Transfering the DBZ Playdia games to DVD (Video Clips!)

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

THAT I have a problem with. They were recently released on the DVD sets in Japan, and while they're "out of print", it's just waaaaaaaay too recent of an item. Plus, we have no idea what their true plans are for things like that and the DBZ TV specials for individual DVD releases.

You can't just go passing things out willy-nilly. I'm barely allowing the discussion on the PlayDia game compilation, and only because they're so ridiculously old, and the quality just can't compare to a true DVD release.

So we just as easily could never have them come out on an official US release, and we wouldn't be able to see them unless we bought the fucking dragonbox. That seems like a lot of money to spend when you only want one thing. But then again its your rules.

I understand. I really don't see what the problem is, other than the fact that they are bootlegs, but it's your forum and your rules. And I will obey them. I just had to ask since it seems like almost every member here would like to see them so badly (I was one of them once ). And it wouldn't be any problem for me to make multiple copies either. I'll just leave it at that.

If you do change your mind, please PM me. :)

Say there's this really awesome car that only came out in Japan. It's got this amazing 8-track/tape/CD/MP3 player built-in. I really want that player, but I don't want to spend the money on the car. That doesn't mean I can just go steal it. And distribute it to everyone.

Again, we don't know what the future plans are going to be for an individual disc release of the two DBZ TV specials and the PlayDia footage. For all we know, they'll come out after the series is complete.

Don't whine.

Personally the only reason i'm interested in it , is because i've never seen it . It really is'nt an OVA. It's just some cutscenes from a video game edited together. I really don't understand why some people are so excited to see it. :?

So my other question is why is it ok to show the japanese voice opening for video games? I mean if we wanted to see it we should go out and buy the game. Am I correct?

That's what's called 'fair use'. It's fine to show a bit of a copyrighted piece, but a reproduction of the whole thing is what is disallowed (in many countries, and specifically this forum).

More or less. My train of thought (which has also been true with any music I've put up) is that I'm sharing a severely down-graded (in terms of quality) version. If you want it at better quality, you HAVE to purchase it, since you're not getting it out of me.

Please forgive me if this has already been posted.

Interesting little tidbit, I would like to share with everyone. I was going to start a new thread, but it may apply here.

I recently did a search on Youtube for "DBZ Lost Movie - Playlist". I found it, but when I went to view it, I received the following message.

"This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner FUNimation Entertainment because its content was used without permission"

I recalled Vegetto EX's earlier posts on bootlegging, copying material that has not been released in the states, etc.

If the above info is indeed accurate (as in the case with "Lazy Sunday" when Y.T. first started), it seems Funi may have plans for this footage after all.

Maybe, but probably not. Funimation doesn't need to have liscensed, or be in the process of, or even planning to liscense that particular footage to cease & decist anyone posting it. The same way they attacked "full episode and movie" sites, long before they got around to the later parts of the series.

However, they haven't done this for movies 1-12 (which is very odd).

Also, wouldn't Bandai have more say on this since they were behind the original release?

Wow, I havent been able to check up here latelly but this topic seems to be going sideways. If Funimation ever decides to release the playdia games I would stop this project right away...why would I continue? If there was to be a "real" release of this I would suppose it would have better quality and an actual production value. Anyway's the project is still going...it's slow right now because I started a new job that takes up most of my time, but hopefully I will have a new release soon.

Just keep us updated capsuleman. I'm sure the hard work will pay off. :)

Maybe one of the FUNimation staff members has been watching this forum all along, and might be working on the same project as we speak. You never know! :P

How's this project going capsuleman?

We have a better chance of Bandai releasing this game on the PS2 or XBox before we see a DVD version. I myself would rather see a PS2 port, with English subtitles, or even an English dubbed version.

How would that even work? Would they release the Playdia titles here? Or would it just be an interactive dvd for us. I've played/seen those titles before and the only reason people give it a lot of hype because its not a common site much like dbz:legends.

I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

I doubt it and it's highly unlikely that Funimation would releace Playdia titles in America.
