Abra is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball universe, introduced in the Dragon Ball Daima television series as the former Great Demon King of the Demon Realm, and the father of Dabra. Abra is first mentioned in Dragon Ball Daima episode 1, and first seen in Dragon Ball Daima episode 10, which debuted 13 December 2024 on Fuji TV.
Biography
As Great Demon King of the Demon Realm, Abra possesses the Evil Third Eye, which grants the user great power when worn on the forehead.[1]
Fearing potential threats from outside the Demon Realm, Abra imposes limits upon the usage of Warp-sama, the creature that enables travel between the Demon Realm and the Dragon World. Most of the remaining Glind in the Demon Realm revolt against Abra and escape to the outside world.[2]
Intending to overthrow his father, Abra's son Dabra has a thief steal the Evil Third Eye from the safe it is kept in. Though the thief gets killed and the Eye gets lost, Dabra is able to defeat the now less powerful Abra and take his place as the new Great Demon King.[3]
Name
Abra likely shares a name pun source with his son Dabra, both taken from the magical phrase "abracadabra" (アブラカダブラ aburakadabura). For Abra's name, the first ア was extended (アー) to make アーブラ (Ābura). Another character named "Abra" (アブラ abura) appears in Toyotarō's Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission manga series, spelled without the extended first syllable.
It is also possible that Abra's name is inspired by "lard/fat" (脂 abura) and/or "oil" (油 abura), which would line up with Gomah's name coming from "sesame" as in "sesame oil" (ごま油 goma abura).
