Super Saiyan Rosé is introduced in Dragon Ball Super episode 56 as Goku Black's equivalent to Super Saiyan Blue.
Name
Goku Black tells Goku that he followed the established naming convention for Super Saiyan forms when naming Super Saiyan Rosé.[1][2] In Japanese, roze (ロゼ) is used for the color pink, and also for rosé wine. The flower is spelled rōzu (ローズ).
Production

Akira Toriyama's design notes for Goku Black indicate that Black was supposed to have a regular Super Saiyan form in addition to his Rosé form.[3][4]
悟空のような超サイヤ人になったり、悟空とは少し違う色の超サイヤ人になったりします
Becomes a Super Saiyan like Goku, and a Super Saiyan of a slightly different color than Goku.
— Akira Toriyama
This instruction was either misunderstood or ignored by Toei Animation writers, as Black goes directly from his normal form to Super Saiyan Rosé in the anime. In the manga, Black transforms into a regular Super Saiyan[5] before moving on to Rosé.[2]

Since Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is described as being Super Saiyan with the power of a god,[7][8] anime fans were left with the impression[9] that Black skips regular Super Saiyan because he is Zamasu, who should always have divine ki as one of the Core People. This impression was reinforced by an infographic published in the November 2016 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine (21 September 2016) shortly after the form's anime debut (28 August 2016).[6]
超サイヤ人ロゼゴクウブラック ゴクウブラック版の超サイヤ人。その実力はSSGSSに匹敵!!
Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black—A Goku Black version of Super Saiyan. Its strength is a match for SSGSS!!
— "Dragon Ball Park Monthly"; V-Jump, November 2016 issue
This discrepancy between the manga and anime is difficult to reconcile, but in both cases, Rosé is presented as Black's version of Super Saiyan Blue. When Black first transforms in the manga, the following exchange occurs:[2]
ザマス: 神が超サイヤ人ゴッドを超えると青ではなく薄紅色になるのか!
ゴクウブラック:お前らのセンスに合わせて この姿を超サイヤ人ロゼ...と呼ぶことにしよう
Zamasu: So when a deity surpasses the Super Saiyan God, instead of blue, his hair turns light crimson!
Goku Black: I will keep this in line with your naming customs... I shall call this state... Super Saiyan Rosé.
— Dragon Ball Super manga chapter 20
Zamasu presents Rosé as simply being the next step past Super Saiyan God, even though Black never uses this form. Black's line mirrors his line in the anime.[1]
