Ok, we've all seen this Dragonball related production before

A very popular, common, and recognizable image of Son Goku as a Super Saiyan.
However, I remember--I swear I remember it--seeing an image of
base Goku in that exact same pose, with the exact same tattered outfit, and a black aura of anger around him. It almost looked like the "Before" picture if the SSj one above is the "After." (Get it? Before and After series?)
I realize it could have been fanart, but I swear it looked like an offical production. I saw it long ago, back in the 90s..very old.. never could find it again. For some reason I just want to find it, really bad. Does it even exist? I'm guessing it'd be in one of the artbooks or whatever, if it was real.

You know Goku actually assumes that pose in the anime right before Freeza headbutts him.

Are you perhaps thinking of the pose that Goku assumes right before his battle with Vegeta? I seem to remember it looking vaguely similiar.

Come to think of it, this could well be the very same stance. Just the "floating in the air" variation of it.

I definitely remember this exact pose in the anime Freeza battle.
"There's a hole in the world like a great black pit
And it's filled with people who are filled with shit
And the vermin of the world inhabit it."

Not really Herms, though like SSj Kaboom said it does look like an aerial version of that stance. I just checked, it appears in the episode 99 called "Shen Long, Run Yourself Through Space!! The Time of Namek's Destruction Draws Near" or in dub "Approacing Destruction".

No, I'm not thinking of his pre-Vegeta pose. Trust me. I know very well that the scene this alleged image I'm thinking of does not happen in the anime/manga, but then--a lot of the publications in the artbooks do not happen in the anime/manga.
I specifically remember the picture I'm looking for being right next to the one I posted above, side by side, and them looking identical, except for that in one Goku was base, and in the other he was SSj. His aura was identical too, except in the base one, his aura is black, and his face is more enraged.

Just took a quick breeze through daizenshuu[/b] numero uno. Scanner's not working so I'm not a complete help...
Page 98 has a similar, but not nearly exact, style of a Goku pose in non-SSJ.

It does happen in the anime, I'm not sure about the manga, but just check episode 99.

Oh, cool. That actually is probably the image I'm thinking of. The memory can do weird things. I was starting to get afraid that it was a manufactured memory on my part.
Now that I think about it, Goku may have been clenching his fists, so it indeed wouldn't be quite exactly the same pose, is that the one you're seeing?
Either way, anyone got a scanner?

I don't know why it's so important for me to see an old picture I saw on a geocites website back in the 90s--but for some reason, it just is.

So, FindKenshi, is it similar to this
http://www.animestern.de/anime/dragonba ... ku_045.jpg
but with the 2 Gokus in the pose that you showed in the first post? As in, is it all one picture, like for a poster or something? Also, is it a Toriyama drawing or anime? Just so I know what to look for.

Well, you could check out the tiny versions of the images over at Kanzentai's Daizenshuu 1 Bonus Coverage. Just click the link in my signature. I think the image Mike is talking about is either 153 or 172.
(Yes, I am a shameless self-promoter. Why do you ask?)

153 · 156 / 1990 WJ #18
CoverThese pictures compare Goku and Freeza through their contorted facial expressions. 153 and 156 were combined together as the cover.
Looks like that's the one. Not exact, but it's close to the other image.

No, that's not what I remember seeing. It was a full body shot, proportioned exactly like the Goku in the first drawing I posted-- in a very similar pose, with tattered gi and blood on his face. I think he might have had his blue undershirt on too. It wasn't on the Daizenshu 1 translation page either...

No, it was definitly two seperate images. When placed together, they wouldn't be mirrior images like that. It was not a scene from the anime either. It was just a stand alone picture. I swear it was production art, but... I'm starting to realize it may have just been "really good fanart". Or maybe that my memory is just flawed.

Nope, not a chance. Like I said, he's all ragged, and has a black aura around him. Like I said above, I've given up trying to find it, I guess. Probably was just amazing fanart, or one of those "super-rares" that could never easily be found. For all I know it was on a collectors card in Japan or something, the kind of thing we could never just magically find. And thus, I give up.
Thanks anyway though.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I might've seen a picture like that in one of the two Cardass Daizenshuu. I'll check when I get home!

The damn thing came straight from the anime with the exception of the aura, not picture but the source of posted pic.

Definitely not fanart; most likely your second guess.
