The untitled second chapter of DeSpo FighterZ, by Hiroshi Otogi, was first published in Japan in the November 2018 issue of Shueisha's Saikyō Jump.
Synopsis
As they begin their journey toward the national Team FighterZ Tournament, Mamoru and Kenzo stop by Mamoru's house for training. While there, they encounter resistance from Mamoru's overprotective butler, Musashi, and Kenzo once again has the opportunity to show off his do-or-die talent.
Summary
Mamoru and Kenzo, the latter having resolved to enter the national Team FighterZ Tournament, head to Mamoru’s house for practice. Mamoru’s house is so big, it winds up making Kenzo jealous.
Mamoru and Kenzo are greeted by Musashi, Mamoru’s butler. Kenzo mistakes the word for “butler” (執事 shitsuji) with the word for “sheep” (羊 hitsuji) and is confused by the fact Musashi looks completely human. Musashi warns Mamoru that having a hoodlum like Kenzo around will only add danger to his life.
During practice, Mamoru defeats Kenzo in twenty consecutive matches, and worries for their chances in the tournament. Kenzo says he’s off his game because his blood sugar is low again, but he just ate plenty of snacks. Angered by Mamoru’s taunting, Kenzo moves to hit him, but is stopped by Musashi. Musashi orders Kenzo to cut his ties with the young master. Kenzo refuses, prompting Musashi to ask him what his goals are. Money? Kenzo says he’s only after matches. Mamoru helped introduce him to a great match earlier, and as long as the two pal around, he feels like he can expect more.
If Kenzo won’t leave, Musashi volunteers to see him off personally. Kenzo prepares for a fight, but Mamoru steps in to stop them, saying he hates that kind of fighting. Kenzo proposes a FighterZ match instead. If he loses, he offers to sever his ties with Mamoru. However, if he wins, Musashi must acknowledge them as a team. Musashi agrees, and the two begin a 1 vs. 1 FighterZ match instead of the usual 3 vs. 3. Judge Man climbs in through Mamoru’s window to officiate.
At the beginning of the match, Kenzo’s Goku can’t get a single bit of damage in on Musashi’s Pure Boo. It turns out Musashi is particularly skilled at defense. The butler schools Kenzo on the points of matching blocks to high and low attacks, as well as the timing of Z Reflects.
Things look bad for Kenzo, but he asks a worried Mamoru to believe in him as his friend. Mamoru is touched to learn Kenzo considers him a friend. Kenzo begins to counter Musashi’s attacks using blocks and Z Reflects just as Musashi did before. Musashi accuses Kenzo of having pretended to be an amateur, but Kenzo says his secret is “sounds.” He’s been listening to the timing of Musashi’s button presses each time he blocked or reflected and remembering them by ear. Musashi is shocked. The proper timing involves inputs within .3 seconds of an attack.
Mamoru believes he’s finally figured out the secret to Kenzo’s on-and-off talent: He plays better in a pinch. Kenzo’s entire aura has changed, and with his hair standing straight, he once again resembles Goku. He announces his intent to settle the match.

- The chapter debuts a rather different art style, featuring simplified characters and thick line work.
- The chapter also debuts the inclusion of illustrated button inputs during the course of a match, lining up with their real counterparts in the recently released Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Ball FighterZ.
- The chapter features the inclusion of real screenshots from the game at the start of fights, whereas the first does not.
- A new feature follows the chapter in its printing in Saikyō Jump, illustrating how to create in-game analogues of the series' major matches up to that point.
- Judge Man's introductory narration box now includes the comical non-sequitur that his favorite food is pea sprouts.
