Bardock is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. Bardock makes his debut in the first Dragon Ball Z television special feature, but was later incorporated into the manga series in chapter 307, published in the 1991 #5 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump. Bardock is a Saiyan from the Planet Vegeta, who is notable for having confronted Freeza.

Biography

Bardock is a Saiyan who lived on Planet Vegeta. He is father to Raditz and Son Goku (née "Kakarrot") and the husband of Gine.

Dragon Ball Minus

A month before the destruction of his homeworld, Bardock and all other Saiyans received an order from Freeza to return to Planet Vegeta. Suspecting Freeza's motives for this order, he and Gine arranged to have their son Kakarrot sent to Earth.

A Final, Solitary Battle

Alongside his crew consisting of Toma, Selypa, Pumbukin and Totapo, Bardock works to eliminate the natives of Planet Kanassa. In an act of vengeance, a surviving Kanassan curses Bardock with visions of the fate of his own people. Upon his return to Planet Vegeta, Bardock is kept under surveillance due to abnormal brain wave patterns while Toma and the others are sent to Planet Meat. While in the healing tank, Bardock is haunted by visions of Planet Vegeta's destruction as well as visions of his newborn son growing up on a distant planet.

When Bardock is given the all clear to join his comrades, he finds them slain on the battlefield by Freeza's men. After barely surviving an encounter with Dodoria, Bardock returned home to warn the other Saiyans of their impending demise at the hands of Freeza. However, none of the other Saiyans believe his claims, leading him to confront Freeza alone.

Bardock's confrontation with the tyrant ultimately proves to be fruitless as he is seemingly wiped out alongside his planet, albeit reassured by his visions that Kakarrot will someday take vengeance on his behalf.

Episode of Bardock

Following Planet Vegeta's destruction, Bardock finds himself in the distant past on Planet Plant, the planet that will eventually become Planet Vegeta. After being treated by a local doctor named Ipana and his son Berry, Bardock defeates a pair of space pirates who have been causing trouble for the local village. Bardock then takes up residence in a nearby cave.

Upon the arrival of Chilled, the leader of the space pirates, Bardock is summoned back to the village by Berry. Upon seeing Chilled, Bardock mistakes him for Freeza and attacks him in a rage. After seemingly being defeated by Chilled, Bardock's rage continues to boil over leading him to transform into a Super Saiyan, which gives him the power necessary to defeat Chilled. Having finally avenged his comrades with his victory, Bardock walks off into the sunset.
