Yeah... about that...

Just kidding, they didn't do it.

Now you've peaked my interest. Which action movie did that happen in?!

*Imagines Vegeta....*

Nah, they wouldn't do something like THAT. ^_^;;;

Yeah, I think high school and "Teto" are bad, but I don't think they would go that far as to gender-bend characters.

That would actually be entertaining to see Vegeta as a female.

Oh and about Mai:
Late 20s, female, her features exotic, sexy but deadly, dressed in gleaming black, with weapons strapped all over her body, she's a martial arts expert and Lord Piccolo's chief enforcer. Crafty and quick thinking, Mai uses her ability to shapeshift near the climax of the movie and takes on the form of Chi Chi, a young martial arts expert who's romantically involved with Goku and later saves Piccolo from Master Roshi's curse; once she is revealed she ends up in the fight of her life.

It's crap like that which confuses me...

"That's right, folks! Not only are we going to piss you off with characters that have never been introduced before, but we're also going to piss you off by fucking with pre-existing characters! That'll be $9.50, plzkthxbai..."

You'd think they could settle with screwing the story one way or the other.
If you're compromising to screw with old characters, just put an old character as Goku's highschool friend. If you're compromising by making new characters, make Piccolo's shape-shifting, devoted assassin a new character. :?

Oh my god.

I can't bear to watch such an important part of my life be torn to shreds right before my very eyes!

I JUST CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!

Someone needs to start picketing or something right fucking now. I'll watch since I don't live in Mexico.

I'm not sure if you're being ironically over-dramatic or not, but between you and me, that's pretty dang overdramatic. The series is so well established that I'm pretty much certain that this movie will do nothing but give the series some publicity, nothing more. It couldn't possibly be detrimental to it's image, it's been here for nearly 10 years now. Personally, I'd first start an outcry over the Box sets FUNi is releasing, because that's actually screwing the fans.

This? This is just going to be a high-intensity martial arts flick by the guys who made The-Freaking-One, which had some great looking fight scenes no matter what anyone says, and the guy behind Kung-Fu Hustle which I always felt like embodied everything about DragonBall's style and tone of combat and then some. Despite some odd casting and character changes, this movie could be just an entertaining pop-corn flick, as long as we remember that it has as much to do with DragonBall as the Super Mario Bros. movie had to do with Super Mario Bros. The difference here, I would suppose, is that the DragonBall film has the benefit of having some badass fight scenes. When it comes down to it, this is just fluff and no reason to get so vehemently upset over.

*sigh*

It's just... so...

Damn.

It's that I've come to love DragonBall. I don't eventouch the subject unless I think I can do something cool with it. Then, throwing in so many characters, taking others away, revamping everything with harsh steriotypes....

It's like someone's pissing on a prized photo album. Ya' know the feelin'?

((My opinion is different with the OrangeBox sets. It's the only reasonable manor for a fifteen year old as myself to gain the episodes without piracy. I have neither the funds or patientce to find old singles or DragonBoxes.))

Ehh... I could have sworn that was old news. Wasn't that information released on that Chud site last year in their article covering all the major characters? :?

No offense, guys, but if you were going to start complaining about this little factoid, you should have done it when it was first released... :|
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

I honestly don't care what they do with Mai, well I care but nearly on the level I care about what happens to Goku. Everyone else looks alright in my eyes, cast-wise, except him.

I just don't want to see them mess with his personality and backstory, that's all.

Smart move.

Honestly I've been watching Chatwin in interviews and in trailers, and I gotta say he kind of reminds me of Goku. He seems like a kind, naive, optimistic teenager (and yes I know he's 20-something).

Unless he screws up horrendously on this movie, I think he'll do all right. Though, it's in his best interests to do a good job since this is his first major role in a huge film. Wouldn't make sense for him to do a half-assed job. Not if he likes his career.

This isn't a "huge film", is it? I thought it was coming out in August. That's pretty late in the season, and usually reserved for movies that they don't expect to really even do that well. War of the Worlds was a huge film by comparison, if you ask me.

Yeah, I know how you feel, but look at it this way. Think of it as them making a copy of the album and then pissing on that, instead of the original which you get to keep.

Unlike the DragonBall Z series which has been getting screwed over since the beginning. We've never gotten DragonBox quality video, we finally get the Japanese music but with cropping and shoddy 'remastering.' It's the only way for you to get the episodes legally and affordably, yes, but you're still getting screwed over.

My point is, there's real screwing over of the series going on. This movie won't effect the show or it's fanbase's (or anyone who would watch the show otherwise) view on the show in any significant manner. If anything, people know better than to judge a brand by it's movie nowadays. If you're offended by what they're doing to the movie, feeling like they could do so much better, you're right. They could totally do a lot better than this, definitely, but might as well shrug it off and hope for the best. If not? Not the end of the world.

Gotta say, though, wish they'd take a hint from that new Will Smith movie coming out. That looks sexy...
