Honestly, this has come up in the media for the US before-- Dennis Franz's butt on NYPD Blue wasn't as big a deal as a female butt because, and this is terrifying, the female butt is a "sexual organ". Says great things about our patriarchy, eh? : /

Goku's "dong" is two squiggly little lines. Bulma has fully-visible, well-drawn, post-pubescent boobies.

As far as censorship is concerned, it's like videotaping your toddler in the bathtub compared to making a homemade porn tape.

I'm not saying that the edits are wanted or even necessary overall; just that they're just what needs to happen, and should be expected.

And since Viz is the only once with the manga license in America, we have to put up with it. The only sensible alternative is importing the originals from Japan.

I'm sorry, what? Bulma is two swoops and two little circles worth of breasts. Not to go all 4chan on ya, but this is not fap material. Sure, they are breasts, but they're not drawn for any great sexual use-- the drawing is damn simple, and for comedy purposes. As far as sexuality goes, we get far more sexual poses out of her clothed than anything represented in these couple of pages.

Why couldn't they show that? Her ass had nothing to do with that scene and wasn’t sexually involved (nor were her boobs). Anyway Bulma was seen naked in the shower censored or naught, just because they covered her boobs suddenly makes the scene more child friendly?

I'm aware of that, and yeah, I agree and don't care about either one of them. But I'm not the one setting these standards, is all I'm saying. We shouldn't let our ideas or viewpoints of what should or shouldn't be censored cloud our expectations. Of course Bulma's chest is going to be covered; just because we think it shouldn't doesn't mean it won't.

We're mainly so mad because it went from censored to uncensored back to censored.

Actually, Spain has the Kanzenban; and, since it's written in letters that LOOK like they could be English, it would be a tiny bit easier to understand; hell, I can almost read mine, and I'm only in Spanish 2!

Understand I'm not being "anti-uncut DragonBall," here, or anything. I'd love a completely unedited release of the manga as much as the rest of you. But I know we're not going to get one (or any more of them) because of how prudish America can be in these cases compared to other countries. I guess I'm just trying to tell myself, "oh well, it's no big deal," and honestly, I think it is.

'Sides, I've got the rest of the internet at my disposal if I want to see Bulma's boobies. So if Viz needs to edit them out of their manga so kids can read it, then whatever. *shrug*

I think what is so incredible is how inconsistent this censoring is in relation to the rest of the volume. Bubbles covering Bulma's butt crack here, but I can see the full two cheeks when she pulls up her dress for Master Roshi-a much more "sexual" transaction if you ask me. I'll have scans of the cover soon.

No, its not too much to ask. *looks at mostly uncensored 16 volumes on Dragon Ball from Viz on shelf (minus Mr. Popo's lips)* Their first run of their SJ version of Dragon Ball was uncut. Their Z, though, was more censored than what they do now... Its a shame. Another potentially good release ruined by censorship...the Rurouni Kenshin volumes have been great, but...*sigh* Still, always a hope that, being that they are release at least 3 versions of the manga this year, that one might be uncut. *Vizbig, collectors edition hardcovers, and boxed set* We all need to write them, large numbers, complaining about the lack of an uncensored release of Dragon Ball/Z, and, while we're at it, all SJ titles. DC and Marvel sell loops around Viz, and most of their titles are far from kidfriendly. Making a point via protest might work, assuming Viz doesn't change their name again, and half their staff in a buyout...when Viz became Viz Media is when SJ started getting censored, to my recollection.
