Question for you guys that got the first Dragon Box sets at Best Buy and had them price match the cheaper price on Target's website. . .
I notice Target it pre-selling the second Dragon Box for $36, but everything I've read about Best Buy's price matching policies says they don't honor prices on competitor's online stores. Is that rule just enforced on a store-by-store basis or should they still match Target's price for me? I'm thinking about going down to BB after I get off work today and picking this up, and paying an extra $20 isn't going to stop me from buying it if they have it, but the cheaper price would be nice.
Of course this is all contingent on BB breaking street date like they did for the first box.

I think that the rule just isn't enforced by a lot of stores/cashiers. Print out the Target page and give it a shot. It worked for me and others here with the first Dragon Box.obiwan23s wrote:I notice Target it pre-selling the second Dragon Box for $36, but everything I've read about Best Buy's price matching policies says they don't honor prices on competitor's online stores. I went with a Target online print-out of the first Dragon Box to Best Buy, and they priced matched it for me with no problems.

I'm going to do it, aswell, then. I got it to work for the first 'Box, but I'm mostly just nervous about them turning me down. (I only have $40, probably, to pay for it.)
Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion
Question to all of you PS3/hi-def TV users out there.
I was messing with my TV tonight, trying to find the perfect custom settings in order to make the DragonBox colors match the the original series run of Dragonball.
It was going pretty decently. I managed to change all of the pink skins, more or less, to match how they were originally colored, but then I noticed something. I was missing part of my picture.

Judging by the linked video, this is how much image the DragonBox is supposed to be showing. But...

This is how much image I'm actually getting. As you can see, the bottom of the image (from the top of Goku's bottom ab and below) is missing, as well as a tiny part of the image on the right hand side.
I'm wondering if how I have my TV set up has anything to do with this. I made sure my TV was set for fullscreen mode at all times, as well as the PS3, but still no luck. What else could be the problem here? Could anyone compare how much image I'm getting to their DragonBox?

That's called overscan. Don't worry, it's normal. Your TV is essentially zooming in slightly to make sure that it crops out the possible artifacts that may lie at the edges of the picture. I'm pretty sure there's nothing you can do to change that, but it's also nothing to worry about.

Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion
I got mine this morning*, which was nice - a few days before the street date despite having to be shipped overseas to reach me! = ) I decided to stop watching after making it to the end of Disc 2 this evening. I admit I got a little carried away; it's my first day off after a particularly wearing week of work. As with the first box (which I received for Christmas), the last time I saw these episodes was when the edited Ocean Group dub was airing on Cartoon Network. As a result, watching the original Japanese episodes is sometimes almost a whole new experience for me, albeit one that sometimes gives me nostalgia trips from remembering fragments from years ago - a good example of which was the final episode preview of Disc 7, which had me thinking "Holy crap, it's the one where Goku glues himself to the roof of his spaceship! I remember that!". XD
A couple of thoughts from the first two discs:
- Having now watched all of it, Fake Namek was actually a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be. The twist at the end (that the aliens causing all the illusions were actually really weak in combat) got a laugh out of me. = )
- The direction and music when Vegeta sprints to his ship after Kewie tells him Freeza's after the Dragon Balls was brilliant - easily the most intense scene in any of the Fake Namek episodes.
- The confusion surrounding the three factions on Namek is pretty well-plotted, with the Earthlings aware of both Freeza and Vegeta but not sure whether they're allied; Freeza aware of Vegeta and the Earthlings but unaware of who the latter group is or why they're there, and Vegeta aware of Freeza but blissfully unaware of the Earthlings... until the end of Disc 2, when he catches up with Kuririn.
- Incidentally, the last point above is not Kuririn's smartest moment - after continually reminding Gohan to mask his ki to avoid detection, the first thing he does after having his latent power released is to fly REALLY fast while not worrying at all about how conspicuous this makes him. Nice going there, man. = P
- Vegeta's plan to steal the balls Freeza already has is comedy genius. Get them thinking you're outside the ship, draw attention to the fact you're really still inside it, then leave with the balls while they're back inside trying to stop you. Also, for some reason, I find the latter half of this episode's title, "The Miracle Man, Vegeta!", really funny for some reason. It makes him sound like a stage magician or something. XD
*(EDIT: Yesterday morning, actually; didn't realise it was past midnight when I posted this)

I ordered mine from Target. What was it like, for the people who ordered the first box through Target?
Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion
Same here. I can still remember the old Ocean dub moments while going through these, since I saw the Namek arc repeatedly on Saturday mornings. Speaking of...DisapprovingOwl wrote:As a result, watching the original Japanese episodes is sometimes almost a whole new experience for me, albeit one that sometimes gives me nostalgia trips from remembering fragments from years ago - a good example of which was the final episode preview of Disc 7, which had me thinking "Holy crap, it's the one where Goku glues himself to the roof of his spaceship! They're not utterly terrible episodes and do have some nice moments like that. A lot of the irritation stems from those of us who had to wait a week between episodes having our time more or less wasted by a subplot that went nowhere. This was compounded by the constant reruns while FUNi was busy preparing the next season's dub. That said, I'm really not looking forward to catching up to the "Bulma and the Crab" episodes, but at least with DVD, we've got a choice.DisapprovingOwl wrote:- Having now watched all of it, Fake Namek was actually a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be. That's like the guy in The Great Escape who warns his friends not to fall for the Germans' trick by responding to, "Your German is very good" in English. "Nice going there, man" indeed.DisapprovingOwl wrote:- Incidentally, the last point above is not Kuririn's smartest moment - after continually reminding Gohan to mask his ki to avoid detection, the first thing he does after having his latent power released is to fly REALLY fast while not worrying at all about how conspicuous this makes him. Here are some Season 3 comparisons. I did them in VLC instead of MPC because I didn't feel like resizing them. (Note: Episode 81 on Season 3 is the worst looking episode on the whole set and the rest of the episodes are generally not this bright):

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Giving some benefit of the doubt, VLC Player does tend to create artifacts by itself sometimes. It's more of a "will play everything" Jack of all Trades/Master of None application. Though, that doesn't cast doubt on anything aside from the macroblocking. ;pHujio wrote:"THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN!!" Who would ever want to see it like that? Oh well, take a deep breath Heath. We've got the DragonBoxes in NA. Finally.
Now as far as Leona Lewis in FFXIII goes...dammit SquareEnix...

Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion
I have a question about the video I posted earlier.
My roommate raised the point that the TV used to record the episode could have had any combination of settings, such as color, hue, brightness, etc., and since the series originated in the late 80's, the technology wasn't up to par with what we have now, so who's to say that the colors in the DragonBox aren't correct, or perhaps just a little off of what we could consider "true"?
