Well, I'm not sure how much he'd like having somewhere walk up to him out of the blue and interview him, though I might ask him a few questions. Maybe I'll e-mail him ahead of time and tell him my plans to buy lots of copies and distribute them overseas. For that matter, has anyone ever told him his comic is being translated into English?
I don't think so. Maybe someone should. *wink*wink*

I still think that green and purple item around Goku's upper right arm looks like a leg garter. ^^;

Very cool that he's putting out a book though. :3
On hiatus.

I would totally be on board for paying for a book.

It would be very cozy next to my GT dvds.

Holy hell! He's selling these? But won't he be sued for making profit off of Toriyama's original characters and such? And I like his volume 2 cover. It looks like the Daizenshuu.

Selling doijinshi based on copyrighted series isn't at all uncommen. Here's what Wikipedia's page on doujinshi says about it:
Dōjinshi creators who based their materials on other creators' works normally publish in small numbers to maintain a low profile from litigation. This makes a talented creator's or circle's dōjinshi a coveted commodity as only the fast or the lucky will be able to get them before they sell out.

If I can't get a copy it would still be nice to see some high quality scans.

64 pages for one volume ? How can he use a "Daizenshuu" style cover and only have 64 pages ? I mean there is nothing wrong with it but it does make me wonder. I just like my books to be thick...
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

I would very much like to purchase these, but I got to admit, I only would if they were finished and translated. Otherwise there is no point. There is no guarantee whatsoever that he will actually finish the story. Also, there is no point for me in having a comic book which I cannot read. No matter how rare it will be in the future.

Wow, I avoid this topic for a while, and I end up missing out on some smexy cover art for a release of these things?
Captain Awesome wrote:If I can't get a copy it would still be nice to see some high quality scans.
Agreed. The awesome cover is enough to buy a copy. But, I've already got my money aimed at other things at the moment.

Also, I noticed that there's only been a cover for the second book. Dunno if I just skipped over something, but is Toyble gonna be selling the second book first, since people already have access to what would make up the first book? And since the cover's an obviously made to have a similar appearance to the Daizenshuu, do you think s/he will include some stuff about him/herself kinda like what Toriyama did with the Daizenshuu?

Seeing that he's going with the whole Daizenshuu theme here I wouldn't be surprised if he made his own version of "The Shenlong Times" and interviews himself and threw them in as extras...or at least that's what I think he should do.

At very least, I'll be sending Herms enough to grab two copies and mail them back - one for keeping, and one to rip apart and scan. Hopefully, I'll have bought RockBand 2 by then, and I'll have some extra cash to buy as many as possible for giveaways.

(I apologize for the very, very lengthy comment. I use to review doujinshi on another Forum before it went all buggy, although this is certainly not a review, its just simply my own personal opinion)

Wow, I've finally found the time to read the world famous Dragonball AF fan manga by Toyble...And I could hardly bring myself to care. I've read only half the manga, getting enough to information to bash it with my trolling tongue and fanboyish banter but I'm not going to say anything necessarily bad about it. I’m just going to write what I’ve read so far.

Freeza is recovering after being cut down to size literally by the mighty God like warrior, Son Goku. Apparently he has mother, which is more than amusing to me because I always thought his Freeza’s species reproduce asexual, like some weird super alien toad lizard things. But it was nifty idea none the less. If Cooler can just pop out of no where in TV movie special, why can't other long lost relatives make an appearance. I'm sure if you studied King Cold’s family tree, we'll find out Mister Burns was his great, great, greatx100 grandfather, which would explain why he's such evil manipulative bastard.

Okay running way off track here, anyway Mrs. Cold, who looks like hybrid between Android 18 and Kibito Kai with mohawk/mullet, realizes that her family is now piss weak and seeks a stronger more worthy man meat for her plans for universal conquest. Fast forward to the future, Gohan is a professor at Orange Star University...My god I would hate having Gohan as Professor, can you imagine what that would be like? "I want everyone to write a paper (insert the most complicated shit you have ever heard), 10 pages, no double space, and site you're sources. And believe me I will fail you if you sited Wikipiedia as a legitimate source."
Student - "But Prof. Son how will we ever write a 10 page paper in 24 hours!" -"You know what I had to do in 24! Do you have any idea! I trained in goddamn chamber, in extreme temperatures that ranged from center Pulto to surface of the sun! And I did it save the world from Cell." - "But I thought Mr.Satan defeated..." - "Get out of my class room."

