What? I think it's been pretty well discussed that he's being sarcastic. Plus what homoerotic undertones are you referring to?
You're ruining the joke, Perfect.

No way man.

I may prefer the US voices, but the original script is superior in every way. The old Funi script is hilariously inaccurate. There's no way around this, and people (read: Dub fanboys) proudly holding it to such a high regard based exclusively on nostalgia, regardless of its inaccuracies and countless out of character lines, to the point where they get offended when its the subject of such humorous jabs is well, embarrassing to say the least.

And all of this out of character dialog is part of the reason that I liken the dub to a fan parody. A super-harredkoar, over-dramatized, I-PWN-U dialog filled fan parody where Goku is the "Ally to good, nightmare to YUU!!11!11!". Not that series isn't already 'srs bizns' at times, but the dub amplifies this to humorous degrees.

Personally I think that attitude is a little insulting, like implying that dub fans don't have a sense of humor. I think we can all stand to sit back and have a laugh at whatever version we watch, or the series in general, and to imply people are going to get offended by something like this, IMO, isn't giving this community enough credit.

That being said, I've always had a special place in my heart for Piccolo's Ocean era remark on the story of David and Goliath...which is wrong on so, so, so very many levels. Christianity in the Dragon World? An alien who was brought up thinking he was a demon using such a reference? I could go on...

I agree.

The only reason I prefer the Dragon Boxes over Kai is because I would rather have the complete animé, rather than something which has been edited down. If the dub had have been improved for the Dragon Boxes, that would have truly made it a perfect release.

Kai, to me, is something of an ironic twist of fate as I can recall the editing being one of the heavily criticized aspects of the original dub and now some of those same editing decisions have been put into practice by the creators of the animé.

As for an inappropriate line, I can't recall it off hand (now there's an ironic choice of words), but after Tenshinhan's hand is severed, he says something along the lines of waiting until it grows back. What was the actual line again?

I only said that because people on this forum have gotten offended about a lot of things, and I had a feeling this thread would turn out bad.

But, it obviously didn't. Which was really surprising to me.

"Your father was an average fighter, Kakarrot, but he was a brilliant scientist!"

That line alone spawned hundreds of fan fiction where Bardock invented the artificial moon. That and the entirety of the FUNimation Bardock Special script making the guy a poor repented soul.

Personally, I think that anybody that gets personally offended when people criticize something they like is being a big baby. It's not a personal attack on anybody, it's an attack on a stupid English dub!

Ah man, it has to be "Yeehaw buckaroo, ride'em cowboy!". It's freakin' Freeza, and a very powerful scene, yet there he is cracking rodeo jokes. It's unfortunately humorous with the dramatic chorus piece from the Japanese soundtrack playing... It has to be the worst line of Season Three, if not the entire dub.

Anyway, back on topic: half of Freeza's lines. There's just so many terrible jokes and innuendos.

It was like FUNimation were trying to hammer into us that they thought Freeza was gay. They might as well have gave him lipstick and a creepy female voice. Oh wait...

Yeah, damn FUNimation and them painting lipstick on Freeza in their supposedly uncut sets.

I think this forum has been pretty fair (for the most part) concerning these types of posts. I believe on the other side of things, there have been posts on "What was your favorite/funniest dub line" "Instances where the dub worked better than the original" and so forth. So look at this post as a balance since positive aspects of the dub have been discussed in the past (and most likely will be in the future).

The lips are the same. I can see how at first glance Freeza might look a little gay, but what he does and says kinda offsets that.

I do like the dub (probably for nostalgic purposes), but I will admit it doesn't stack up anywhere near the original. And some lines just make you cringe and say, "Damn." I can try all I want to defend the dub, but sometimes, it's impossible to defend some of these things. I assume that's how all dub fans feel? When they watch something like, "Sir Isaac Newton wouldn't live to tell about it if one of those hit him." Or the whole Humphrey Bogart impersonation/actual MENTION of the name between Gohan and Kuririn. I mean some things you just close your eyes and shake your head for.
