Re: GT and misogyny

I'd argue Pan was still treated better than Gohan, Goten, Uub, and even Trunks. In the grand scheme of things she gets way more screen time, floors Rildo, overpowers Gero, and helps kill a Shadow Dragon. I think the real issue with GT is its treatment of anyone who isn't Goku. Every time we think so...

Re: Dragon Ball and TV Blocks

Any block is welcome. EVEN those outside the USA. But channels like Toonami UK do not. Toonami UK actually was a block in the early days, launched because of the success of DBZ on Cartoon Network. It wasn't until 2003 that it became an actual channel after the failure of CNX. The block would show s...

Re: Does anyone else feel that much of the DB fandom enforces low standards?

The scene were Chi Chi twists Goku's arm in Super while having an expression of sadistic pleasure is the definition of a caricature. I'd even go as far to say she was never portrayed that bad in Z, even at her worst.

I'm at the point were I actually find her somewhat likeable and even funny in Z.

Re: Rankings and thoughts of the post-Kikuchi composers?

Mine have changed a little bit over time. 1. Team Faulconer. While it suffers from being wall-to-wall, and can get annoying in comedic scenes, it more than makes up for it in the iconic moments; SS3 Tranformation, The Dragon Theme, Super Saiyan Vegeta, Ginyu Tranformation, Perfect Cell's theme, and ...

Re: Should it matter how a characters trains when they make big gains?

Even if rage was the trigger, Gohan wouldn't have been able to go SS2 without that year of intense training beforehand. And I'd argue the powerup he got from Guru wasn't all that significant, as he still couldn't touch Recoome. Him getting his neck broken and then recovering rightfully gave him a mu...

Re: Should it matter how a characters trains when they make big gains?

But his latent power keeps getting released to its max. Gohan's not strong enough? Tell the audience he has more latent power. It's lazy and especially since several of these moments where it's release are supposed to be this big cathartic moment. That's the more damning thing. At least he has to t...

Re: Should it matter how a characters trains when they make big gains?

In Super this all gets thrown out the window, with anyone being able to get as strong as they need at any given time, often with no explanation. Trunks isn't strong enough to fight Black? No problem, he'll just scream and get stronger. Now he isn't strong enough to fight Merged Zamasu? No problem, ...

Re: Should it matter how a characters trains when they make big gains?

I think it matters. Goku drinking the Ultra Divine water is one of my favourites, because of the enormous risk of him dying. He also has to suffer horribly through the poison before he gets the powerup. Another one I love which is technically filler is the gravity malfunction episode, where Goku is ...

Re: Your personal misconceptions?

I've got a pretty funny/interesting one. And before anyone laughs I was really young at the time. Years ago when I was rewatching Season 3 on Cartoon Network, I had a funny misinterpretation of a certain line relating to Vegeta crying during his death scene. Goku says "A heart of stone can't shed te...

Re: So its been many years, are alternate hair colors for Super Saiyan transformations a good or bad idea

They're okay, but if they take it too much further it will get silly. I still say SS3 and SS4 look cooler than any of the new forms, although UI is pretty badass and an interesting concept.

Re: What are your thoughts on parents trashing on the DB franchise?

My thoughts are I could care less what anyone thinks of what I watch and like. Why should I? because they aren't going to care what I think of things they like? I'm not sure how old you are(I'm 31) but trust me, The sooner you stop worrying about everyone else and what they think, the better...

Re: How many versions/dubs aired on YTV?

Yes, and while YTV never did air Westwood versions of previously-aired FUNimation episodes, in the UK you did have that very bizarre instance during the switch from CNUK to CNX where it did happen. As I remember, starting with episode 239 CNX initially aired the FUNi dub (after Westwood 108-238 had...

Re: How many versions/dubs aired on YTV?

Sounds like Canada had a pretty jarring and inconsistent broadcast. I can relate, having lived through the UK broadcast with its crazy amount of dub switches. Reading this topic reminded me of something. The earlier UK broadcasts of Seasons 1-3 used Rock the Dragon, but the later reruns from around ...

Cartoon Network UK in the year 2000 for me. 21 years later and I still haven't got sick of it.

Re: Early Buu Saga (Great Saiyaman)...A High Point in Popularity?

It's interesting to watch the opening and ending for the Buu saga, which both focus heavily on Gohan. Both were used for the entirety of the Buu saga, even after Gohan got absorbed and was out of action from that point on. The opening in particular shows off Super Saiyan Gohan in a way that hints he...

Re: What are your favorite "genius" moments in DB/Z/GT/Super?

Goku's reverse kamehameha headbutt on Tien at the 22nd Tournament.

Moori destroying the scouters.

Piccolo's Hellzone Grenade on 17.

Gotenks getting his ghosts to trick Buu by appealing to his appetite, and then the last one flying down his throat.

Vegito getting absorbed on purpose.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I don't know if this is unpopular or not, (it might be around here, though) but I find DBZ's dub of the Buu saga to be damn near perfect, and personally, a tad bit superior to the Kai dub. It could be nostalgia, but I don't think it is since I prefer the Kai dub of all the other prior sagas to the ...

I wasn't a huge fan of it back in the day, but I've come to like it more in recent years. It has some fun humour and I actually like the Gohan Videl dynamic.

If Goku were to have one consistent English voice over every version of the character; it should be Stephanie Nadalony.
She's great as Kid Goku, but Adult? I'm not sure I could see that working.
