Basil is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Basil makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as one of the chosen representatives of Universe 9 in the Zen Exhibition Match.
Biography
Also known as "Kicker Basil", he is a fast and agile warrior who specializes in footwork and the youngest brother of Trio the Dangers, after Bergamo and Lavenda.[1] The Trio's ki cannot be sensed by other fighters.[2]
Zen Exhibition Match
Basil represents Universe 9 in the first fight of the Zen Exhibition Match versus Majin Boo of Universe 7. Boo toys with Basil at first, not bothering to defend himself, and Basil thinks he has won the match, but Boo eventually fights him, showing how easily he can recover from what should be fatal injuries. When Mister Satan is injured by a stray blast, Boo becomes angry and gains the upper hand, knocking Basil out of the ring.
Goku and Beerus think that Boo has won the match, but the Omni-Kings are not satisfied with this result, so the Great Priest announces that the fight will continue until they are satisfied, or until one of the fighters cannot continue. Rou gives Basil some kind of healing drug, which Beerus believes is cheating, but Rou says this should be fair since Boo was able to heal himself. Beerus insists that Boo's natural ability should be allowed, but Basil should be disqualified; however, the Omni-Kings think this is boring, so the Great Priest again tells them to continue under the assumption that anything goes.
Rou warns Basil that there is no place for losers in Universe 9, so he continues fighting, the healing drug seeming to also act as a stimulant. Basil thinks he has defeated Boo once again with his finishing movie, "Wolfgang Pressure", but Boo emerges from the rubble and defeats Basil with a full-power Kamehameha. Gohan and Goku are surprised Basil is still standing after the attack, but Elder Kaiōshin observes that Basil is at his limit, and indeed, Basil collapses unconscious. The Omni-Kings are satisfied and Boo is declared the winner. The Great Priest clears the stage, returning Basil to his universe's podium. Sidra declares that Basil is pathetic, and Bergamo says they might have underestimated Universe 7.[2] Basil then supports Lavenda and Bergamo in their fights against Gohan and Goku.[3][4]
After the Zen Exhibition Match, Mohito accompanies Sidra to check in on the Trio de Dangers, who are trying to recruit fighters for the Tournament of Power, but the world they have visited has erupted in violent chaos. Mohito asks what is going on, and Basil apologizes while Lavenda explains that news of the universe's impending destruction has led to riots. Bergamo says that these people intend to abandon Universe 9 for another universe, which seems to make Mohito angry. Sidra asks how many warriors they have managed to recruit, and Basil tells him none. This makes Mohito even angrier, and Sidra uses Destruction on the rioting city, reducing it to a crater. He tells them that this world is hopeless, and that they should go somewhere else.[5]
Tournament of Power

Basil is one of the ten fighters representing Universe 9 at the Tournament of Power. He eliminates Rylibeu of Universe Ten,[6] and he and his brothers are the last members of their universe to be eliminated.[7] They are knocked out of the ring by the Final Kamehameha of Goku and Vegeta.[8] Basil's universe is erased by the Omni-Kings, but they are revived by Super Shenlong thanks to No. 17's wish at the conclusion of the tournament.[9]
Name
Basil (バジル/bajiru) is an aromatic annual herb of the mint family, native to tropical Asia, which is typically used as a culinary herb, especially in Mediterranean dishes.[10]
Performance
Basil is voiced by Tsuyoshi Koyama, who had previously only voiced a Babarian in Universe 10.[11][12] In the FUNimation English dub, Basil is voiced by Jeff Plunk in his first role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
