The Zen Exhibition Match is a preliminary match for the Tournament of Power pitting three contestants each from Universe 7 and Universe 9—the two universes with the lowest mortal levels—against each other in three consecutive non-progressing matches. After the third match, Toppo of Universe 11 challenges Goku to a match as well.

Name

The term 全覧試合 (Zenran’jiai) is a play on 天覧試合 (tenran'jiai), an exhibition match held with the emperor in attendance. 全/Zen ("all; complete; whole; entire", as in "Zen'ō", the Omni-King) replaces 天/Ten (heaven, indicating the emperor, the child of heaven).[1] Some fans used the translation "Omni-Present Matches"[2][3] before the reveal of the official Toei Animation translation of "Zen Exhibition Match" in the simulcast subtitles.[4] Steven Simmons adapts the pun as "Royal PreZence Matches" in his subtitles for the FUNimation home videos, emphasizing the "Zen" in his misspelling of "Presence". This was further adapted to "Zeno Expo" in the FUNimation dub.

Summary

Background

Future Omni-King was not present at the God of Destruction Invitational Tournament. He has never seen a martial arts tournament before and he does not want to wait until the Tournament of Power to see what it is like. The Omni-Kings want Goku and two other warriors from Universe 7 to come to the Omni-King's palace to fight three warriors from Universe 9. The Great Priest tells them to be there in one hour, then takes his leave. Goku is excited, but Beerus is still angry with him for taking the Omni-King so lightly. Shin says that if Universe 7 is erased in the Tournament of Power, he will never be able to atone for so much loss of life. Goku offers to ask the Omni-King to refrain from erasing anything, but Whis does not think this is a good idea. It was their idea to erase the universes, after all, and if Goku displeases them, they could be erased on the spot.

Goku is at a loss, and Beerus chastises him severely for realizing the dangers of the Omni-Kings too late, and promises to make him pay for his naivety. Goku decides that just means he has no choice but to win. He will defeat his opponent no matter who it is. The Elder Kaiōshin concedes that they have no choice but to let Goku do his thing, but first, they need to find the other two participants, and then, they have to make ten for the Tournament of Power. Beerus tells Goku it is his responsibility to hurry up and find two more fighters.

Goku asks Vegeta first, and Vegeta reminds him that he cannot leave Bulma's side when she is about to give birth. Goku looks to where Goten and Trunks are sparring nearby, and Vegeta suggests that Goku ask his son. Goku says that Goten and Trunks are too young, but then he remembers that he has another son. He thanks Vegeta for the hint, and takes off to find Gohan. Gohan is not sure about entering, but Goku assures him that his fighting instincts will come back quickly enough. Gohan is still not convinced, so Goku decides to tell him the consequences of losing in the Tournament of Power, insisting that Gohan not tell anyone else, including Videl. Gohan worries that this news could spark a panic and riots if it gets out, but Goku assures him that they are the only two on Earth who know the truth. Gohan admonishes his father to tell no one else about it.

Videl calls out to Gohan from their house, telling them to come inside to talk. Goku explains he was just inviting Gohan to participate in a tournament, but Gohan does not want to go. Videl insists that Gohan be a good son and help his father. At that moment, Pan flies into her mother's arms, and Videl asks her if she had a good time at Mister Satan's house. After watching this scene, Gohan tells Goku he will fight. He has something to protect. Then Satan walks up with Majin Boo and Bee trailing behind him. Goku flies past Satan to ask Boo to do him a favor; Satan tells Goku that he will do whatever Goku needs, but Goku says he needs Boo for this favor.

A short time later, Goku is with Gohan, Majin Boo, and Mister Satan back in the Kaiōshin Realm. Beerus does not think much of this team, and asks why Satan is there; Satan explains that he is the only one Boo will listen to. Beerus asks Goku if they know about the consequences of the tournament; Goku tells him that only Gohan knows, because they do not want to cause a panic. Shin then transports everyone to the Omni-King's palace with the Kai-Kai technique. Beerus warns Satan and the others to not do anything out of turn.

