travel among all of the dimensions and realms in the Dragonball universe (evidence: unaged Goku at the end of A Hero's Legacy). Personally do not subscribe to this theory, and it is almost positively false, but there is a chance that Goku did become immortal via the Dragonballs at the end of GT, but since it is GT, it would be filler anyway.

You know, I've always wondered why Piccolo Daimao and Slug never wished for immortality. Was it because they felt they were the strongest in the universe? I mean why just get your youth back, you'll lose it again eventually.

Piccolo Daimao doesn't really seem to think things through. I mean, first he takes over the world, then he decides to blow it up over the next 43 years. Kind of wishy-washy. But with the youth thing, I guess he's at least better off than all those guys who wish for immortality but don't get eternal youth, then spend the rest of eternity becoming more and more decrepit. Or wish for immortality and then fall into the stupid black hole thing that they made...

I'm sorry, but I just have to point out that GT is not filler in any sense. Sure, it's not canonical to the manga, but it wasn't made to fill in time or anything of the sort. It was made to extend the series.

I don't know about Slugg, but Piccolo Daimao merely asks to have his youth restored, to the time when he was most powerful.

The Namekian villains never seem too smart (Since there were only two of them.). I guess they've never thought that anyone was ever stronger than them.

Why would he want to be immortal if the world's gonna be wrecked and all the people killed after 43 years?

Well, my point was why would he want to both to take control of the world at all if he was just going to wreck it all and kill everyone after 43 years (not so long in a Namekian lifespan, either).

I don't think piccolo ever intended to become immortal. I don't think he was ever going to use the dragonballs again. Why else would he kill the dragon? Maybe he was just showing off and knew the dragon could be restored, but that sounds really inconvienent. As far as blowing up the world in 43 years, maybe he planned to travel to other planets afterwards. We know that Kami always suspected he did not belong on Earth, he even alluded to being an alien in the original Dragonball. Plus he knew about his namek spaceship. Piccolo would of course have the same memories of Kami, and it's been proven many times in DBZ that Piccolo is no fool. He was one of the few villians who didn't toy with the good guys and instead opted to kill them all before they could pose a threat. He easily manipulated pilaf although that isn't saying very much.

No he doesn't. During his fight with Yamcha all he says is that he is not a human. The Funi dub changes this to him actually saying he's an alien.
