This Roshi being immortal buisness
Is this a rumor that he was immortal? He was clearly killed by Piccolo in Dragonball. Is there any truth to this?

There's something durring the 22nd or 23rd budokai about 'eternal youth/life' potion. Can't remember, exactly.Sun_Wukong wrote:Is this a rumor that he was immortal? He was clearly killed by Piccolo in Dragonball. Is there any truth to this?

Apparently he can't die naturally for some reason (I'm not even gonna try), but can still very much be killed.
Someone else'll have to delve into the details...

Ok, in the manga before Muten-Roshi was about to fight Piccolo Daimao, he knocks out Tenshinhan, then afterwards he mentioned that he "lied about the "Elixir of Immortality", but that's about it. So I think he never drank it to begin with.

In volume 2 of the Tankoubon ( I think?) the turtle states that Master Roushi drank some elixir of eternal life so yes, he can in fact never die from old age which would explain how he's 300 years old. Apparently he can be killed though. People always get mixed up because he tried to summon the immortal phoenix for Gokuh as a reward for helping the turtle earlier.

He didn't make a wish using the Dragonball's!
He didn't even know he had a ''Dragonball'' at the beginning of Dragonball , when he had one around his neck that washed up on his Island.
At points in the series, Turtle hints at Kamesennin drinking some sort of immortality elixir at one point of his life. While this doesn't mean he can never die (he's died a couple times himself) it does mean that he will never die of old age.

I don't know how much credit you can put into Roshi's claim of immortality; even the supposed phoenix in the beginning of the series was a gag, an immortal bird who died of food poisoning.
I think by the time the King Piccolo saga rolled around, Toriyama changed gears a little bit and made the story line more serious, and the first bit of detail that needed to be retconned was his immortality. So Toriyama explains it away by having Roshi go back on what he said earlier, there by nullifying it.
Besides, lots of mythical characters in DragonBall had exceptionally long life spans. Korin, Mr. Popo, Baba, etc. Roshi doesn't exactly need an explination why he's lived so long.

I suppose that he's immortal in a sense that he can't die of age, but of diseases and force.
I always believed it was that way, that's how I understood it.
I think that when Kame-Sennin told Tenshinhan that he wasn't immortal, he meant that he wasn't immortal in the sense of invurneable, which he had made Tenshinhan believe (I mean, Tenshinhan only knew that Kame-Sennin was immortal, not in which way).
That's my explanation =).

That's about it. Roshi only said to Tenshinhan that he drank the Elixir, so the statement that he "lied about the Elixir" would only make sense in that context if he never drank it. I've always took his 300+ age to be just one of the typical weirdness of the series.

Yeah he tells Tenshinhan that he drank the Elixir before he knocks him unconsience, then after he mentions he lied about the Elixir.Domon wrote:Sebastian (SB) wrote:Ok, in the manga before Muten-Roshi was about to fight Piccolo Daimao, he knocks out Tenshinhan, then afterwards he mentioned that he "lied about the "Elixir of Immortality", but that's about it. Oh, I forgot him telling he drank of that water. Well, obviously that was a lie.
There are two possibilities: He found the bird of immortality (that only prevented dying of age) and shared it with the people he knew, like his sister, Tsufuru-Sennin and his brother (that he maybe was a friend with back then). That or it's a family ability, but that wouldn't explain Tsufuru-Sennin growing as old as he did.
Correct me if I'm wrong =).

I'm pretty sure he has eternal life (as in he lives forever) but he can be killed. In the manga he's upset that the turtle disapproves of him seeing Bulma's breasts and he says "Is it so terrible to grant a dying old man his last wish?" and the Turtle replies "You mean the old man who drank from the immortality elixir?"
So he can be killed, but not from natural causes.

The thing I want to know about Roshi being immortal is that if he really is how come Pan is the only survivor of the group at the end of GT?

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Where is this stated? I thought that he just didn't show up at the tournament.Mr.Piccolo wrote:The thing I want to know about Roshi being immortal is that if he really is how come Pan is the only survivor of the group at the end of GT?
I think that Master Roshi just don't die of age. After a certain point he stops aging (looking even younger in the latter part of the series, strangely). But I assume that he got immortal after reaching the appearance of the age that he has now or something.

Well, I was thinking of the GT TV special at the time and supposedly Pan is the last of the group to be around. I'm not sure if they mean of the saiyans that fought at that time or the whole dragon team or whatever they call themselves.Godo wrote:Where is this stated? I'm pretty sure he still was alive by then if he didn't get killed earlier. He just didn't have reason to show up anymore since Pan didn't have much contact with him and he didn't know Goku Jr at all.Mr.Piccolo wrote:The thing I want to know about Roshi being immortal is that if he really is how come Pan is the only survivor of the group at the end of GT?
The other saiyans died of age (not Goku, appareantly) as did the humans. I believe Piccolo, Dende and Popo still were alive since namekians live for something about 300 years or more.
As far as I know, Kame-Sennin grew away as a part of the group at the beginning of GT. We just don't see him in the adventures anymore, which means he's out of the adventure gang, which I think is what they mean by Pan being the last one left of the old group.
