Ea is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Ea makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the Kaiōshin of Universe 3.

Biography

Ea is influenced by machine-loving mortals and particularly interested in machine life-form robots who have surpassed mortal evolution.

Zen Exhibition Match

When the Great Priest informs the gods of each universe about the upcoming Tournament of Power, he invites them to attend the Zen Exhibition Match to sate the curiosity of the Omni-King from the future, who has never seen a martial arts tournament. The Great Priest creates an arena in a void that appears to be located beneath the Omni-King's palace, and then brings in the gods from all the other universes to observe the match. Ea is in attendance with Mosco and Camparri, the God of Destruction and Angel of Universe 3.

When the Great Priest informs the gods that losing universes will be destroyed in the Tournament of Power, Ea is shocked. Bergamo of Universe 9 makes a speech denouncing Son Goku for his role in making the tournament happen. He asks the Omni-Kings to reconsider their plans if he wins his match against Goku, and the Omni-Kings agree. As Champa boos Goku, Ea asks him who Goku is and why he is so irreverent with the Omni-Kings. Helles also wants to know why they and the Great Priest put up with it. Kur thinks this is especially difficult to understand considering the low mortal level of Universe 7. Champa tells them that he does not know; there is a lot about Goku that is difficult to understand.

After the Great Priest explains that the Tournament of Power will be a melee, Ea is perturbed; he cannot believe that the fate of the universes rests on a single fight.

After the exhibition match is concluded, Cae hosts a video call meeting of all the Kaiōshin from the Universe 11 Kaiōshin Realm. He asks them all to keep the news about the Tournament of Power secret from the inhabitants of their universes. Gowasu agrees that this is a good idea, but he wonders where Shin is. Cae explains that he excluded Shin because the tournament was Universe 7's idea. Rou says that Cae is wasting their time; he is busy trying to find more fighters for the tournament, and he leaves the call. Huwa yawns ostentatiously, and Peru admonishes him. The tournament sounds fun, and he is sure that Universe 2 will survive. Ea disagrees; Universe 3 has intellect. Peru says that only battle power matters. Ea says he cannot stand musclebound idiots. Peru and Ea continue to bicker, and Cae asks them to calm down. Kur finds their display pathetic.

Cae proposes that they ask the Omni-Kings to reconsider the tournament; surely if they tell him their consensus opinion, he will give them a reprieve until they can raise their mortal levels above 7. Ea and Peru think this is foolish; the Omni-Kings have already decided. Kur warns that if the suggestion displeases the Omni-Kings, they could all be erased on the spot. Kur says that he is busy, Huwa yawns again, and Gowasu says he agrees with Kur. The Kaiōshin all leave the call.

Name

Ea's name pun is unknown, but many Kaiōshin appear to have been named after deities, and Ea (エア/Ea)—a water god of Babylonian mythology, also known as "Enki" in Sumerian mythology—is a likely source for his name.

Performance

Ea is voiced by Makoto Naruse, a newcomer to Dragon Ball who also voices Murisam in the Tournament of Power. In the FUNimation dub, Ea is voiced by Alfie Coy in his first credited role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
