Obni is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Obni makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 90, broadcast on 14 May 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Universe 10 team.
Biography
Obni excels in ki control, toying with his opponent by creating a gap between his internal ki and his body movements. Although he puts up a good fight against his opponent Gohan in the Tournament of Power, he is blown out by a Kamehameha.[1][2]
Tournament of Power

Obni is recruited for the Tournament of Power by Rumoosh, the God of Destruction of Universe 10. As the leader of the team, Mulithim introduces the otherwise-hooded members including Obni to his Kaiōshin Gowasu, demonstrating their dedication to a regular protein intake in order to build strength.[3] The Angel Kusu leads the team in a dance to foster team unity, while Gowasu records. He plans to upload it as a video entitled "Us Dancing" on GodTube, and hopes it will get a lot of views.[4]
The team is next seen when they are transported to the World of Void by the Great Priest.[5] After the tournament begins, Obni briefly fights Tupper of Universe 11.[6] Later he and Nigrissi of Universe 3 are seen fighting Vegeta, but Vegeta abandons them when he sees that Goku is being ganged up on by Universe 9 warriors.[7] Obni is seen again dodging Kale's blast during her berserker rampage.[8] He also falls prey to the Love attack from Universe 2's Maiden Squadron; when he inhales, he is overcome with emotions.[9]
After Gohan eliminates Botamo of Universe 6, Obni compliments him on his fight, and introduces himself and his teammate Rubalt. Obni thinks Gohan is a warrior worthy of his attention, while Rubalt challenges Piccolo. After the elimination of Zircor, Rumoosh tells Obni and Rubalt that they are the last hope of Universe 10. Obni pledges to protect their universe.

Gohan notes that Obni's stance leaves no openings, and that he will have to stay on his guard. Obni attacks, and after an exchange of blows, Obni is impressed that Gohan is following him, and says he has been waiting for a warrior like Gohan. Then Obni begins to disguise his ki; Gohan can sense him, but cannot locate him to attack. Obni lands two blows on Gohan, putting him down temporarily. Gowasu thinks there might be hope for Universe 10 after all.
Whis explains that Obni shifts his ki to prevent enemies like Gohan, trained to sense ki, from reading his movements. After Piccolo eliminates Rubalt, the Omni-Kings note that Goku's son is getting beat up by Obni. Gohan powers up, and Obni compliments his determination, calling him a true warrior. This time, Gohan allows Obni to hit him to learn his location. Whis observes that this method will cause Gohan to take damage every time he gets hit. Obni is impressed, and he asks for Gohan's name. Gohan gives it to him, and Obni says he is grateful to have met him, but he carries the fate of Universe 10 on his shoulders. He fights to protect. They fight again, and Gohan starts landing blows; Whis observes that Obni used too much energy for his feints. Finally, Gohan pushes Obni out of the arena with a Kamehameha.
After Obni's elimination, Gowasu compliments him on a job well done. At that moment, Gohan notices a locket that Obni dropped in the arena, containing a picture of Obni's wife and child. Universe 10 is erased, and the locket disappears.[2] When No. 17 uses the Super Dragon Balls to restore all of the destroyed universes, Obni is seen with his teammates and Gowasu in the Kaiōshin realm of Universe 10.[10]
Name
Obni's name is likely derived from the element Niobium (ニオビウム), a transition metal with the atomic number 41. This pun follows the theme of Universe 10 warriors being named after elements of the periodic table.[11]
Production

In Dragon Ball Super Episode 90, the Universe 10 team appears hooded, with the exception of Mulithim. They remain hooded in Episode 91, suggesting that their designs had not yet been finalized when animation began on these episodes.
Performance
Obni is voiced by Atsuki Tani in his first credited role for the Dragon Ball franchise. In the FUNimation dub, Obni is voiced by Randy Pearlman, also in his first credited franchise role.
