Araghne is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super. Araghne makes its debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 85, broadcast on 09 April 2017 on Fuji TV as a monster deployed in the Dorakiyan invasion of Planet Dardon.

Biography

Shortly after the Zen Exhibition Match, Araghne is used to facilitate the Dorakiyan conquest of Planet Dardon. The Pride Trooper Dispo responds to a distress signal and fights them alone. Araghne manages to capture Dispo despite his uncommon speed, and just as Araghne is about to eat him, Dispo is rescued by his fellow Pride Troopers Toppo and Casserale. The three of them introduce themselves formally with special poses and proclaim that they will now defeat evil.

Toppo attacks Araghne with kicks and then with Justice Flash. Casserale and Dispo team up with kicks and a Double Cannon Maximum, disabling Araghne. The Dorakiyan cannot believe Araghne was defeated, but then Toppo appears behind him, telling him that they have zero tolerance for his actions, picks him up and tosses him into Araghne's gaping maw. Toppo destroys them both with fire and proclaims that as long as the Pride Troopers around, the light of freedom will never disappear.[1]

Name

Araghne's name is likely derived from Arachne (アラクネー), a mythological weaver who was transformed into a spider by Athena, the goddess of crafts. There are different versions of this story; in one account, Arachne challenges Athena to a weaving context, and in another, Athena issues the challenge. The common thread is that Athena transformed Arachne into a spider so that she could weave for the rest of her days.
