Further to that question, what subtitle displays for the title cards when watching the dub? The dub episode title, the Japanese episode title, no subtitle at all? For that matter, is there even a second subtitle track for the dub?

Not that it really matters, but I'm curious.

Something obviously changed that, since you ultimately answered it fine. It just took some pestering. I guess I'll remember to do that in future.

I prefer the hyperbole.

Then we'll have to agree to disagree.

And yes, it isn't high school. Which means you don't get babied, and sometimes people aren't obligated to explain things to you, especially when they've explained it 100 times to 100 different people (who as anyone in the chatroom ...

downscaling tends to be slightly LESS destructive

This is an actual argument and one I can get behind. I can see your point.

As for my one comment, I was being condescending to you, largely at the suggestion that 'as long as everyone does it incorrectly in the same fashion, then it will be ...

No, if you fullscreen it, it will use the source resolution, but then every single persons PC will upscale something differently (which is part of why you either have to compare at native on disc, or 'native viewing', and since native on disc has an incorrect aspect ratio for viewing on a PC ...

So what's wrong with 720x540 exactly? I fail to see how resizing the source image so that you lose resolution (and hence detail) makes for a more accurate screencap. I'm skeptical that DVD player software reduces the image to 640x480 and then resizes it to fill your screen.

On a related note, in ...

The Dragon Box remastering was (presumably) done in SD, so they would have had to go back to the film source again to do an HD transfer. I guess this time they just didn't do as thorough a job of cleaning it up.

Finally. I can't believe how long it took them to confirm this rather major detail.

Anyway, nice to know.

FUNimation licenses Japanese series all the time. It's what almost their entire business is based around.

Zomfg, FUNi licensed Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino. Mark my words, it's a sure sign they'll be licensing Dragon Ball Kai!

What does FMA have to do with DBK? Licensing one in no way implies that they will license the other.

Not to mention that they announced the FMA license about 6 months ago. The dub cast is news, but that's about it.

I always found that hilarious. Gohan loves Piccolo because he remembers the time he valiantly sacrificed his life for him... Except, Piccolo's still alive. Just because.

It's not been resized at all. 720x480 is the native resolution of an NTSC DVD, whether it's 4:3 or 16:9.

Because, at the conference, the thing looked pretty finalized.

No it didn't. They had one mock-up.

Not to mention that the packaging has two "books" that have up to four discs in each one. All they'd have to do with the packaging to add an extra disc is change one of the plastic trays to hold ...

Regarding Blu-ray:

4:3 content on Blu-ray isn't unheard of. For the most prominent example I can think of in the US, Star Trek: The Original Series looks absolutely gorgeous, and it would have been a crime to decide not to release it because it wasn't 16:9.

SD content on Blu-ray (outside of extras ...

R1 DVDs don't have more space. They just have inferior video and audio quality.
Or they're using a special DVD for this release who knows.
I know! Since there's no such thing as a "special DVD", they're not using one.

This debate is made a lot more complicated by the tendency for American accents to make "o" as in "Bob" sound roughly the same as "a" as in "ball". With a British accent, the two sound distinctly different -- and if I had to say which is closer to the Japanese "o" sound out of "B o b" and "ph o ne ...

"Stay tuned for more information regarding the series" does not imply that they'll be making any kind of significant announcement. At all. To me it just suggests that more specific information about these new DB box sets will become available.
