I'll make it quick: "no" in both cases. ^^Dayspring wrote:Now it's really just arguing over whether or not an OVA has to have a high budget and 100% original plot in order to be an OVA.
Did Ocean, FUNi or Saban dub the OVA???

Which is why I would only change daizex's title to something more along the lines of The Truth Behind The OVA or something. In other words, point out its exceptionally unconventional origins, don't affirm that it's not even close to one.Olivier Hague wrote:I'll make it quick: "no" in both cases. ^^Dayspring wrote:Now it's really just arguing over whether or not an OVA has to have a high budget and 100% original plot in order to be an OVA.

Me too.sangofe wrote:I want to see this dub. Please!Dayspring wrote: Timo: I'd appreciate it if you read my post before making fun of me. I'm quite clear many times in this thread that Teletoon often does an in-house translation of the English dubs they receive in order to put it on their French network.
@Dayspring: I didn't want to insult you. Sorry about that. It's just weird that nobody heard of this dub yet and when it comes to DBZ dubs it can be very cofusing.
Have you guys tried youtube? I'm sure it's got to be floating around somewhere. Teletoon French does this for all their anime: they take whatever English dub Teletoon English has, and dubs that into French.

I got nothing. Maybe try to scour some Canadian French DBZ sites? How to find them is up to you though, I can't even find some English Canadian-run sites. ^_^;

The only Canadian DB site I remember was 'DB Canada", and that went down years ago.Dayspring wrote:I got nothing. Maybe try to scour some Canadian French DBZ sites? How to find them is up to you though, I can't even find some English Canadian-run sites. ^_^;

It's his site, he can keep it how he wants it. Whether you think it's correct or not. That's all I'm saying.Olivier Hague wrote:
Oh, come on. We've already discussed that here, so please don't accuse me of "whining without doing anything". That's just uncalled for.
Why not? There is an OVA, both technically and officially.
If you're not even going to correct that, what's the point? 'Guess I'll just have to keep "whining" (i.e. correct that "information" on the forums).
Anyway, I really hope this gets dubbed. The only reason it's hard for me to believe it that Funi is a few years ahead of when this "Story" fits into the rest of the Storyline. They'd be releasing it kind of late. But if it is dubbed, I'd buy it.

1) We've already proven it wasn't correct (it keeps contradicting itself anyway).Big Momma wrote:It's his site, he can keep it how he wants it. Whether you think it's correct or not.
2) VegettoEX admitted as much.
So yeah, it's his site. Sure. If he wants to keep a flawed article in there (for some reason), it's his right, I guess.
But when he tells me that I shouldn't be "whining" about it, or that the article wasn't corrected because I didn't do anything about it? Come again??

The same goes for everyone else. Please pay attention to what your moderators ask of you, both on this forum and everywhere else. I will lock this thread and other "OVA" threads if you all simply can't just stick to whatever the actual question is.
TO GET BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND...
I really doubt you're going to find some obscure, probably illegal dub of something on YouTube if it's never really made its way out into viewing. It's different with traditional movies and TV shows and such, where those are... err... popular, and actually get out there to people. But something like this? Naaaaaah.

All right. But why take it to PMs specifically when there's already a topic about that very issue? Shall we continue there?VegettoEX wrote:We have a personal conversation going via PMs. I've asked you to take it there several times. VegettoEX wrote:My theory is simply this... FUNimation owns the license to the property and its distribution in North America. The (insert descriptive term that won't get someone's panties in a bunch) contains the likeness of character(s) from the series. FUNimation has every right to throw C&Ds around at whatever they want for unlicensed productions done within their range of legality.
I think the issue with the AB English dub with the Ocean cast is that through some weird legal loophole, apparently it being "produced" over in Europe somehow excludes (or exluded) it from FUNimation-pressure.
Mini-Update from Michael: EX's theory is spot on. FUNi's counter to the loophole is to attack with one of their own. It seems most if not all of Ocean's stuff had (or has) YTV involved in the production somehow (semi-confirmed when I noticed YTV in the credits of the Inu Yasha 4 movie last night...). FUNi is therefore maintaining that any Ocean DB material shown by a Corus network other than YTV is infringing on FUNi's copyright/liscencing/whatever laws.
Off the record, Micheal's cousin (the Corus rep) feels that all the other matters being sued over were merely scare tactics to get Teletoon F to back down without having to go to court. Since Corus' lawyers think the counter-loophole thingy is legit, all French DB material, including the OVA, will not appear on Teletoon at all as long as FUNi holds the rights to DB in North America. This also implies that the OVA won't be released as one of those crappy Teletoon produced DVDs.
No news concerning what YTV intends on doing with the English OVA, movies or shows.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that most people haven't and that it's the only remaining unreleased domestic DB "movie"?Sun_Wukong wrote:I dont know why everyone gets so worked up about this damn film. If any of you have actually watched it, you'll know it really sucks ass.

