I don't care how bad the cover is. If it's uncensored, and if it's translated relatively well...and if it's cost-friendly, I'd get them.

Yes, that is most important for me as well. I'm thinking that these are just nonsense covers that were thrown on and we will get a cover art gallery on the inside :D These seem like they will be more for the content anyway.

To everybody asking about the price

The Kenshin ViZ Big sells for $17.99 at local bookstores and I'm pretty sure they'll sell the DB/Z releases at that price too. I guess since it's 3 volumes worth of content, they'll make you pay for 3 volumes worth of content :?. No cheap way outta this one unless you get it on ebay or something.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

One volume of VIZ's Dragon Ball is $7.99, meaning 3 volumes is worth $23.97. You save about $6 with VIZ Big.

CHALLENGE TIME!

Someone make a better than these in Photoshop and post them. I mean... it wouldn't be that hard... :/

Translation: These suck, go make better ones. Oh, and mail them to Viz.

I just got my April US Shonen Jump copy and noticed the little bit about these volumes in their releases section:

Take note of what both Bonus Feature notes say about the color pages. I'm not exactly sure, but that sure seems like the right amount of color pages for there to be in those volumes (the first DB chapter was completely in color, right?). Good to know that there will be a chapter title gallery, as well. Hopefully, we'll finally be able to get all of the chapter title pages now.

I finally got a chance to stop in at my "local" (20-something minutes away) Barnes & Noble to get a peek at the first VizBig volume of Kenshin. Holy crap, when they said these things were big, they weren't kidding!

Nevertheless, the quality of the release looked pretty good. The only color portion of it was the first chapter (or two?), and a quick flip-through didn't reveal anything else that was supposed to be in color. So if Daemon's right about the advertised number of color pages being appropriate, then looks like the DB and DBZ volumes are still a buy for me.

As for whether edits are retained... meh, I don't really care. I'd like it if they're unedited, but it won't bother me if they aren't. Either way, it's still a much better overall release than the Viz tanks, what with the color pages and all, and since I don't own any of those, these are a better deal for someone like me.

Let's see...50 color pages for Dragon Ball, and 30 for Dragon Ball Z?

Chapter 1 is all in color, and is 30 pages long. The other color chapters that should be in this first volume are 3, 4, and 19. These are fiften pages each. So 30+15+15+15=75. Some of those chapters might have started out in color and then gone to black-and-white (instead of going from full-color to limited color like regular color chapters do), which would account for the discrepency.

With Z: 196 (Viz's DBZ chapter 2, I think) 205 (DBZ 11; only all full-color chapter in the entire series). 15+15=30, so that one fits.

I would prefer if they did the manga release right this time, and just left it Dragonball instead of adding "Z" to it.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

That shouldn't make much of a difference. All it is, is a title. Doesn't make it wrong or right. Now if the translations were wrong, then that would suck. See I'm much more comfortable with wrong translations in the show because you can always switch to the original. But in the manga, you can't do that. Like I can't tell you how many arguments people brought up, using a translated manga...while at the same time complaining that FUNimation did a bad translation job.

Well, the title is 'Dragon Ball', and Viz is publishing it as 'Dragon Ball Z'. So, actually, it is wrong.

Ultimate DBZ wrote:When will they realese the Dragon Ball Z Manga UNCUT. They realesed the original Dragonball, so what about DBZ? I bought some volums but they seem like there all edited. Well, at least the ones from Volumes 24-26, which is the Majin Buu saga. I would rather have UNCUT manga in english, because the manga is all about the talking. Andd when will thye realese the Kanzenbin? That looks so cool, I can't wait to buy it in english.
Yea it's called the KANZEBAN! And 20-26 was the Buu saga. AND I seriously doubt that the Kanzeban will be released this year or NEXT YEAR for that matter. America just can't do such GOOD things for DragonBall. And I bought the enitre DBZ series for Christmas and the bad language stops at the Androids Saga. Kinda sad but whatever.

Yeah but it's a way for people to differentiate and also gives them the ability to release both at the same time (Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z) to cut down the amount of time it would take to release the whole thing.

I like how they did mention in the American Shonen Jump blurb that Tanooki Kuribo provided how in Japan the whole thing is simply Dragon Ball.

Actually, it kanzenban. Same zen that's in Daizenshuu EX, as it were.

Unless this was just another example of how whenever you correct someone's spelling on the internet, you end up misspelling something yurself.

If releasing it all separately but simultaneously as DragonBall and DragonBall Z means I can collect the whole shebang more quickly, then by all means, Viz, split it up.

What really boggles me about this whole release are the covers. Yes, I know it's not the most important thing, but Viz does indeed have the Kanzenban artwork. They proved so in the "Dragon Ball Collector" issue of SJ. Why just not use the Kanzenban covers? This is obviously their version of it. It's like their being dumb and lazy if you ask me.
