Also sold!
So it's essentially Season Sets for GT then. I wonder if it's gonna be remastered/cropped to fit in with the Z one, or if FUNi learned their lesson.

Well, if you watch their dub of the original DB, they kinda randomly switched between having and not having the insert songs.DaemonCorps wrote:But does that really ensure that the image songs are gonna be in the special when you're playing the dub with the Japanese BGM? I mean, I remember the "remastered" episodes replaced the times there were stuff like image songs with just plain silence.
Eg. Mezase Tenkaichi was removed during the Goku vs. Jackie Chun fight, but that Red Ribbon Army song (can't remember the title. >_>) was kept when Goku was on his way to RRA headquarters.
I really couldn't imagine them releasing a dub with JP BGM track for Bardock without Solid State Scouter, because... Well, it's Solid State Scouter.
Of course, this is Funimation... and while I trust them with Fullmetal Alchemist, Yu Yu Hakusho and One Piece, Dragonball is still shaky ground at times...

Well, it's not FUNi's fault on the BGM - certain songs weren't sold to them to rightfully use in there as I understand it, hence the mutilation of some BGM.

Frankly I just cross my fingers, but I am very happy that these specials now have a 5.1 mix.

How does that explain Mesaze Tenkaichi not being where it should be in some episodes, yet it's there in others? Hasn't like every other country used the original BGM without a problem? Why can't Funi get all the songs?
Trans rights, now!

Good, It always seemed reasonable that Gohan from another time line would have a different voice.

Um, I know Mirai Gohan is in a different timeline and all but, wouldn't you want Herbert voicing Gohan? Because if what you guys are saying about Gohan then shouldn't it apply to Trunks too? I mean Mirai Trunks and present day Trunks are complete opposites but they have the same voice in the dub.
I don't know. I'm rather confused on that.

Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

It really depends on interpretation, especially when it comes to the confines of the dub "universe". With Mirai Gohan, we got this rage-filled emotionally driven 22/23 year old who grew up in this dark future as its only protector after losing all those he cared about at 9 years old. Dameon Clarke really fits the part and shows a stellar emphasis on the personality of Gohan through his voice alone, and even more establishes how different a person this is from the Gohan whom grew up after defeating Cell. When we got to Gohan in the Buu arc, he was this 16 year old high-achiever who lived a perfectly peaceful life in raising his kid brother and looking after his Mother, with no worries of battling evil androids or helping a massively decreasing population of innocents. Plus, he's much more a literal geek inside than the very tough figure that his Mirai counterpart turned out to be, hence coming up with the Great Saiyaman identity.Vekurotto wrote:Um, I know Mirai Gohan is in a different timeline and all but, wouldn't you want Herbert voicing Gohan? Regarding Trunks, yes he did grow up very differently and turned out just as different from his present counterpart, but he didn't hold a very stressful burden of the world on his shoulders for 13 years after losing all those he loved at such a young age. From what I could interpret in the anime special, Bulma also tried to keep his life somewhat as normal as understandably possible, with having him study books and such while avoiding training with Gohan until she thought he was ready (this is the dub'verse, mind you). I think what the dub itself tried to convey with Trunks is he didn't see true destruction until flying to the city the androids destroy at the start of the special, so that may contribute to possibly being partially sheltered from it by Bulma (once again, in the dub). So comparing to Gohan, he only had one major loss in his life and at a more older age (13), so it's understandable he wouldn't be as different as Gohan from my point of view.
Hopefully I'm making some sense.
14 years later
^ Hmm, yeah somewhat. I won't bother countering anything from the dub'verse though since I haven't seen the dub of the Trunks special since toonami times.
But yeah it's somewhat making since. It's kinda like that in Japanese except that Mirai Gohan still has the same voice, yet it's still portrayed differently than 16 year old Gohan, somewhat like how you are saying with Clark/Herbert differences.

Also, confirmed via a picture from Amazon's listing
The specials DO NOT come in a tin.
They come in a steelbook, which is far superior to just a dvd case in a tin.
Just wish Funi's first steelbook (can anyone recall if this is the first one, I'm pretty sure it is) was a release that wasn't gonna be screwed up to high heaven.

...because it screws up the video, and thus the release.TheGreatness25 wrote:Well, the release wouldn't be screwed up, but would the two TV specials? That's different. If you're not a fan of the Widescreen and "Remastering" then boy, do I think you're gonna be disappointed.

You are gonna be that guy who just pops in everywhere to get your point across aren't you?TheGreatness25 wrote:Well their release is successful. The whole 'being true to the show' isn't.
Stuff can be screwed up and still sell well.
Curse of the Black Pearl on Blu-ray, screwed up, still sold well.
Guitar Hero 3 on Wii, screwed up, sold well.
Look at that....
