The manga is the main canon. It is the primary canon. Now the anime is the secondary canon. It tells the same exact story as the manga, but with differences. The stuff you see in the anime only can happen in the manga, just depends on what it is. Like the Bardock special, or the Trunks special ...

I thought the voices were very nice once they reached the Majin Boo arc.

To put the "nakama" thing into perspective, the first volume of the manga has "Son Gokuu to Nakama-tachi" ("Son Gokuu and Friends/Allies/etc") as its title. In those particular chapters (1-11), the only major allies he has are Blooma and Oolong, plus Umigame as a temporary traveling companion ...

Almost every Shonen fighting series almost has a main character and their buddies. Luffy has Zoro, Nami, Ussop, Sanji, Chopper, Nico Robin, Franky, and Brook. Naruto has Sasuke, Sakura, Kiba, Shino, Hinata, Neji, Rock Lee, Tenten, Shikamaru, Choiji, and Ino. Who do you count as Goku's buddies?

As I've said, I should have added an "s" at the end. The whole purpose is who would you list as the main antagonists. Dragon Ball doesn't have one, I know. There are plenty of them. Piccolo Daimao, Freeza, Majin Boo, etc. List off the guys you would list.

The reason Gohan wouldn't be a good hero is because he is a pacifist. He hates fighting, and doesn't train like Goku and Piccolo. He's too focused on his goal of becoming a schoolar. What good will that do him if he can't reach his real goal in life.
