A lot of people will disagree with you on that one. I see everything Roshi did to train and mentor Goku as a small-scale heroic act, not to mention how he was one of the most influential things in Tenshinhan and Chaozu's whole "turning good" thing. There's a lot more and yes like you said they're not major, but I still see him as a pretty big hero, but maybe it's just because I like Roshi and don't really like Pan that much.Kroni_Hunter wrote:well, pan did go to outer space to save the world, and pretty much stayed by goku's side to fight even though she was outclassed she still put in the effort. The only time roshi did anything heroic was when he got killed by king piccolo, and i guess when he kamehamehad the red ribbon army. By the time DBZ came around Roshi was too scared to ever even leave his island, instead preferring to find ways to get laid.

We don't really know what he might've done at one point or another, but the fact remains that he got a Kinto'Un (presumably, he could ride it) from Karin, and was once the strongest man alive, implying heavily that he was quite a lot more influential than simply what he did for our hero. Not to mention, most people at the Budokai seem to recognize his attacks when "Jackie Chun" does them (like Kamehameha).SSj_Rambo wrote:A lot of people will disagree with you on that one. Not everyone owns a scanner or high quality camera.Captain Awesome wrote:Why is it every second topic has a someone posting ugly bootleg manga scans?, not to mention actually trying to use quotes from them to back up their arguments.
I mean shit, you can buy the tankoubon volumes for like 8 bucks a pop people, are you all really that cheap?

No, more like take a screen cap of the DVD.Captain Awesome wrote:That really isn't an excuse, I'd rather see nothing than some crappy flipped scanlation. The Time Traveller wrote: Not everyone owns a scanner or high quality camera.
By your logic, if you need to get a screencap of a movie you just saw, it's totally fine to download the entire movie.

Well, if he already owned the manga volume or the hypothetical movie, it would be okay to download it, wouldn't it? I know what you meant though. I'd check my manga to see if it actually says that if I weren't at work.
Edit: I agree that bootleg downloads are a shitty source of reference though.

My views on bootleg manga scans is that you can download what you own. I own the majority of 42 volumes and ended up downloading some of this shitasticly scanned and translated manga just to see a couple of scenes uncensored and compare their translation with VIZ's. I actually deleted it right after because that low image quality upside down scanned piece of trash file didn't deserve a place on my desktop. I'm actually glad the bootleg DBZ manga is THAT bad, less people want to download it when they realize it looks like someone wiped their kids ass with it before throwing it up on the scanner (sideways no less).
Seriously only a fool would even try to use these guys translations to prove a point, at least use your own manga for reference and give a volume/page/panel number to back up your claim. That's like me trying to pass off those Chinese bootleg subtitles as irrefutable fact. ( Of course Pilaf's minions were named AAAAAA and EEEEEEE)

Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

Uh, Muten was part of the initial struggle against Daimao and his demon legions (before Mutaito showed up to save them, it was just him and Tsuru-sennin left standing). We don't know much about his specific activities after, but he was the strongest man alive and he did train Gohan. In the series, he trained a few of the heroes. He was key in turning Ten and Chaozu good. He gave up his life trying to stop Daimao. He was willing to do so again against Raditz, before Piccolo showed up and went to help instead. Keeping in mind that he was effectively retired before the series began, and was therefore basically working past that retirement throughout all of Dragon Ball, can we really say he doesn't qualify as a hero of the earth just because he sat his ancient ass out of most of the Z fights (that were WAY beyond his level anyway)?Kroni_Hunter wrote:well, pan did go to outer space to save the world, and pretty much stayed by goku's side to fight even though she was outclassed she still put in the effort. but yes i know he was in the montage right before the quote, and i can see why that would imply he is dead, but remember its just implied, and that doesn't have as much weight as an official quote from Toriyama.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

It's GT, if you're not Goku or Pan, you're screwed.Shayden wrote:GT screwed the plotline, He was several hundred years old in the DB series(300 something) And had immortality, 18 most likely died because she was part human. Roshi Was just screwed by GT so they made him die. He wasnt supposed to.
GT's levels of racism is beyond ANY that DBZ had, I prefer DB Online as a continuation of Dragonball than GT.
What instances of racism are you talking about? I know GT was prertty screwed up from the start, but I didn't see any glaring pieces of racism, especially not when compared to DB or Z.AnzuMazaki wrote:It's GT, if you're not Goku or Pan, you're screwed.![]()

Crappy scanslation or no, that is an accurate translation of what Gero says. But yeah, generally I trust bad-looking scanslations like that about as far as I can throw them.Casual Matt wrote:Based on the quality of that picture, I question the quality of the translation.