In the corridor, they encounter the gods and warriors of Universe 9. Shin greets their gods, noting that it has been a long time since they have seen each other, and the Kaiōshin Rou smiles. Goku sizes up the Trio de Dangers, asking if these are the people they will be fighting, and Gohan says yes. The Great Priest arrives and tells them he will make a ring and seating for the matches. Reaching out a hand, he seems to conjure everything inside a void beneath the palace. Everyone falls onto one of two platforms for each universe which are positioned on either side of the fighting stage, while the Great Priest floats on his own platform. He calls for the gods of all the other universes, who float down on small observation platforms of their own. Each universe's Kaiōshin, God of Destruction, and Angel are present, and the universe eventually revealed to be Universe 11 has an extra, hooded person on their platform.

Goku calls out to Champa, who he has met before, and Satan begs him not to speak so casually to a god. Goku explains that they know each other, but the Great Priest asks him to be quiet. He then addresses all of the gods, who have already been informed about the upcoming Tournament of Power, and explains that the Future Omni-King is impatient to see what a martial arts tournament is like. He then announces the arrival of the Omni-Kings, and everyone bows formally, but Goku calls out to "Zen-chan", immediately sparking outrage from the other gods. Goku flies up to greet them, but Beerus follows after him, kicking him back to their platform and apologizing profusely to the Omni-Kings. Satan repeats his warnings, and Beerus agrees, reminding Goku that they will be erased. Satan questions this, and Beerus realizes he has said too much.

The gods chatter amongst themselves about Goku's interruption, but then the Great Priest announces that the tournament came about because of a proposition from Goku, and he invites Goku to say a few words. Goku explains that he heard there were a lot of strong guys out there he had never heard of, so he asked the Omni-King to host this tournament so he could fight them. The Omni-Kings ask him to show them a good fight, and he promises he will. The Great Priest tells the gods that the Zen Exhibition Match will consist of three consecutive one-on-one matches between representatives from Universe 7 and Universe 9. There will be no time limit; the matches will continue until one person concedes or is no longer able to fight.

Rou asks what the prize will be, and the Great Priest tells him there is no prize; they are only here to appease Future Omni-King, and if they fail in this task, the Great Priest warns that it might be cut short. Sidra asks whether they will be erased if the Omni-Kings are bored, and the Great Priest says this is possible. He then asks the first contestants to enter the ring. Basil announces he will go first for Universe 9, and Rou tells him that he is counting on him. Bergamo tells him it should be no sweat. Goku reminds Majin Boo that they had decided he would go first, but Boo has fallen asleep. Beerus asks Satan what he is there for, and Satan rushes to try to wake Boo. He manages to rouse Boo with a chocolate bar, telling Boo to go play with the dog in the ring. Satan promises him more chocolate, so Boo enters the ring, yawning.[4]

Majin Boo vs Basil

The Great Priest announces the start of the match, and a gong sounds. Basil and Boo exchange blows and Basil knocks Boo to the fighting stage, where he appears to be unconscious, but then Boo smiles.[4] Boo toys with Basil at first, not bothering to defend himself, and Basil thinks he has won the match, but Boo eventually fights him, showing how easily he can recover from what should be fatal injuries. When Mister Satan is injured by a stray blast, Boo becomes angry and gains the upper hand, knocking Basil out of the ring.

Goku and Beerus think that Boo has won the match, but the Omni-Kings are not satisfied with this result, so the Great Priest announces that the fight will continue until they are satisfied, or until one of the fighters cannot continue. Rou gives Basil some kind of healing drug, which Beerus believes is cheating, but Rou says this should be fair since Boo was able to heal himself. Beerus insists that Boo's natural ability should be allowed, but Basil should be disqualified; however, the Omni-Kings think this is boring, so the Great Priest again tells them to continue under the assumption that anything goes.