Crap did it again, So Goten and Uub has taken his place as the great sayia man. I have to admit that part really really cool. I loved how the local newspaper actually ranks super heroes and Goten feeling very jealous of Uub. The class room scene was humorous overall. But then enters the story’s conflict and antagonist.

*POP!*

That was the sound of brain flying abruptly out of my skull once I saw a Goku cat like creature with ruby knuckles announcing his name, intentions, future plot and conflict, and my overall enthusiasm for the story. Drooling on shirt, due to lack of grey matter I continued to read on. In no time at all, Goten is blasted to kingdom come, unfortunately not to the DC graphic novel, by Hello Kitty Son. Goku hasn't been gone for probably a year and already the Earth's in deep shit. My god, no wonder he left.

Gohan finds his brother, surprisingly still alive, and the rest of Earth's "strongest" warriors get in on the action. The usual "Who are you?" Hero and villain speech is exchanged and a fight ensues. Gohan turns SS4 at one point which is hilarious once you really thing about it. But I'm sure it will be explained much later in the story, I think. Vegeta gets his royal beating for what must have the zillionth time (Jesus, give this guy break, seriously). Followed by more fights, and more fighting, and even more fighting. I eventually stopped reading around page 50 I believe. I'm going to take a lucky guess here and assume the fighting continues.

So is it bad? The art is very good, story very linear, popular characters from the series joins together to fight an unstoppable evil force, and hell lot fighting on ever page. It’s everything that’s awesome about Dragonball Z and GT rolled up into one. So yeah, it’s bad. "How dare you!" Screams every true blooded Dragonball/Z/GT fan. "First insult the world greatest fan manga then you write a long lengthy comment, which nobody’s going to read because you're newbie, and then you say everything that is great about Dragonball Z and GT sucks! I cast the out of these holy forums! Outs I say you unwashed heathen!"

But it’s true! Being much older now I came to the realization why I loved Dragonball Z all those years back. It was for one thing and one thing only, Action! Lots of Action! (notice that I never mentioned Dragonball) I used to live for those episodes, the unbelievable characters, the ki blast, the lack and real story, oh how I slurped it all up like liquid candy. But like I mentioned before I'm older now. This kind of stuff doesn't appeal to me anymore and though I can't speak for most people, but most DBZ fans have matured too.

We keep a special place for the original show in our fanboyish heart next to Star Wars, Batman, 90's X-Men cartoons, and hell maybe even The Smurfs, but would I honestly watch another show just like DBZ today? Let alone read one? No. I'm not some snobby fanboy with my head so far up my ass that I can't enjoy a good old fashioned anime brawl. It's just that sometimes you're mind craves for something with little more, dare I say it, depth. Unfortunately Toyble's Dragonball AF isn't for someone like me.

*Phew, Man I can’t till I post up my own DB’ish fan manga and be torn a new one.

I kinda agree with you, there are two things bothering me in that doujinshi, Freeza having a mom (which so far didn't contribute to the story at all and could just be ignored) and the lack of actual story. So far it's just fighting and fighting and fighting, even Dragon Ball Z had some backstory, this guy so far has none. And I gotta say he (Xicor) is pretty lame... But yeah, the art is good and I still read it and I like it, but definatly(sp?), it's not the greatest thing I have ever read, but then again, c'mon, it's just a fan manga... One cannot expect real quality plot... But overall it is good, this and Dragon Ball Multiverse are the best so far, unlike that aberration Dragon Ball RN....

I agree that the plot of DBAF is a little painful for me to read, but it is one of the best made fan manga out there, and since desirecampbell does such an awesome job of presenting us with an amazing and easily accessed English translation of it, it's worth reading through at least once.

The whole thing with Freeza's mom being the West Kaioshin is to establish the history of West Kaioshin's attempt at creating the ultimate power, and to show how she learned about Goku. I guess Xicor himself doesn't have too much backstory, but West Kaioshin has been giving a good deal of backstory that expands on what we know of her from the anime, as well as some interesting motivations, I think. I do hope we eventually learn more about Xicor himself, like where he's been all this time (or how he was conceived...).

This doujinshi does have an actual story, but at this point it has spent most of the time on battle. I think it did rush too fast into the fighting, but mayble Toyble figured he had to do that to make it popular.
