Rubalt is a fictional character in the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Super and its companion manga series written by Toyotarō. Rubalt makes his debut in Dragon Ball Super Episode 90, broadcast on 14 May 2017 on Fuji TV, as a member of the Universe 10 team.
Biography
Rubalt is a military warrior who survived through violent war. In the Tournament of Power, he is dropped out by Piccolo's Scattered and Guided Kikōha.[1][note 1][2][3] In the manga continuity, Rubalt is knocked off the arena by No. 17 just after the tournament begins. He manages to grab on to the edge of the fighting stage, but Freeza notices him trying to climb back off and uses his foot to dislodge Rubalt's grasp, eliminating him.[4]
Tournament of Power

Rubalt is recruited for the Tournament of Power by Rumoosh, the God of Destruction of Universe 10. As the leader of the team, Mulithim introduces the otherwise-hooded members including Rubalt to his Kaiōshin Gowasu, demonstrating their dedication to a regular protein intake in order to build strength.[5] The Angel Kusu leads the team in a dance to foster team unity, while Gowasu records. He plans to upload it as a video entitled "Us Dancing" on GodTube, and hopes it will get a lot of views.[6]
The team is next seen when they are transported to the World of Void by the Great Priest.[7] Rubalt is briefly seen twice when Kale is on her berserker rampage,[8] and he is seen again fighting Monna of Universe 4 when Ribrianne calls the Universe 2 team to observe the Maiden Squadron transformations.[9]
After Gohan eliminates Botamo of Universe 6, Rubalt's teammate Obni compliments him on his fight, and introduces himself and Rubalt. Obni challenges Gohan, while Rubalt challenges Piccolo. After the elimination of Zircor, Rumoosh tells Obni and Rubalt that they are the last hope of Universe 10.
Rubalt attacks Piccolo with a punch to the face, sending Piccolo flying. Piccolo recovers, and attacks Rubalt with a Scattered and Guided Kikōha.[3] Rubalt is momentarily confused as none of Piccolo's attacks are hitting him, but then Piccolo points out that he is surrounded. Piccolo guides his blasts, pummeling Rubalt into unconsciousness. Piccolo notes that according to the rules, he has to go out, so Piccolo blasts him out of the ring. Rubalt apologizes to Gowasu for his loss, but Gowasu has faith that Obni will prevail on their behalf.
After the elimination of Obni, Universe 10 is erased.[2] When No. 17 uses the Super Dragon Balls to restore all of the destroyed universes, Rubalt is seen with his teammates and Gowasu in the Kaiōshin realm of Universe 10.[10]
Name
Rubalt's name is likely derived from the element Cobalt (コバルト), a transition metal with the atomic number 27. This pun follows the theme of Universe 10 warriors being named after elements of the periodic table.[11]
Production

In Dragon Ball Super Episode 90, the Universe 10 team appears hooded, with the exception of Mulithim. They remain hooded in Episode 91, suggesting that their designs had not yet been finalized when animation began on these episodes.
Performance
Rubalt is voiced by Yasuhiro Mamiya, whose Tournament of Power roles include Iwen and Sidra, the Gods of Destruction of Universe 1 and Universe 9 respectively. In the FUNimation dub, Rubalt is voiced by Gabe Kunda, who also voices Zirloin of Universe 2.
Notes
- ↑ Rubalt's Toei website bio calls Piccolo's technique 連続閃光弾 or "Rapid-fire Flash Bullets", but it is the same technique Piccolo used against No. 17 in Dragon Ball Z Episode 148 (Dragon Ball Chapter 366). This is called 拡散誘導気功波 or "Scattered and Guided Kikōha" in the "Special Attack Dictionary" found in the Daizenshuu and Chouzenshuu guidebooks.