Rou warns Basil that there is no place for losers in Universe 9, so he continues fighting, the healing drug seeming to also act as a stimulant. Basil thinks he has defeated Boo once again with his finishing movie, "Wolfgang Pressure", but Boo emerges from the rubble and defeats Basil with a full-power Kamehameha. Gohan and Goku are surprised Basil is still standing after the attack, but Elder Kaiōshin observes that Basil is at his limit, and indeed, Basil collapses unconscious. The Omni-Kings are satisfied and Boo is declared the winner. The Great Priest clears the stage, returning Basil to his universe's podium. Sidra declares that Basil is pathetic, and Bergamo says they might have underestimated Universe 7.[5]

Son Gohan vs Lavenda

After the defeat of Basil, Rou is concerned that Lavenda will lose, but Lavenda thinks that, if he can kill his opponent, he has an advantage, and the Great Priest had declared during Basil's match that there were no rules. Bergamo tells Lavenda to kill to his heart's content.[5]

Early in the fight, Lavenda blows poison gas into Gohan's face, blinding him. He then breathes the poison gas onto his fists, where it seems to stick. Lavenda tells Gohan that if he is exposed to too much of the poison, his body will rot. Rou gloats, and Shin is disgusted. He tells Gohan to take a senzu; Rou gave Basil a healing drug, so it is only fair. However Gohan asks that no one interfere; he wants to win with his own strength. Bergamo wonders how long Gohan will last with the poison, but Goku asks Shin to hand over the senzu to him. Mister Satan is worried about Gohan, but Goku thinks this will be good training for him since he hasn't fought in a while.

Lavenda attempts to mislead Gohan about his position by speaking, telling Gohan again that the poison will gradually spread throughout his body until it rots, but Gohan meditates and tells himself not to be fooled by Lavenda's voice, to instead sense his movements and presence. Lavenda tries to sneak up on Gohan from behind, but Gohan senses his movements and blocks him, surprising Satan, Rou, and the Omni-Kings. Lavenda thinks it was a fluke, but Gohan continues to defend and attack without difficulty. Rou thinks this should be impossible, but Bergamo tells him that being blinded has heightened Gohan's other senses. Bergamo finds him a worthy opponent.

Lavenda is frustrated and tells Gohan he will kill him, taking to the air so that Gohan cannot sense his movements, then hitting Gohan with energy attacks from above. Again, Satan is worried but Goku thinks this is the best kind of training for Gohan. Rou tells Lavenda to finish him, but then Gohan transforms into a Super Saiyan, which makes him better able to sense where Lavenda is; the Omni-Kings are impressed by this form; Cae remarks on it, and Toppo realizes the Saiyans are beings that can manipulate their battle power. Lavenda thinks Gohan still won't be able to sense him, but he attacks and Gohan easily knocks everything away. Gohan tells Lavenda that his ki lets him know where Lavenda is; Goku is impressed, and Shin observes that Gohan is reflecting his ki off of Lavenda. Whis compares it to radar, but he says that using Super Saiyan in this way could be a double-edged sword. Goku realizes that Gohan should finish the fight soon. Gohan tries to put all of his power into a final attack, but he loses his transformation and collapses onto the fighting stage. Whis explains that the transformation accelerated the spread of the poison.

Lavenda attacks Gohan with even more poison and Gohan struggles to keep up. He tries taking to the air, but Lavenda chases after him. Gohan decides to risk transforming again to try his final attack one more time; Lavenda matches him, smiling as he watches the poison spread even more, but Gohan persists, flying directly into Lavenda's poison cloud to catch him in a full nelson and crash him into the fighting stage. Gohan stands and declares himself the winner, since Lavenda cannot stand at all, but then Gohan collapses again, and the Great Priest declares the fight a draw.[6]

Intermission

After the second match concludes, the Great Priest addresses the assembled gods, bearing a message from the Omni-Kings. They are pleased that universes with such low mortal levels have been able to entertain them so well. All twelve universes have been evaluated and ranked. Beerus wants to know how Universe 7 ranks; the Great Priest informs him that the average level of the inhabited planets in Universe 7 is 3.18, which puts Universe 7 second from the bottom. Whis wants to know which universe is at the bottom, but the Great Priest thinks it should be obvious. Rou realizes he means Universe 9; the Great Priest confirms this, telling Rou that their average mortal level is 1.86.

