The Invincible Lords of the Highway is a highway gang (riding motorized unicycles) that featured in episode 138 of Dragon Ball Z. The gang did not appear in the Dragon Ball manga, but were instead created for an anime-only sequence scripted by Katsuyuki Sumisawa.
General Overview
The "Invincible Lords of the Highway" gang is a group of bikers that roam the highways somewhere between North City and Son Goku's home. The members wear distinctive white zig-zag symbols either on their clothes or painted on their bodies, similar to a lightning bolt. Rather than using two-wheeled motorcycles, the gang rides motorized unicycles. The group unwittingly set upon Artificial Human 16, 17, and 18 while they were driving en route to Son Goku's house. Unbeknownst to them, God was watching the exchange as he sought to determine whether these Artificial Humans were as evil as the ones from Trunks's Future. Although they were taunted and attacked, the Artificial Humans showed restraint by toying with the gang members without outright killing any of them.
Name
The Japanese name for the group is 無敵の街道レーサー, literally "Invincible Highway Racers", using the English word for "racer". The Funimation dub name for the group, "Toad Warriors", is a pun based on the English expression "road warrior". This term initially meant a long distance vehicle or a driving enthusiast,[1] however the behavior and dress of the characters closely resemble gangs from the 1981 film Mad Max 2, known in the United States as The Road Warrior.
Production

The distinctive motorized unicycles used by the gang are based on a design by Akira Toriyama from earlier in the series. The first appearance of such a unicycle is on the cover of Dragon Ball Chapter 24 where it is being ridden by the Turtle Hermit, although he never rode one in the series itself.[2] They debuted in the series proper two chapters later when Lunch rides a simplified version of the vehicle to flee from the police.[3]
Although several of the characters are voiced, none of them have names or are given voice credits in the original anime.
