God, I will never get used to the idea of Spike / James Marsters portraying Piccolo.. just too weird (as much as I love JM).. and of course a.. non-asian man portraying Goku.. *is stabbed* Am not being racist, it's just odd...

I've never seen Marsters before, but as he's one of the big names in this, does anyone have an suggestions for videoclips of his past work I should look at? You know, to get an idea of what his Piccolo will be like?

Should I look at him in Buffy or Smallville? Or in something else?

Not that I'm digging Chatwin, cuz I really need to see him in action to decide, but I just want to remind folks that Goku IS an alien who was adopted by an asian. And Vegeta, the prince of said alien race, does have the whole english attack motif. So Goku as a caucasian-asian isn't totally far fetched.

And for Marsters- picture Spike, vamped out. Now picture him bald, with pointy ears. Now pretend his skin is green.

Maybe not totally far-fetched... but considering the amount of Asian influence that went into Dragonball due to Toriyama's wife being obsessed with all things Chinese at the time, I think Son Goku is an Asian. Especially since he wasn't originally imagined as an alien.

Not like it can be changed now, though, so I'm not gonna make a big deal over it.

Quick manip, hard as hell to get a decent image of Spike with the prosthetics.

I still think he'd be a better Vegeta.

WHY? Why couldn't he be Vegeta? He's be a fricking amazing Vegeta, but Piccolo? That just doesn't seem to go in my brain.

Is Marsters really British? I can see a British-ish voice for Vegeta (due to his English dub voice sounding... I have no idea what you'd call it, but it's often mistaken for British-ishness O.o; ) I'm not saying that Marsters' can't do an non-British accent, but British Piccolo seems eh... Course, it's Marsters', but why couldn't he be Vegeta! (EDIT: Oh, he was born in California? But my brain has processed him as being British. And not green. @_@; )

I'm still waiting for them to announce that they changed Goku's name to a normal, English name. @__@; Course, if one character's name is "Teto", there's still hope.

No, he isn't. His inspiration for the accent was Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), who has a different, more formal pronunciation for his character than he does in real life. Marsters mirrored Head's actual London accent for Spike.

I think people generally seem to forget that Marsters isn't necessarily playing the Piccolo Ma Junior that most people know from DBZ, but rather something that's more based off of Piccolo's original incarnation of Daimao.

In THAT regard, I think he's an absolutely inspired choice. He'd make an interesting and cool Vegeta yes, but between Daimao and Vegeta... I'd personally rather see him play Daimao.

So think less of this...

Exactly Kunzait, now if they keep Piccolo the same actor through the whole series of movies that's bound to be bad. I wonder if he'll spit up an egg at the end of this one.

I don't think it'd be bad. But then, I spent... lessee... B-S2 to A-S5, so seven years watching James portray a similar character. He starts as a soulless demon, bold and murderous. Even tries to make the world a plaything for him and his minions (when he raises The Judge). Eventually he finds himself destiny's bitch and forced into cahoots with the good guys. Personalities clash, but eventually he bonds with the members of the Summers family, and by the 6th season is actually a much softer creature than he once was. He then takes the final steps to shed his old self and become a true hero by undergoing a trial to reclaim a part of himself that was lost when he became a demon. The parallels are easy to make, and I think he'd make an interesting Ma Junior as well. They would just need a different prosthetic design for his face to reflect the changes after rebirth.

I'm just not seeing Pic or any cannon variation thereof in this guy. Not his face or his posture or how he looks at people or... any of it. Maybe I'm being overbearing on this issue because I've adored the man for the last eight years, but I'm extremely unimpressed with the actor. Add in the fact that I have no confidence in the people who're suppose to be establishing the personalities of the characters and it's not looking good.

I'm really struggling with wether to pay to see this thing or not. I want to know exactly what I'm talking about if I'm going to complain about it once it's out, but at the same time everything in me screams it's going to be terrible and I don't want to give them money for it o_o

I started to respect James Marsters! lsiten to what he said:

The wierd thing is - they want me to audition for Piccolo, and don't know if I wanna waste my time because the cast me as Piccolo is gonna SUCK! Which means that they don't know what they're doing and I don't wanna do it!

Dude don't worry about it, in the first movie is an old man, so that I can do it... and the second two are a bit away...

So basically, he think it all suck and it's wrong, but Fox obviously put a biiiig pressure on him...And I am even more sure for the sequels, he practically said "aaahh those two are bit away so wait and hope they might be cancelled" that's how he sounds to me...

No really, I think the only honest and true words from him ware those quoted up there...at least I hope so...

No, it's just called being humble. Nobody thinks (at least at first) that they'd be able to portray their favorite character well, especially when they're under pressure. I don't think I could do a good enough Monkey D. Luffy, either.