The Omni-Kings have long believed that there are too many universes, and Son Goku's proposition for the Tournament of Power provided them with an opportunity. The Great Priest informs the gods in attendance that the defeated universes in the Tournament of Power will be erased (消す) by the Omni-Kings. The gods chatter in disbelieve, and Rou wonders whether they will be erased for losing the Zen Exhibition Match, but the Great Priest assures him this is not the case. Mister Satan does not understand what is going on, and Shin asks the Great Priest to confirm whether all of the losing universes will be erased. The Great Priest answers that they will, but Universe 1, Universe 12, Universe 5, and Universe 8 are exempt from the tournament because their mortal levels are higher than 7. Whis asks the Great Priest to confirm that the Tournament of Power is designed to give one of the universes already slated for destruction a chance to survive, and the Great Priest thinks this is a fair interpretation.

The Omni-Kings tell everyone that they cannot wait for the Tournament of Power, and Goku agrees. Satan still does not understand, so Shin impatiently explains that if they lose, they will be erased, universe and all. Satan faints, and Majin Boo asks whether he is alright. Beerus tells Shin that this is his fault for being so hands-off and letting mortals develop on their own, and Shin counters that Beerus is the one who is always sleeping. The Great Priest is ready to move on to the third match, but the Elder Kaiōshin asks him to confirm what will happen to the gods if their universes lose. The Great Priest says that they will be erased at the same time, of course. Only the Angels will be spared. Beerus takes this as a betrayal from Whis, but Whis reminds him that their positions are quite different. Champa is also upset at Vados, who smiles and ignores him. The Great Priest tells everyone that this concludes his announcement, and it is time for the third and final match.

Goku is excited that it is finally his turn to fight, and Gohan wishes him luck. Bergamo joins Goku in the ring,[6] but the gods continue to chatter about the news that losing universes will be destroyed; Ea cannot believe it, and Helles fears this will be a terrifying fight. Champa asks why they cannot just run away from it, but Vados tells him that defying the Omni-Kings would have consequences.

Goku tells Bergamo they should go all out, since their universes are not at risk in this tournament, but Bergamo tells him to shut up and turns to address the gods in attendance. He introduces himself as the eldest brother of the Trio de Dangers, Bergamo the Crusher, from the universe with the lowest mortal level. He then points at Goku, proclaiming that Goku's level is far below that of Universe 9, and that without his desire for a tournament, they could have all lived in peace. He accuses Goku of being a fool who does not have a clue, which Goku finds offensive, but Bergamo tells him to be silent, further accusing him of being a devil and the enemy of all universes. Bergamo declares that he will crush Goku. He then kneels before the Omni-Kings, begging them to retract their plan to erase the defeated universes when he defeats Goku.

Rou praises Bergamo for his speech, and Basil and Lavenda cheer. Sidra says he is a smooth talker. Meanwhile, Beerus is frustrated that Bergamo is making Goku out to be the bad guy, and Whis observes that Bergamo's words are influencing the onlookers toward resentment for Goku, which Whis finds underhanded. Helles thinks Goku should not have involved himself, and the other gods are muttering angrily. The Great Priest asks the Omni-Kings what they think of Bergamo's proposal, and as they consider, Bergamo gloats that the entire cosmos is against him now. Goku does not care; he enjoys fighting more with this kind of tension.

