Cheelye is a fictional character who makes her debut in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly theatrical film.

Biography

Cheelye is a new recruit in the Freeza Army. She joined up for protection after she stole a spaceship from the Galactic Patrol. She undertakes a mission with a veteran named Lemo to find strong recruits for the Freeza Army in exchange for a reward. As they pass by a planetoid known as Planet Vampa, they intercept a distress signal from an older-model Freeza Army ship. Hoping to rescue someone for a reward, they make landing on the planet.

As they disembark, a Saiyan named Paragus desperately runs out to meet them, asking if they are with the Freeza Army. Lemo recognizes him as a Saiyan, but Cheelye does not know what that is. Paragus introduces himself, explaining that has been stranded on Vampa since his ship crashed many years ago. Cheelye reads his battle power at 4200, much higher than she expected from such an old man.

Name

Cheelye's name is likely an anagram of the katakana transliteration of the English word "lychee" (レイシ/raichi). This name pun follows the theme of Freeza Army characters being named after items found in a refrigerator.[1]

This particular name pun has been used twice previously without the anagram in Toei Animation original material. One of antagonists in the Fake Namek filler episodes was named Raichi, and another character named Doctor Raichi was an antagonist in Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.

Production

Performance

Cheelye is voiced by Nana Mizuki in her first role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