See, I'm confused here (and I know this was posted several weeks ago but since this thread hasn't died yet it has come to my attention).Dayspring wrote:No, that's the official French dub used internationally. French Teletoon translated Saban's seasons 1 and 2 English dub, and season 3 of Ocean's English dub. As a result, Teletoon F's seasons 1 and 2 were craptacular at best, but season 3 was the best French dub ever.
You've mentioned a couple of times in this thread that there was a French translation based off of Ocean's dub of season 3. However, as far as we know, Ocean never did dub season 3. After parting ways with FUNimation, the next episodes that Ocean dubbed on their own were episodes 108 onward, and it was a few years later. Basically, Ocean only dubbed seasons 4 onward on their own and unless there's some lost dub that never aired, Ocean never did dub season 3. The reason for this is that by the time Ocean was contracted to do their own independent dub, season 3 had long since aired on television in most countries and as such there would be no point in them redubbing it. Thus, they just started randomly at episode 108 and continued from there because season 4 hadn't aired in many places outside of America yet. Slowly but surely, a few European channels picked up their dub because it was cheaper, and YTV eventually followed suit because of issues they were having with FUNimation.
The only possible way Ocean dubbed season 3 is if they started recording lines for season 3 back in 1998 before the decision was made by FUNimation to change the cast and do it in-house down in Texas, but this scenario is highly unlikely. Hell, there's probably a better chance that Ocean dubbed movie 4 for home video distribution in 1998 after finishing up the first 3 movies than them having recorded lines for season 3, and for whatever reason it wasn't released. Both of these possibilities have been theorized and rumoured for years, but as far as we know, none of these things ever happened.
In the end, this is what we know Ocean dubbed when it comes to DBZ:
Seasons 1&2 (episodes 1-53) with FUNimation/Saban in 1996-1997.
Movies 1-3 with FUNimation and Pioneer distributing them in 1998.
Seasons 4-7 (episodes 108-276) on their own due to some legal loophole and they only aired on YTV and a couple of European channels; these episodes were dubbed between 2000 and 2002.
As far as we know, they've never dubbed any of season 3, movies 4-13, and certainly have never dubbed the OVA. If they've dubbed any of these things, that would be one hell of a surprise and it would be a wonder how they were even able to do it.

Ok sorry to make my coming out on this old topic...But Dayspring sorry to say so...But why do you lie?
Sorry for being rude but... I never heard of a French Canadian version of the FUNI or Ocean version of DBZ O_O
The dub we have in Quebec was the one from FRANCE(with the original japanese BGM and so on...) and we only have the two first seasons and the three first movies who was officialy released here....So I really don't know why are you talking about...
But a French-Canadian FANDUB exists (based on Funi version)....Maybe that's what confuse you?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3m4W6NV5y4 For something made by only two guys is quiet good! ^^

Haha, good one. I figured that he was lying when he was mentioning a french dub based on "Ocean season 3" which, as I explained in my post, doesn't exist.NativeGirl wrote:Ok sorry to make my coming out on this old topic...But Dayspring sorry to say so...But why do you lie?
To make matters worse he never responded to me.
To basically give an answer to the question that began this thread once and for all, as far as we know, no dubbing company has ever dubbed the OVA, nor will it ever happen. Ocean never did, FUNimation never will, not even any other country has ever dubbed it. Some might find this unfortunate, but that's just the way it is. And that should finally put this thread to rest.