The Omni-Kings tell Bergamo they have reached a decision. They liked his speech, which causes Rou and his brothers to weep tears of joy. Bergamo thanks the Omni-Kings, and the Great Priest announces that if Universe 9 wins this tournament, the consequences of losing the Tournament of Power will be rescinded. The Great Priest warns Goku not to hold back just to see Bergamo's wish granted, or the Omni-Kings will erase everything. Goku says that is fine with him, because he does not like losing. He will fight seriously. Beerus wonders whether Goku understands what is happening, but Whis thinks he is just making the best of a bad situation.

Cae asks Toppo what he thinks of Goku, and Vermoud thinks that Goku is not the kind of person that Toppo would tolerate, but Toppo wishes to reserve judgment until after he has seen Goku fight to the fullest. As Champa boos Goku, Ea asks him who Goku is and why he is so irreverent with the Omni-Kings. Helles also wants to know why they and the Great Priest put up with it. Kur thinks this is especially difficult to understand considering the low mortal level of Universe 7. Champa tells them that he does not know; there is a lot about Goku that is difficult to understand. Champa then calls out to Universe 1, commenting on their lack of concern. Anat laughs and reminds them that they are exempt from the Tournament of Power. Ogma adds that their high mortal level shows that their diving guidance is good. Ag believes it also implies that their levels as gods are higher, and Il says they do not even need to ask about their universes' levels. Champa is annoyed that the exempt universes have nothing to worry about.[7]

Son Goku vs Bergamo

As Son Goku and Bergamo circle each other in the ring, the Great Priest announces the beginning of the match. They exchange blows for a short time until Goku barely stops Bergamo from poking out his eyes. They compliment each other on their skills, but Bergamo tells him it ends here. He stretches out his arms and invites Goku to hit him, so he can show him why he is called "Bergamo the Crusher". Gohan cannot believe that Bergamo has left himself unguarded; Shin thinks this is reckless considering his opponent. Goku takes Bergamo's invitation, punching him in the chest once, and then repeatedly, leaving several indentations on Bergamo's chest. Bergamo then absorbs them all, and his entire form grows larger. He attacks Goku with powered-up fists, pushing Goku back. Goku tries to attack, but Bergamo only grows larger. He invites Goku to hit him more, but when Goku attacks, he is hit instead and knocked to the ground.

Gohan warns his father to be more careful; Bergamo is using his power. Goku agrees with his assessment. Rou gloats yet again that Bergamo can convert attacks to power for himself and counter them with double strength. His strength is "through the roof". (Bergamo's brothers join Rou in pointing skyward.) Goku thinks that this is exactly the sort of person he has been wanting to fight. He transforms into a Super Saiyan and attacks Bergamo again, and Bergamo continues to absorb his power, returning it to him with blows of increased strength. Goku tells Bergamo that this power actually is not that original. This makes Bergamo angry, and he attacks Goku with a blast. Goku dodges it and kicks Bergamo in the head, but Bergamo responds with a kick and multiple blasts.

They exchange blows back and forth, and Bergamo continues to grow larger. Rou laughs and tells Goku that it does not matter how much he attacks; the more Bergamo gets hit, the stronger he grows. Bergamo mocks Goku for dodging him, though he cannot blame him since his attacks are useless. The Omni-Kings are amazed that Goku is being pushed back, but Goku laughs, causing Shin and Gohan to wonder what is going on. Bergamo gets annoyed and threatens to blow Goku away, but Goku meets his blow and bounces off, landing on Bergamo's back. Bergamo does not know where he has gone. Goku drops to the ground and kicks Bergamo in the back of the knee, causing him to fall over. He tells Bergamo that his increased size means he has more blind spots, and that he should be more careful.

Bergamo grows angry and tries to attack Goku again, but Goku dodges, goading him to get even stronger while firing a volley of blasts at his head. Bergamo blocks them, absorbing their power, and Mister Satan asks Gohan what Goku is up to. Gohan explains that Goku's excitement increases with the strength of his opponent, so he is making Bergamo stronger on purpose. Beerus thinks that Saiyans are bothersome like that. Goku pushes Bergamo toward the edge of the ring where his weight causes the floor to crumble underneath him. Bergamo manages to stay in the ring, and Goku asks him if he can get any stronger. Bergamo attacks Goku in rage, and Goku laughs, powering up to Super Saiyan Blue. Cae immediately recognizes the pressure of divine power, and Vermoud is agape. Rou cannot believe that Goku has the power of a god, and Sidra realizes that this Goku should not be underestimated. Future Omni-King is impressed, and Present Omni-King explains that this is Super Saiyan Blue.

