Rylibeu is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Rylibeu makes her debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 90, broadcast on 14 May 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Universe 10 team.

Biography

Rylibeu is a female warrior with beautiful butterfly-like wings. In the Tournament of Power, Basil's intense kick breaks her wings and she is blown out of the ring.[1][2]

Tournament of Power

Rylibeu is recruited for the Tournament of Power by Rumoosh, the God of Destruction of Universe 10. As the leader of the team, Mulithim introduces the otherwise-hooded members including Rylibeu to his Kaiōshin Gowasu, demonstrating their dedication to a regular protein intake in order to build strength.[3]

Rylibeu's anime character design for the Tournament of Power.[1]

The Angel Kusu leads the team in a dance to foster team unity, while Gowasu records. He plans to upload it as a video entitled "Us Dancing" on GodTube, and hopes it will get a lot of views.[4]

The team is next seen when they are transported to the World of Void by the Great Priest. When Whis explains to the Universe 7 team that they will not be able to fly, and Goku verifies that he cannot, No. 17 notices Rylibeu and her teammate Dium flying.[5] The Great Priest later explains that warriors with wings are allowed to fly.[2]

After Basil disables Narirama, Rylibeu attacks from the air. Basil has trouble dodging her airborne attacks, but he forces her out of the ring with two Shining Blaster attacks, making her the first contestant to be eliminated. Gowasu and Rumoosh watch in horror as she falls screaming into the World of Void, but then she appears on the bench in front of them. The Turtle Hermit is relieved to learn that fallen warriors are transported safely to the stands.

The Great Priest announces Rylibeu's elimination, and tells the Omni-Kings that it is time for them to use their GodPads. They take them out and navigate to the Universe 10 page to tap Rylibeu's picture, marking her elimination. Rylibeu thinks she is a disgrace, and Rumoosh agrees, asking her why she did not use her wings. She apologizes, saying it happened so quickly, she did not think to fly. Rumoosh is embarrassed that the first loser is from his universe and blames Rylibeu for making him look foolish. Gowasu tells him to look on the bright side: they have nine warriors left. He tells Rylibeu to cheer on her teammates, so that is what she does.[2]

After the elimination of Obni, Universe 10 is erased.[6] When No. 17 uses the Super Dragon Balls to restore all of the destroyed universes, Rylibeu is seen with her teammates and Gowasu in the Kaiōshin realm of Universe 10.[7]

Name

Rylibeu's name is likely derived from the element Beryllium (ベリリウム), an alkaline earth metal with the atomic number 4. This pun follows the theme of Universe 10 warriors being named after elements of the periodic table.[8]

Production

Kusu leads the Universe 10 team in a dance.[4]

In Dragon Ball Super Episode 90, the Universe 10 team appears hooded, with the exception of Mulithim. They remain hooded in Episode 91, suggesting that their designs had not yet been finalized when animation began on these episodes.

Performance

Rylibeu is voiced by Masumi Asano, who also voices Cocoa Amaguri and Helles, the God of Destruction of Universe 2. In the FUNimation dub, Rylibeu is voiced by Krystal LaPorte, who has previously been credited under "Additional Voices" for Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' and Dragon Ball Super Episode 27.
