Re: The hills we choose to die on and the fights we battle for when it comes to Dragon Ball

I completely agree that people who watch short summary videos of movies are cheating themselves out of the best experience. It's actually kind of annoying to think about. It's like when people post every cutscene from a game on Youtube as a "movie", which people watch because they're too lazy to pla...

Re: How to properly watch GT ?

My first exposure to GT was the Blue Water dub that aired in the UK, so I actually started at episode 1. I remember initially really not liking it due to how drastically different it felt to Z (which had only finished airing 3 days prior). But I stuck with it and gradually grew to like it more, part...

Re: What's the definitive "Goku gets a one-sided ass-whooping" scene?

Goku vs Great Ape Vegeta felt like less of an "ass-whooping" and more like a straight up slaughtering. You have to wonder why Vegeta considers that a loss for him, as he literally broke every bone in Goku's body, and still had plenty of energy to beat up everyone else afterwards. Maybe because Goku...

Re: What's the definitive "Goku gets a one-sided ass-whooping" scene?

His beatdown by Frieza once the latter goes 50%. It's so brutal to watch, with Goku taking knees and elbows to the nose, gutshots, getting strangled, used as a pinball, and almost getting drowned. He even gets karate chopped face first into the ground at one point. Frieza constantly taunts him throu...

Re: The push for GT at the end of Z

One thing I've always wondered is why Toei decided to have another time skip for GT, rather than continuing right after Z left off. We literally just had a 10 year time skip, so why age the characters another 5 years on top of that? EoZ is literally the briefest period of the entire franchise, lasti...

Re: The Dragonball Misinformation Thread.

I always assumed the Ice Dragon was made from the wish to revive Frieza's victims, and Syn Shenron from the one to make people forget Buu. I feel like the Ice Dragon having that connection to Frieza works, because both had that similar moment when they beg Goku for mercy, only to turn on him. Plus I...

Re: Tenshinhan's lifespan

This reminds me of King Piccolo saying using his full power would shorten his life. This concept is pretty much never brought up again, although it could be King Piccolo's health OCD, like the moment Goku made his thumb bleed by biting it, followed by Piccolo freaking out and drinking it to avoid an...

Re: Gotenks is by far the most annoying canon character of the entire franchise

A lot of people complain about Gotenks being Trunks dialled up to 11, but it makes sense as Goten always blindly follows him anyway. It's a classic case of one kid being a bad influence on another.

Re: Gotenks is by far the most annoying canon character of the entire franchise

Weirdly I don't get the hate for Ribrianne. Even if you don't like her she's a one time character and not someone who needs to reoccur every arc due to living in an entirely different universe and not...you know...living in the same house as the main two fighters of the series. Gotenks' existence i...

Re: Gotenks is by far the most annoying canon character of the entire franchise

I actually like Gotenks and would like to see more of him. He's an idiot with enormous power going up against a villainous idiot with enormous power. That dynamic makes for some hilarious moments, like when the Super Ghosts trick Buu by pretending to see a cookie on the floor, or the bit when they b...

Re: Watched Dragon Ball Z as a kid - interested in rewatching the series. What series/versions/releases should I pick/sk

For the DVDs that are overpriced(I.E. Frieza Revealed) if you've got a VCR i'd recommend getting the VHS counterparts instead as those tend to be a lot cheaper(Regardless of whether you are getting the uncut or edited versions) and the picture quality is more or less the same as the DVDs(and i've h...

Re: Watched Dragon Ball Z as a kid - interested in rewatching the series. What series/versions/releases should I pick/sk

For the most realistically available/affordable physical releases go for; DB Blue Bricks Either Z or Kai Blu-ray sets GT Green Bricks Super Blu-rays The old single DVDs can still be found 2nd hand, but are a pain to track down, and some are annoyingly overpriced. They're the closest you can get to t...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

I remember that original cover for RtD. I also remember everyone being really confused because one website had a description saying "the fan favourite Ocean group have returned to redub the Dragon Ball Z series" or something to that affect. At the time some people speculated it was actually Ocean Ka...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

Honestly I was pretty happy with the RtD set, and I'm still incredibly grateful it happened at all. It covered the Ocean cast at their best, included all NEPs, had eyecatches, and even the previously unreleased TV version of Tree of Might along with "Stand by for Dragon Ball Z". Okay so it wasn't th...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

I think it's actually valid to consider the Saiyan and Frieza arcs one big one, mainly because of how things don't get truly resolved until after Frieza's defeat. Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, Piccolo, and Kami all die during the battle with the Saiyans, which is the whole reason for going to Namek, and m...

Re: The Baba Arc should be rolled into the RRA Arc

I sometimes forget Funimation renamed the Saiyan saga "The Vegeta saga" from 2005 when they re dubbed it. It's one of those things that never really caught on with fans, who pretty much universally still call it the Saiyan saga, even those who never saw the Saban dub. I'm pretty sure all the videoga...

Re: What is the story behind the Westwood Dub?

One thing that has always puzzled me is why the Westwood dub had additional edits on top of Funimation's already edited footage. When CNX aired the Fusion saga in Funimation's dub, it didn't have these extra cuts, but the Westwood airings of these same episodes did. For example; Super Buu getting sh...

20 years ago today DBZ first aired in the UK

Just happened to look at today's date and realised this. It's crazy that 2 decades have gone by since it first aired on Cartoon Network, which is unrecognisable these days compared to how it was back then. Here's a video with the very first UK promo, plus a bunch of others; https://www.youtube.com/w...

Re: Team Faulconer - Singles vs Orange Bricks

I get the impression some of the changes were made so they could pass it off as "revised", which is what they advertised it as. At least the dialogue changes anyway. For example Goku's "Hey mister" line to the driving instructor was used again when he sees Yajirobe on the Orange Bricks. I've always ...

Re: Goku's long absences in the story

I have to say I love the Ginyu Force and the entire battle with them. It's funny how someone as evil as Frieza would employ a bunch of goofballs like that. And the fact that they're so strong also serves to further hype up Frieza, who is obviously much stronger than them. It further establishes that...