Goku tells Bergamo that their fight is not over yet. He is going to give Bergamo some extra-big power. Using the Kaiō-Ken technique, Goku charges a Kamehameha. Bergamo thinks Goku is bluffing, and Goku laughs excitedly when Bergamo meets his Kamehameha with his own Wolfgang Penetrator, but Goku gathers all of his strength and quickly overcomes Bergamo's attack. Bergamo returns to his normal size, and Goku asks him what is wrong; can they not continue fighting? Bergamo says that Universe 7 is unbelievable, and he collapses on the arena floor. The Great Priest announces the end of the match, proclaiming Goku as the winner. Rou is distraught, and Bergamo's brothers rush to the arena to assist him.

The Omni-Kings are very impressed with Goku's strength. Goku calls out to them, telling them he did not hold back. They tell him that was fun. Beerus sighs in relief, and Whis observes that Bergamo gave it his all, but Goku defeated him with even more power; he really does love fighting on the edge. Satan calls out to congratulate Goku, but Elder Kaiōshin is not sure this is a good thing; they still have to worry about the Tournament of Power.

As Bergamo's brothers rush to his side, Goku complains that he never got to see Bergamo's true power because he was using Goku's power. He wants to see Bergamo get serious at the Tournament of Power. Bergamo thinks Goku really is a villain, since he is awfully eager to see all the universes erased. He promises that Universe 7 will be the first to be erased, since all of the other universes will be coming after him. He continues to shout invectives as his brothers drag him away, insisting that they will be the universe to survive. Goku turns to face the gods and challenges them to bring all of their strongest fighters; he will defeat them all. This causes an uproar amongst the gods, but Gohan smiles at his father's nerve. The Great Priest asks Future Omni-King what he thought about the exhibition match; both of the Omni-Kings agree that it was great fun, and they cannot wait until the Tournament of Power. The Great Priest declares to all the gods that the Zen Exhibition Match was a success.[7]

Son Goku vs Toppo

After the Great Priest takes a moment to explain the rules of the Tournament of Power, Toppo excuses himself to his gods and jumps down to the ring. The Omni-Kings perk up, and their guards pop up to shield them. The Great Priest also places himself between the Omni-Kings and Toppo, inquiring after Toppo's identity. Toppo apologizes for being discourteous and begs forgiveness as he removes his cloak, telling Goku that he would like to speak to him. The Omni-Kings complain that they cannot see, so their protectors back out of their line of sight. Toppo introduces himself as the Warrior of Freedom, leader of the Pride Troopers and protector of Universe 11, and challenges Goku to a fight. He proclaims that if Goku has evil intent, then Toppo's fist will be his ruin. This sounds good to Goku, since Bergamo was not really a challenge for him. Toppo says that it is his heart's desire to slay evil. Goku seems amused that Toppo thinks he is evil, and he thinks this fight should be good.[7] Goku says if he is evil, then Toppo must be a hero of justice, and Toppo tells him to shut up. Goku asks if he wants to let their fists do the talking, and Toppo says yes, but he will be doing all the talking. Goku says that is fine with him.

Beerus asks who Toppo is, and Whis says that he appears to be a self-appointed hero of justice. Vermoud is impressed with Toppo's sense of justice, but his Angel Markarita wonders whether it is correct to call Goku evil. Cae tells Vermoud that they should view this fight as an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of their universe and show that they will be the ones to survive the Tournament of Power, and Vermoud agrees. Cae asks the Omni-Kings to forgive their rudeness. He introduces himself and explains that he gained an admiration for Goku through his performance in the match with Bergamo, and asks the Omni-Kings to allow Toppo, who has accompanied him as his bodyguard, to fight Goku. He and Vermoud both bow. The Great Priest asks the Omni-Kings whether they will allow the fight, and they are happy to oblige. The Great Priest announces their decision and tells Toppo and Goku to fight to their hearts' content.

