Because the DVD has a superior product? Seriously, anything you downloaded is going to blow in comparison to the DVD version, especially when it comes to subtitles.KinoFourpaws wrote:Well, yeah, but why pay for another copy of the Japanese version if I already have one? I mostly watch the DVDs to see what the dubs are like, anyway.

<Kaboom> I'm just glad that he now sounds more like Invader Zim than Rita Repulsa
<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

Anyone who's downloaded and viewed this movie for free should feel obligated to buy the English release, for both the video quality (not the best, but better than something off Kazaa or Limewire) and Daimao's excellent subtitle work.
I vowed to buy this movie ever since the day I DL'd it and watched it on my brothers computer years ago. There is a legal release, thus NO excuse to hold on to mediocre fansubs. Shame upon those who do.

No. This time Menza composed only the ending (the same Menza ending as always). I can't remember the name of the BGM composer, although I get my DVD yesterday. ^.-"Snail wrote:Is the bgm for the Funimation dub composed by that Mark Menza guy? Lol, his music is LAUGHABLE! LAUGHAABLE!! He ruined the dub the moment he stepped up to attempt his duty.

So I recieved my copy of the movie a few days back (prior to the release, lol.) And I figure it's as good a time as any to actually comment.
I liked the presentation of this film; the casing and such is very nice in quality compared to past movie releases (though, if you look closely outside of the disc itself, it's a bit of a Fullmetal Alchemist packaging rip-off.) As far as the dub is concerned, I thought it was average, and ironicly I found some stuff that actually irked me as far as voices and such go.
The big thing that irked me was Tapion's voice. Sounds to me like they brought in Justin Cook for the job, and that he was having trouble finding a good tone to suit the characters emotions.
In reality it's a fellow named Jason Liebrecht, who I am reasonably familiar with (mostly) from GetBacker's as Ban Midou, and (limitedly) from Crayon Shin-chan, as Principal Ench. Among other work. Sad, though; there were quite a few moments when Liebrecht sounded perfect, and then others where he just sounded too gruff for the moment.
Even with those problems I am still happy I bought it, and from my point of view it isn't a terrible job. It isn't perfect, and it does have a few wiggy bits. But not terrible.

I love his performance as Ban Mido, which may just be the one reason I bother watching the dub. Although, I don't imagine he would line up too well for Tapion...oh well, still like the VA.lost in thought wrote:In reality it's a fellow named Jason Liebrecht, who I am reasonably familiar with (mostly) from GetBacker's as Ban Midou, and (limitedly) from Crayon Shin-chan, as Principal Ench. I'm buying the DVD tomorrow.

Well, actually, for a downloaded video, the picture quality of the version I've got is quite good. The subtitles aren't that bad, either; it's in proper English and I can understand what's going on pretty well. The only complaint I have about it is that it cuts off during the credits, but that's really not a big thing for me.Xyex wrote:Because the DVD has a superior product? I dunno; I'll look at some of the clips people've probably put up for the movie by now on YouTube before I make a decision to buy it. Not enough to spoil the dub or anything, but enough to judge just how good it is.
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

Well, fine, I'll see if I can't go buy it. Don't want people getting on my back about this... sorry I mentioned it in the first place.lost in thought wrote:For future reference, just because you have a good download of the movie doesn't mean you shouldn't go out and buy a copy of it since it's released by a local company. In fact, it pretty much means you're obligated, since you're stealing from Toei, and Funimation respectively in this case.
Really, though, from what I hear of the dub, it makes me wonder if it's worth supporting FUNimation with this purchase. I mean, hell, the Japanese version is awesome, but I'm reluctant to buy the FUNi DVD even if just for that, mostly because in a way I feel I'm supporting FUNi's work with the dubs, like I'm saying, "HEY! I love what you're doing to the series! Keep up the work!" when there are a few things I really WOULDN'T like them to continue, like replacing the music and such. I really don't mind FUNi as a whole, truthfully, but there are certain productions I'm not gonna want to get because of the way they handle them.
Now, if I can find the official Japanese release for purchase somewhere, I'll buy the thing in a heartbeat. Hopefully it's got subtitles. ^^;
EDIT: Can somebody please tell me whether these are officially-licensed versions of the movies? o__O; ----> http://cgi.ebay.com/DRAGON-BALL-Z-DVDS- ... dZViewItem

I had an old DVD copy of DBZ Movie 13, and their's nothing illigal about it here becuase DBZ isn't licenced in my country... though I'm sad it never was properly licencedlost in thought wrote:For future reference, just because you have a good download of the movie doesn't mean you shouldn't go out and buy a copy of it since it's released by a local company. Aww, damnit... *snaps her fingers in frustration* Well, if I have to swallow my pride and get the FUNi version, I guess I'll live...The Lecherous Muten Roshi wrote:Sorry. Don't think they are. Pretty sure they've been posted before.

And, for future reference, just because it's not available in your area doesn't mean it's legal to download them. But, sometimes it's legal to download it, even if it is available. But I don't think this is the place for legal discussions about file-sharing.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:Aren't you in the UK? Well technically you don't have to worry about that since with this movie, Funimation has just about dubbed everything Dragon Ball related. I think all that's really left (if not done already) is a re-dub of Dragon Ball movie 1. I don't think we'll see it anytime soon since Funimation doesn't own the distributing rights to it.KinoFourpaws wrote:Really, though, from what I hear of the dub, it makes me wonder if it's worth supporting FUNimation with this purchase.
