Rumoosh is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Rumoosh makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 78, broadcast on 12 February 2017 on Fuji TV, as the God of Destruction of Universe 10.

Biography

Rumoosh is a relatively lazy God of Destruction who doesn't like to destroy planets because he finds it to be too much trouble. He likes people who fawn over him for being a God of Destruction.[2]

In the manga continuity, Rumoosh has a Battle Roar powerful enough to paralyze the Gods of Destruction (and others on their level, like Goku), and knock the Kaiōshin unconscious.[3] Rumoosh does not display this skill in the anime, but Champa does something similar in Dragon Ball Super Episode 28.

Tournament of Power

Rumoosh's character design for the Tournament of Power.[2]

When the Great Priest informs the gods of each universe about the upcoming Tournament of Power, he invites them to attend the Zen Exhibition Match to sate the curiosity of the Omni-King from the future, who has never seen a martial arts tournament. The Great Priest creates an arena in a void that appears to be located beneath the Omni-King's palace, and then brings in the gods from all the other universes to observe the match. Rumoosh is in attendance with Gowasu and Kusu, the Kaiōshin and Angel of Universe 10.[4]

After the conclusion of the Zen Exhibition Match, Champa calls a video meeting of all the Gods of Destruction from his location in the Universe 6 Kaiōshin Realm. He tells them that the Kaiōshin have just had a meeting, and asks the other Gods of Destruction whether they are planning anything shady for the Tournament of Power. Rumoosh scoffs, and Helles says they would never do anything so ugly. Sidra seems angry, Vermoud laughs, and Quitela says that of course they will not cheat; if the Omni-Kings were to find out, they would be erased. With Camparri interpreting, Mosco asks why they have not invited Beerus, and Helles seconds his question. Champa does not want to answer, but Quitela surmises that Beerus was not invited because Son Goku is from his universe, and the tournament was his idea.

Vados reminds everyone that they are in Goku's debt; if he had not proposed the tournament, then all of their universes would have been erased; Goku has given them a chance to survive. Sidra is unconvinced; watching Goku at the Zen Exhibition Match irritated him greatly. Rumoosh agrees; Goku's irreverence with the Omni-Kings was unforgivable. Even still, Helles finds Goku to be very attractive. Vermoud laughs again; he believes that Universe 7 is no match for the warriors of Universe 11, like the Pride Troopers and their leader Toppo.[5]

Later, Gowasu is distressed because he does not know how to find fighters for the tournament. He worries after the Zamasu incident that his instincts are bad. Rumoosh tells him he is overthinking it; Gowasu feels he has no choice, but Rumoosh advises to think with the body rather than the mind. Gowasu does not understand, but then Kusu introduces the muscle-men Rumoosh has chosen, starting with Mulithim, the only non-hooded warrior. Gowasu reluctantly concedes and tells Mulithim he is counting on them. Looking at a pocketwatch, Mulithim tells everyone it is time for their protein drinks. They all drink, and Mulithim explains that this is necessary for keeping a brawny body.[6] Kusu then leads the team members in a dance to foster unity. Gowasu records it for GodTube, hoping it will get a lot of views.[7]

Name

Rumoosh is likely derived from "rum" (ラム酒 ramushu), a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane byproducts. The character name writes the 酒 (しゅ/shu, meaning "alcohol" or "liquor") in katakana, drops its syllable modification, and adds a vowel elongation. This pun follows the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages.[8]

Performance

Rumoosh is voiced by Yasuhiko Kawazu, who played several minor roles in Dragon Ball Z. Kawazu also voiced Mister Popo in Dragon Ball Kai and in the Tournament of Power, he gives his voice to Zarbuto of Universe Two. In the Funimation dub, Rumoosh is voiced by Oliver Tull in his first role for the Dragon Ball franchise.