Acknowledging their permission, Goku begins by transforming into a Super Saiyan, and he tells Toppo that he is ready for him. Toppo pronounces that he will eliminate Goku for having brought danger upon all the universes. Goku mocks him for continuing to talk after telling Goku to shut up earlier. As they stare each other down, Beerus worries that Goku is giving the other universes an opportunity to study his fighting style, but Whis points out they will be able to study Toppo as well. Mister Satan cheers Goku on, reminding him that big muscle guys are always weak, but Gohan disagrees. He tells Satan that Toppo is pretty strong. As Toppo begins to power up, Goku says that he has goosebumps, Toppo is so intimidating. He thanks Toppo for giving him the excitement he has been waiting for, but Toppo says he has no need for gratitude from an evildoer. Gohan says that even his Saiyan blood is pumping for this fight, and Beerus complains that both of them are a bothersome.

Toppo poses and introduces himself formally again as the leader of the Pride Troopers, proclaiming his love for his people, land, world, and universe. His iron fists of justice (正義/seigi) will crush all manner of evil. Beerus complains that Toppo is setting them up as the bad guys, and Whis dryly responds that being a hero of justice is hard work. Gohan thinks he is cool. Toppo announces that he is coming for Goku, and attacks. He immediately gets behind Goku's defenses, standing on his shoulders and using Justice Tornado to spin Goku around in the air. Goku breaks free, but Toppo attacks again, bending Goku's arm back with Justice Crusher. (These attacks use the English term, ジャスティス/jasutisu.) Whis notes that Toppo is more nimble than his physique would suggest, and Beerus agrees; he effortlessly dislocated Goku's shoulder. Beerus thinks he might specialize in joint lock techniques. Goku flips around, though, kicking Toppo in the face and breaking free. He pops his shoulder back in place with a grimace, laughing as he assumes a stance again. Toppo says he will tolerate no laughter from evildoers, and promises that justice will be served. The gods chatter loudly amongst themselves, and the Omni-Kings take up the "Justice!" (ジャスティス) chant. Shin laments that the crowd seems to favor Universe 11.

Goku announces that it is his turn and powers up, attacking Toppo hand-to-hand. He tells Toppo that he will not allow any more of those joint lock techniques, and Toppo tells him that instead he can try out the Justice Flash technique, shooting rapid-fire blasts from his fingertips. He chases Goku around the ring, telling him that evil will not escape the light of justice (正義). Goku meets Toppo's final blast with one of his own, and as he is catching his breath, Toppo grabs him in a hold from behind, which Vermoud names the Justice Rear Naked Choke. Cae says it is Toppo's ultimate finishing hold, and Markarita says that he will not let go until all of his opponents bones are broken. She recommends that they surrender, and Whis recommends in turn that she stop saying "desu masu yo" at the end of all her sentences. ("Noble sirs" in the English dub.)

Goku continues to scream under Toppo's chokehold, and Satan cannot watch anymore, thinking about Goku's bones. Goku loses his Super Saiyan transformation, and Toppo tells him to sink into the abyss. Evildoers must die! Toppo proclaims that Goku is doomed because evil does not stand a chance against justice. Beerus cannot believe that Universe 11 was harboring someone so strong. He demands to know if Gohan understands what will happen if Goku loses, and Gohan says he knows. Beerus backs off, his anger deflated, and Gohan smiles. The gods all watch stoically as Goku screams, and Toppo announces that it is time to end this. Vermoud cheers him on, telling him to crush Goku, but Gohan smiles again. Goku powers up to Super Saiyan Blue, breaking free. Toppo is shocked that Goku had any strength left. He tries to attack Goku again, but he cannot land a hit. Goku lands a punch on his face, though, and a few successive hits besides. Beerus is thrilled, and Gohan says it is no less than he expected.

