Re: DragonBall Z Abridged

"I'm disappointed they put relieving themselves of this free series above validating my opinion of the Buu saga" is an...interesting take. When the majority of the fandom is constantly telling you that the part of the series you enjoy sucks and that the series would have been better without it, it ...

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged

opinions and all that, but my god does this read as being entitled. It takes time and effort to do what TFS did with DBZA, it's not a matter of just simply not wanting to do it. They started the Android saga in 2012 and didn't finish the cell arc until way into 2018. That's a lot of fucking time to...

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged

Not gonna lie, as a fan of the Buu arc that already feels a bit isolated in loving it and Majin Buu as a character, and was really looking forward to seeing the arc get its time in the spotlight like the rest of Z, this is very disappointing; and I feel that it only further feeds into the convention...

Re: Do you actually believe that we are currently in some second Dragon Ball golden age?

Personally, I think the best Dragon Ball products in the current era are the Broly movie, FighterZ and Battle of Gods. It's a bit of an issue where I cannot confidently point to the Super anime itself as something to hold up among them. This is more or less my view. I can't call this a "second gold...

Re: How would you compare Dragon Ball’s revival to something like Star Wars?

Well... the Star Wars revival exposed that there have been long standing faults in the Star Wars community. There are at least 3 factions; "those who like it because they think it's a cool setting and just want to see stories set in that universe" "those who like the skywalkers and just want to hea...

Re: DragonBall should do more with politics

It's not. The system is still very much designed to keep blacks at a disadvantage which is why we have so much problems dealing with the law. The cases with Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and Eric Garner are proof of this. It was a racist statement and you're backpedaling with your response. Your s...

Re: All in all, are you happy the revival happened?

Though I believe an arc should be watched from start to finish, if you already know the general outcome of the Future Trunks arc you can just watch it from episode 47 until 61 (after that the arc was rushed). Since you like the concept of Zamasu, that's also when his character truly shines and you ...

Re: All in all, are you happy the revival happened?

No, I am not. Aside from Zamasu, who genuinely represents something new Dragon Ball has never had (a main antagonist whose motives stem from ideology), this new material from what I've read about it has been creatively impotent for the most part and doesn't sound like it would be worth the time inve...

No.

None of the geeky things I'm into take priority over real life responsibilities.

Because those geeky things don't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Back then the most toxic debate were canon, power levels and FUNimation's orange bricks.
Don't forget sub vs. dub. That one has been around FOREVER to the point where the American fanbase is kind of defined by it (and I would argue more so than other anime fandoms).

Re: Are Power Scalers a cause or symptom of toxicity in the fandom?

In my experience with this fandom, sub vs. dub debates are the ones that tend to get toxic. Power scaling debates typically amount to little more than obnoxious fan wanking.

Re: What parts of the franchise evoke nostalgia for you?

DBZ Movie 12 and the Buu era in general, because one of the earliest clips of Japanese DBZ I ever saw (which was on Caster's site I believe) was Goku going Super Saiyan 3 against Janemba. This stems from the period in the late 90s through the early 2000s where I was finding out about the show throug...

Re: What's canon?

I'm providing a reason some people, especially those new to the fandom, might want them to count. And I wasn't really talking about the movies in particular but rather why people like things in general to be "canon" and why canon is important to some people. This general mindset is what I'm respond...

Re: What's canon?

There is a certain satisfaction knowing something "counts" and will have repercussions going forward. This sounds to me like a failure to accept the nature of these movies as non-serial movies that weren't made to interact with the story proper in that way. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a...

Re: What's canon?

I like quite a few of the movies a lot, but that doesn't mean I need them to exist in the story proper, and I've never really understood this desire many fans have to force them to work as such when they clearly weren't designed to. What's wrong with just letting them be their own thing that exists ...

Re: What's canon?

That's why there's an if. You can't fit any of them without looking past some issues. Dead Zone for example fits between the Piccolo Jr and Saiyan arcs IF you look past Krillin meeting Gohan during the movie and forgetting about him in the Saiyan arc. That's of course assuming you don't take any of...

You can fit them within Z's story if you try hard enough (and look past some inconsistencies)
You're just proving the point that they can't fit if you have to "look past" the inconsistencies just to make it work.

but you've generalized the characters to the point where most of the villains fit the profile. In that case they're both faux affably evil, another similarity. In addition to them both being dignified types that are very arrogant and boastful about their power and resort to sore loser tactics when ...

Re: Super Boo: The worst form of a main villain ever?

I didn't say you said they were exactly the same. Good lord. My issue is you drew a parallel by making such a general statement which could apply to nearly every villain in Dragon Ball. Their motivations and goals do matter since otherwise the villains are all pretty much the same if you generalize...

Re: Super Boo: The worst form of a main villain ever?

Fine but you are factually wrong. They don't have the same specific goals. Of course they seem the same if you generalize them. One wants to be an emperor, one wants to be the strongest. Again, you're refuting an argument I never made. I never said they were exactly the same. You keep zeroing in on...
