Re: How do you personally pronounce "Saiyan"?
Viz didn't use Kakarrotto, they used Kakarot. I don't know why, they were using the original for the most part, so I have no idea why they used it. Not to mention, that's how why got Vegrot.
It may have been a space saving measure. Easier to squeeze in more words per balloon with Kakarot than ...

Re: What if Dragon Ball was about High School life?
There's some irony in describing "high school slice of life" as an overused genre when talking about a shonen series. Like rereboy , Gyt Kaliba , and Lord Beerus say, it's all in the execution. There are some really wonderful high school manga/anime out there.

Re: Is anyone starting to feel franchise fatigue yet?
I definitely did a while back. I can't get into Super. The movies are fun as light entertainment, but they're mostly forgettable. Overall, the newer content hasn't felt worth committing to. Sure, I like Beerus. He doesn't warrant hours and hours of my time.

Wow, good topic!
Something that had never occurred to me before this thread:
Kuririn's decisions here are completely consistent with Goku and co's attitudes in the beginning of the arc. They objected to Bulma's suggestion of preemptively destroying the androids, the rationale being that the ...

Re: Sources on Kuririn being the strongest human
From a storytelling perspective, Kuririn being the strongest makes sense. It plays against your expectations. It shows that when it comes to strength, looks can be deceiving. That's interesting. It's actually a recurring theme in Dragon Ball.

Roshi originated the kamehameha, didn't he? It's much harder to break new ground than to imitate an already perfected method.

Re: Pan's godfather
While Gohan loves Piccolo, I think he knows Piccolo isn't really parent material. Or if he doesn't know that, Videl would talk him out of it. Piccolo stays a beloved uncle.
Kurririn would be the logical choice for godfather. He has experience raising a daughter, and he's sane compared to the rest ...

Re: Did Goku kickstart his Character Archetype?
You know, a bit hazy, but I remember having read about a Japanese folklore archetype which fit the first four — maybe even five — in your list. Empty headed, stubborn, very strong, and usually a peasant, if I remember correctly. Somebody here who actually knows about this kind of stuff could correct ...

Re: Universe 6 tournament combatants?
I love the Freeza suggestion. That Freeza and the good guys would never in a million years team up unless forced to by Beerus would make for great character moments. More conflicts, more clashing personalities, the better. In my opinion, Dragon Ball has always been at its best when it "mismatched ...

Re: The secrets behind Ginyu Force's techniques
One of my favorite recurring speculations is how many bodies Ginyu had used up before becoming horned and purple, so it's always mildly disappointing to find official art treating that body as his original; even if this one's only for a video game guide. I'd love to see a back story, either from ...

Re: Dragon Ball: Complete Illustrations Questions
That's probably one of my favorite Dragon Ball-related possessions, other than the series itself in its manga and anime forms. I can't tell you how often I've revisited the artwork in that book for inspiration or a recharge of creative giddiness. Toriyama's a master at imaginary machinery, motion ...

Wow. He's looking great for a guy who's pushing 60. As a matter of fact, he'd be looking pretty damn good for a guy pushing 50.

Re: Why did Toriyama chose Chichi to be Son's wife?
Chi-chi is the only one tough enough to be Goku's wife. Her wild fish-out-of-water nature jibes well with Goku's own. I'm sure she sees some of the Ox King in him. Not to mention, as it's been established in the series, they share a unique, matching purity of heart.