Toppo says that justice will never yield, and the fight continues with rapid hand-to-hand that the Omni-Kings can barely follow. Goku charges a Kamehameha, and Toppo responds with Justice Flash, but Goku teleports out of the way of harm, reappearing at point-blank range, where he releases the Kamehameha. Beerus wonders whether Goku has killed Toppo, and Whis thinks Goku got a little too serious. The gods of Universe 11 are peeved, and the Omni-Kings are entertained. When the dust clears, Toppo is still standing, and Goku chuckles. Toppo is angry that Goku has damaged his bespoke Pride Trooper uniform; only Pride Troopers are allowed to wear them, and Goku has therefore damaged their pride. Toppo powers up further, promising to teach Goku a lesson in true justice. Goku tells him to bring it on, as he taps into the power of Kaiō-ken, offering to give Toppo a taste of power beyond his limits.

The Great Priest notices that the Omni-Kings are shaking with excitement, and he grows concerned. He tells Toppo and Goku, "That is enough!" Toppo and Goku release their excess power in confusion, and the Omni-Kings complain that they wanted to see Goku break his limits. The Great Priest explains that this fight could end in someone's death, and that would ruin the Tournament of Power. He suggests the Omni-Kings save this kind of fight for the main event. They ask him if the tournament will be even more exciting, and he assures them that it will be. They consider, and then announce their decision: the Zen Exhibition Match is concluded.

Goku complains that it was just getting interesting, and Shin tells him not to talk back to the Omni-Kings. Goku accepts their decision, releasing his Super Saiyan Blue transformation. He approaches Toppo, telling him he was surprised to encounter someone so strong, and now he is really looking forward to the tournament. He offers his hand, suggesting they fight all out at the tournament. Toppo shuns the offering, turning his back to Goku. He says he will not take the hand of an enemy. Goku is confused, but Toppo goes on to say that, though he hates to bring joy to an evil person, he feels he should tell Goku that he is not the strongest fighter in Universe 11. That would be Jiren the Gray, his sworn ally. If Goku and Toppo are evenly matched, then Goku has no hope of beating Jiren. Goku returns to the Universe 7 platform, where Gohan congratulates him on his fight, and Goku tells them what Toppo said about Jiren. Gohan notes that Universe 11 sure seems like the universe to watch out for, and Beerus is annoyed. Goku cannot wait for the tournament, but Beerus lashes out, telling him all excitement is forbidden until after the tournament. Cae congratulates Toppo for a job well done, and Toppo apologizes for being unable to defeat Goku, but Vermoud assures him that his fights are always entertaining. Toppo thanks him, and Vermoud asks if he thinks he can beat Goku at the Tournament of Power. Toppo says he is not sure, but if he fails, there is always Jiren. Justice will never yield.

The Great Priest announces that he has to begin preparing the fighting arena for the Tournament of Power. He tells them it will take some time to complete. He reminds the gods that the tournament will be held on 157th hour of the 3,135,500,603rd day of the Royal Calendar. Goku asks him how long it will be before the arena is completed, and he says it will be about five ticks. Goku is confused, so the Great Priest explains that this is about 40 hours in Earth time. Goku is dismayed that they have so little time, and the gods chatter worriedly amongst themselves. The Great Priest says that they are dismissed, and the gods disappear from their platforms. Before the Universe 6 gods disappear, Champa wonders whether Hit might be one of ten brothers, and Vados tells him that is lazy thinking. Beerus cannot believe they only have forty hours. He asks Whis what he thinks about the upcoming fight, and Whis thinks that everyone will be going after Goku first, which Beerus finds terrifying. Goku says goodbye to the Omni-Kings, and they tell him "Bye-cha!" Shin teleports them all back to the Kaiōshin realm.[8]
